Do you have a RESOLVER_TRACE environment variable set, or maybe a
SYSTCPT DD allocated?
Here's an info apar that describes how to turn on resolver traces:

We run CICS TS ADABAS and saw some performance issues with CICS
transactions in z/OS V1R7 although not very bad. When we brought up z/OS
V1R8 we are seeing high level of delays in CICS transactions when they
are going to redispatch queue. Talking to IBM lab folks they are
telling us it is not a z/OS V1R8 problem but maybe a CICS performance
problem. But then the CICS people say the transactions are not being
dispatched quick enough off the redispatch queue. I think this has been
shuffled over to the WLM folks.

Like to know if anyone else is encountering CICS performance problems
where it seems the CPU is running 100%, transactions start queueing up,
repsonse gets slow, CPU drops down to 50-60%, redispatch queue gets
bigger and then all them transactions come out at once and FLY through
the system.
Is this happening to you or has it happened lately.

thanks Jim

Re: COBOL and Java interoperabitiliy

2007-01-22 Thread Shmuel Koller
One key issue is Identity Flow - once user authenticated on Linux side -
how can Identity pass across as already verified to the z/OS side in
order to be used in authorizations?

Async media like MQ/JMS may not pass Identity transparently - better a
synchronous solution.

CTG, WebSeal , Federated Identity) are some products in the space of
Identity Flow.

Closely related - there is a redbook on using RACF via an LDAP client on
z/Linux - if need to extend RACF to Linux side.

I know that the current Enterprise COBOL language is documented to be
able to invoke Java class methods and vice versa. But I'm curious if
anybody out there has actually done anything like this? How difficult is
it? Will the Java method be zAAP eligible?

Reason: Current management has decided to do a lot of stuff in Java on
RedHat Linux. I think it would be interesting to see if we could create
some glue on z/OS so that Java on Linux could use JMS to talk to Java
on z/OS, which would then use some legacy COBOL I/O routines or business
logic. Just some blue sky thinking on my part at this point due to my
ignorance of how difficult this would be. Especially given that most
COBOL programmers are still a bit reactionary towards doing things
differently.

John,

not sure for CICS but jar files works fine under z/OS.
I wrote some Java code under Windows and upload (ftp) them binary to
z/OS and execute them without modifications and vice versa.

Be aware
1. The mainfest file must be ASCII regardless the development plattform
(z/OS!!) 2. JDK 1.4.2 SR6 seems to have a problem with the etc/profile
classpath settings. As a workaround you could add the classpath into
your mainfest file (layout is a bit different).

We had problems to email jar files but don't know the reason. Perhaps
it's because of Mail-Setup. Haven't spend to much time to investigate.

able to access the appropriate jar files. I am running on a Windows
XP Pro system. There is no other option. I do not have an NFS client,
so I cannot NFS mount the z/OS UNIX subdirectories which contain the
jar

This is more curiousity than anything else. The probability of this

uses for specialized applications. Too bad we're de-emphasizing the z

Re: CICS TS v3.1 and ICSF

The direction is to define the program as OPENAPI which will cause CICS v3.1
to drive it under an OPEN TCB where you are allowed the MVS freedom of
API, including ICSF.

The problem is that API cannot be APF authorized - so you may end-up issuing
a SVC from the OPENAPI program to get out of CICS - to APF authorized code.

From memory I do not recall if resorting to ICSF software computations

and/or hardware needs to be APF authorized.

Given that Jay has made presentations at SHARE on Hercules and that this

that IBM is either unaware of the Hercules effort or that feels that Jay
is acting in a manner that requires legal action. SHARE probably has at
least one IBM lawyer attending it.

In addition, Hercules could be used for developing Linux to take
advantage of the latest and greatest hardware. If Jay's effort were
only discussed on hacker forums I might share your concern but with it
being openly discussed both here and at SHARE, no one can claim that it
has been hidden from IBM. I am certain that at least one person from
IBM has read Jay's FAQ and would not be surprised to find out that their
legal department had carefully reviewed it or made a conscious decision
to ignore Hercules. In short, at this stage of the game you may be
technically right but I consider the issue one which IBM corporate has
made a decision of not interfering with the effort. Silence in this case

Do have a look at the Asset Transformation Workbench from IBM.

(I admit, personally, that I'm a tad sceptical about how an automated
tool can help improve coding standards; I'm just following up on a
request).

Until very recently, I was too, but what I have seen from ATW convinces
me that it has become possible.

Cheers,

Jantje.

Re: SOAP on z/OS?

2005-08-02 Thread Shmuel Koller

1) If you have CICS - it is a SOAP server.
There are escapes from CICS to APF authorized code (RACF macros).

2) If open source Java SOAP server like Axis can run z/OS JVM (not
ure) -

z/OS JVM comes with some Security Server Java classes that bridge to
underlying RACF macros.

3) You can consider a broader scope of Identity Management suite (aka RACF
front end) - these days they come with SOAP integration (named SPML,
WS-Provisioning)

4) As posted recently in RACF-L, you can front end RACF with an LDAP client
on

Win/Unix/Linux box - box where you host the SOAP server (there are many,
Perl, C, Java, open source). I mean SOAP server accepts requests and gets
via LDAP client to RACF.

TPNS and CTG

2005-07-14 Thread Shmuel Koller

We are based on following end-user scenario:
Java CICS Client, ECI via outboard CTG/Windows to CICS

Is anyone using TPNS in similar environment ?
If so is there anything in TPNS that recognizes ECI protocol beyond just
handling TCP/IP ?

Is there anyone using TPNS upfront CTG (in lieu of CICS client) ?
