Yes. It was all last minute, but I appreciated the invite from Sam to

RIP snubbing

2009-08-28 Thread David Andrews
I was not snubbed by anyone! I found everyone to be friendly and
 inclusive.

This old joke once had a point, but now it simply is old and not very
funny. Many years ago my dad would berate us for days for a small
infraction of the rules, beating the proverbial dead horse. I hated it
then, and I hate it now. Can't we get past this, please?

2009-08-28 Thread Elardus Engelbrecht
I was not snubbed by anyone! I found everyone to be friendly and inclusive.

What is 'snubbing'? Or rather what is 'snubbing at SHARE'?

Free Online Dictionary said:

1. To ignore or behave coldly toward; slight. To treat, or speak to, in a
cold,
scornful way.
3. Verb: to insult (someone) deliberately
4. Noun: a deliberately insulting act or remark

Merriam-Webster: 'to treat with contempt or neglect'

This old joke once had a point, but now it simply is old and not very funny.

True! What is so funny about being insulted/ignored?

I'm guilty first mention this time and I'm unrepentant.

I said I was not going to be at SHARE and asked someone to snub
people for me. Translation: I wish I were attending but I'm not.
Greet people for me.

Being a very strong SHARE advocate / bigot, I (and many others)
happily took the term snub as a name for typical interactions at
SHARE (which are very far removed from a snub).

An in-joke that is not very in and not much of a joke but pretty
innocuous as far as I'm concerned, and significant enough to be
added to the Devil's IT Dictionary as mentioned in this thread.

Re: RIP snubbing

2009-08-28 Thread Eric Bielefeld
Just a general comment on telling people to stop a thread. I agree this
thread should be stopped, and if Darren were monitoring the list like he
used to, I'm sure he would have piped up by now or disabled someones ID.
Many many threads in the past where people complain just seem to start new
threads, like this one. My advice, don't say anything. Threads like this
one might die faster that way.

And yes, I'm guilty of extending this thread too.

Oh well - Share is done and the snubbing will have to be continued again in
6 months! Maybe by then I will have a job and be able to come.
