I've been with IBM for 43+ years (plus a couple of summers in college) and I've enjoyed my career immensely. I've especially enjoyed being able to help people use the DFSORT/ICETOOL functions I developed, over many years, in new and interesting ways. Once I retire, I won't be posting solutions any more since I won't have access to a mainframe to test them, and I don't like posting untested solutions. I may lurk a bit or I may not. I'm looking forward to retirement, but I'll also miss this list. I'm happy to say that others on the DFSORT Team will continue to contribute. Re: Sclm
Hi Scott, We converted from CA Endevor to SCLM back in July 2011. After the initial learning, about a month or two, we have not seen any problems. If this is your first source control system there will be a large learning curve. However, in the end you will have less errors more free time to be more productive. To your question are there any got Chas - tons. I would suggest that you contract with IBM or an OEM vendor to help set up you initial system. They will help you over the bumps. Good luck. Where what to do next - Load modules missing from PDS
G'day, We have had a mystery here. On Wednesday last week all programs were in the PDS. On Thursday there were 7 programs missing. The 7 programs belong to the same development group, and no other group has any thing missing. Compress is done once a month when IMS is down, if not IMS regions abend all over the place with programs not found, this has not happened. We are an Endevor shop and Endevor and a very small number of people have access other then read to the data sets. Endevor shows no deletes, The source is showing that the modules have not been generated since 2008 2009. SMF shows no access of update except for Endevor. RACF log shows the same as SMF. I'm at a lost as to where to go next. All help is greatly appreciate. RACF - Any way to find out before hand what the user's access is to a file
G'day, I have been asked if there is away for the user to find out what access they have to a data set before they attempt to update or read it. Re: RACF - Any way to find out before hand what the user's access is to a file
Thank you for you fast response. To answer the why needed question: On occasion security has stated that access has been given only later to find out that the incorrect access was granted or not granted at all. Causing jobs to fail and time to be lost, therefore the user wants away to check security. One of the problems of outsourcing. Re: Any Utilities to Archive Members of a PDS/PDSE - Load Librari es, Not Source
We are currently running CA-Endevor. Management does not feel that it gives them the protection that they are looking for. They are looking for an additional product that would allow them to archive the load modules before any update is made. They would like a product that would copy (archive the current load module before Endevor renames it. They would like the product to keep track of the modules so that they can go back to a previous version without having Endevor involved. Re: Degraded I/O performance in 1.10?
Hi David, Look into increasing the buffers VSAM index. Some catalog changes have occurred that may be the cause of your slow response. Also SMF and Logrec buffering. Regards, Herman Stocker --- snip--- All, I realize this is a really open ended question. We completed our 1.8 to 1.10 upgrade in June, with no known problems. Everything seems to be running fine. However, I have various people(mostly developers) occasionally complaining that they think the system is slower since the upgrade. Of course, the upgrade gets blamed for everything. By slower, the are referring to their batch jobs, those that do a lot of I/O. Interestingly, several people, who do not work in the same area(and most likely do not talk to each other), asked if file buffering has changed somehow with the upgrade. I tell them, not that I am aware of, and ask them for specifics to research, and in most cases I compare the jobs running before and after the upgrade, and the EXCPs all seem to be inline. So, all I can say is that there is this gut feeling that something isn't quite right, but can't put a finger on it. This was corrected by deleting the imssb directory in lower case and defining it in upper case - IMSSB. How the job will run to the end of the SAS step and gets the error: ICH408I USER(IMSSB ) GROUP(@UNIXAPP) NAME(BARKEY, STEVE ) 330 /u/IMSSB CL(DIRSRCH ) FID(01E3E2D6D4F0F90016270003) INSUFFICIENT AUTHORITY TO CHDIR ACCESS INTENT(--X) ACCESS ALLOWED(OTHER ---) EFFECTIVE UID(007096) EFFECTIVE GID(007000) Note that the /u/IMSSB/ is in upper case this was required to allow SAS to start executing. At the time of the error SAS has created the report and the CC is 0 for the step. Our security people have not been able to come up with any reason for this error therefore, they can not correct it. Alternatively, I would hope that the SAS folks could help you. But in a nutshell, either /, /u, or /u/IMSBB has the wrong permissions or the wrong ownership (probably permissions). UNIX users need eXecute authority to traverse directories, and your user is neither the owner of the directory in question, nor is any of his groups the owning group for the directory in question, and so he is using the permissions for other (sort of like UACC in RACF profiles). You need to find that directory, and either change its ownership, or change its permission bits to grant eXecute to other, or connect the user to the right group that owns the directory, or create an ACL (access list) on that directory that grants the user or one of his groups eXecute acess. The UNIX ls command can tell you the permissions of each of those directories. Or there's an AUDITID tool on the UNIX Tools and Toys web page that can perhaps tell you directly based on that FID value. I would guess it's the IMSBB directory that's setup incorrectly, though. You probably want it to have permissions 755 (Read/Write/eXecute for owner, R-X for owning group, R-X for other), which the UNIX chmod command can set for you. For any extended discussion of how this all works (UNIX and file security not SAS specifically), the MVS-OE mailing list is probably a better place. -- Walt Farrell, CISSP IBM STSM, z/OS Security Design -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@bama.ua.edu with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html - -- The sender believes that this E-mail and any attachments were free of any virus, worm, Trojan horse, and/or malicious code when sent. No Source for load modules not linkedited since 1980-90's
We have a large number of modules that have link dates in the 80's and 90's (still running, can that be done on windows and Unix platform?). We want to reverse the modules to be able to go to LE and maybe even make changes. Does any one know of any vendors and/or products on the market that can be used to reverse engineer these modules - in COBOL. I have suggested the disassembler but the development people were not happy with the output, Cobol people do not like assembler, go figure:-) they are not assembler programmers and the disassembled code was unreadable to them. I had a PDS get reblocked a few weeks ago and that essentially corrupted the PDS. If you have some members corrupted and some not, this might be the same issue. IEBCOPY it to a NEW PDS using DCB parameters with larger block sizes on both input and output and see if you recover the bad ones. Does any have a program that can delete non-standard member names from a PDS
Hi, We have an Endevor controlled PDS that I copied old backup members into from an old version of Endevor. Since the members are not know by Endevor anymore they will not be deleted. All the members begin with a X'FE' as it's first character. Would anyone have a utility that can be given a hex member name to delete? Or any ideas as to how to delete these unwanted members? Thank you. Re: SDSF Question - Selection of members to be displayed in the d iffe rent panels
Thanks to all who responded. The answer that solved my problem was PREFIX=** this gave me the selection of jobs by the OWNER that I want to see. The Select command I had not seen before. This look like it will be a winner saving me time and energy. Thank you Skip. Thank you all. SDSF Question - Selection of members to be displayed in the diffe rent panels
HI, In SDSF I have set as: PREFIX=* DEST=(ALL) OWNER=HERMAN SORT=End-Date//D End-Time//D SYSNAME= I get a list of job owned by HERMAN in the ST display. How I want to see what is in the hold queue so I go to the H display panel; however, not all the jobs are displayed, ( only the jobs with a prefix of HERMAN are displayed ). If I change the set the prefix to a job name and level the owner the display is empty. Not until I have set the owner to blank are any of the jobs displayed. This also occurs in the output display O Can any one point me to the reason for this behavior? Thank you. Cobol II and COMP5
Hi, I have been asked to check around and see if there is any known patch/subroutine/exit that will allow a cobol 2 compiled program to use a comp5 field. This can be either free or a $ item. They are looking at a short time work around that they can use until we get to LE and E/Cobol. Thank you for your assistance.
