Re: Extra! and FTP

2008-04-26 Thread Knutson, Sam
The free Bluezone FTP is the best FTP client I have used for working
with z/OS. This now includes Secure FTP in the free download.

I guess I'll have to try it sometime. I still like Filezilla (which
also has a free server and supports z/OS System SSL) Just google
filezilla for a link.

Re: Extra! and FTP

2008-04-25 Thread Dave Salt
Just as a completely different alternative, have you considered using the ISPF
Workstation Agent (WSA) for file transfers? I've used IND$FILE and I've used
FTP, and I *much* prefer WSA. It's extremely easy to install and use, and has
no dependencies whatsoever on the type of emulator you're using. For example,
if you switch from using Extra to Vista or some other product, it wouldn't
affect your file transfer procedures in any way.

Cross posting to IBM MAIN and TCP groups.

I am trying to resolve an issue with EXTRA! when it is setup for FTP rather
 than IND$FILE.

I use IND$FILE and it works great.

When I setup my session for FTP the process hangs when I select Settings (to
choose how the file is transferred).

I looked at the settings panel and I have no SCHEME as a default. DOes anyone
know how the default SCHEME is put into EXTRA!

I am using EXTRA! 6.5 SP2 which I believe is really OLD.

 Any guidance is appreciated.

Don't feel bad, I'm still using 6.4

In the software installation folder (mine is Attachmate) is a subfolder
Schemes

I see .edt .exs and .eis files that appear to relate to FTP or IND$FILE

If you don't have them you should be able to create them through
Options-File Transfer-Local Settings

I do not know if there is a delivered default

I have tried that. The problem is when I select SETTINGS (either throught the
TRANSFER FILE screen or through preferences) the entire Extra! session hangs.

When I look at settings there are absolutley no SCHEME present (not even
default ones).

I have used WS support through ISPF. It works very well. However, my user is
being setup with EXTRA and FTP.
