As Greg pointed, there is no need to write RECORDS(X). If you use the
XREPTEXT DD, the command RPTEXT create only extended extract records

Re: (External):Re: OMVS mount failure

2015-11-03 Thread J O Skip Robinson
Too much time on my hands. BPMTEXT EF096058 :

Description: HFS-compat mount, - error attaching aggregate or was found not to
be HFS-compat.

Action: Ensure that the HFS compatibility mode aggregate that is being MOUNTed
has a single read-write file system and the file system name is the same as
the aggregate name (that is, the VSAM Linear Data Set name). This can also
mean that you attempted to move ownership of a zFS sysplex-aware read-write
file system to a system that does not support zFS sysplex-aware (that is,
either the target system is prior to z/OS V1R11 or it is z/OS V1R11 but is
running sysplex=off). This is not allowed. Otherwise, contact the service
representative. A mount of a zFS file system that fails with return code 138
(ENXIO) and reason code EF096058 can indicate that the file system is already
mounted on another system that is not in the same sysplex but is sharing DASD
accessibility. zFS prevents data corruption by not allowing a zFS file system
to be mounted read-write on two systems that are not in a shared file system
environment. In this case, verify that the file system is not already mounted
read-write on another system. zFS prevents a system from writing to a zFS
aggregate that is mounted read-write on another system.

Re: DFSMShsm Threshold Message Not Being Displayed

2015-11-03 Thread George Rodriguez
In the parmlib member ARCCMD00 there's a SETSYS that says:

SETSYS /* Do not print space usage messages.
MONITOR(NOSPACE /* Issue warning messages when:
  BCDS(85 1)/* BCDS is 85% full,
  MCDS(92 1)/* MCDS is   92% full,   <===<<
When threshold reaches 92% I should get a message.
  OCDS(80 1)/* OCDS is 80% full,
   JOURNAL(80 1)) /* Journal is80% full.

Now I only get the message that says it's full...

Re: OMVS mount failure

2015-11-03 Thread Richards, Robert B.
I would suggest that you add the following to a SITE command table:

BPXMTEXT 2 SELECT CMD(BPXMTEXT )

Then you can BP EF096058 from anywhere. Change the 2 to a higher number if you
would have a conflict with using BP as a command.

Or type out the whole thing as BPXMTEXT EF096058. The beauty is being able to
invoke it from anywhere.

Bill,

Apologies for not responding sooner but I did not notice this email to the IBM
list until this morning. The messages you are referring to are written through
the SYSPRINT DD statement. Generally there is a "//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*"
statement in the JES2Mail JCL. You can either remove this statement or dummy
it out and that should suppress these messages. The SYSPRINT messages are
intended to be a summary of the activity that is reported in more detail in the
LOGFILE sysout.

If need any further information on this, or any other JES2Mail matter, you can
email us directly at supp...@casisoft.com.

Subject: JES2MAIL Log Output to Two SDSF Output Groups - How to Disable One

We have several jobs that use JES2MAIL to email reports to various users.
The JES2 output (in SDSF) from the step creates two entries and I'm hoping to
find a means to disable one of them.
The two entries are: (example SDSF entries further below)

1. The main SYSOUT from the job that includes the JES2MAIL trace log

2. And a second log that seems to contain all the "Non-ConMsg:" lines
found in the main trace log
Is there a means to disable the 2nd entry JES entry?
Why I find this strange as there is not a DD associated to it coded in the JCL
to control it.

To attempt to show what I mean, as a test for the below example I ran JCL with
just the JES2MAIL step.
The two entries were created below within SDSF. Note: the entries are
truncated but only the TOTAL-REC and O-GRP-NM are different between the two.

NP JOBNAME JOBID CRDATEC DESTNAME TOTAL-REC O-GRP-NM

Re: DFSMShsm Threshold Message Not Being Displayed

2015-11-03 Thread George Rodriguez
I stand corrected... Netview is the product that suppresses the messages...
I've already checked MPFLST00 in SYS1.PARMLIB. Yes I have DFSMShsm exits:

SETSYS /* Activate tape volume exit to
  EXITON(ARCTVEXT) /* tape management system.

SETSYS /* Activate ABARS ML2 exclude exit
  EXITON(ARCM2EXT) /*

But I think those are standard...

Just one main SYSLOG, all messages go there...

Re: DFSMShsm Threshold Message Not Being Displayed

2015-11-03 Thread Lizette Koehler
So as a test

Set your MCDS extremely low so it triggers the message and watch syslog when
that is done.
Either you will see the message or not.

If not, then something is suppressing it.

You may need to set a SLIP MSG function and see if it in the system. Or turn
off all MESSAGE Automation and repeat the test.

Otherwise, open an SR with IBM and have them help you diagnose this issue.

Re: DFSMShsm Threshold Message Not Being Displayed

2015-11-03 Thread Lizette Koehler
There is nothing native to z/OS other than MPF list that I know of that will
suppress messages.

Something has changed in your environment.

If you have displayed the MPF list and did not find any ARC messages in the list
If you have tried the quick test I suggested and did not see the message
displayed
If you do not have any Automation tools like OPS/MVS, AFOPER, Mainview, Tivoli,
etc...
If you only found the really old PTF, then

The next step is probably to contact IBM and have them help you find the
culprit.

IBM buys cloud brokerage software firm Gravitant

IBM on Tuesday said it has acquired Gravitant, an Austin, Texas-based developer
of hybrid cloud brokerage software. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
IBM plans to integrate Gravitant's software capabilities into the IBM Global
Technology Services unit, in an effort to boost its hybrid cloud and enterprise
services.
Gravitant's technology allows businesses to plan, buy and manage -- or "broker"
-- software and computing services from multiple suppliers across hybrid clouds.
The main appeal with this type of software and service brokering is that it
allows mixed environments of private and public clouds to be integrated and
digitally managed as one.

s013-68 on JES2 EVENTLOG?

2015-11-03 Thread Paul Gilmartin
We just got our z/OS 2.2 system up. So I regression tested an EXEC
that unloads the spool files of a job to UNIX files.

It uses IEBGENER to copy each DDNAME allocated by SDSF to a UNIX file.
It specifies no DCB attributes on SYSUT2, leaving it to IEBGENER to copy
to SYSUT2 those supplied by SDSF.

I see a spool file I've never seen before: stepname JES2, ddname EVENTLOG,
which fails with:

   7 8 EVENTLOG: RECFM=U LRECL=32760 CHARS=,,,
 IEC141I 013-68,IFG0196L,user,$STCTSO1,SYS00196
 IEA995I SYMPTOM DUMP OUTPUT
 SYSTEM COMPLETION CODE=013 REASON CODE=0068
  TIME=14.50.12  SEQ=00083  CPU=  ASID=0063
PSW AT TIME OF ERROR 075C1000 80A26336 ILC 2 INTC 0D
NO ACTIVE MODULE FOUND
NAME=UNKNOWN
DATA AT PSW 00A26330 - 4100302C 0A0D010D A7E5014B

SDSF "SE" opens it OK with profile:
 =PROF> ISFEDIT (VARIABLE - 32760)RECOVERY ONNUMBER OFF

Why is this breaking IEBGENER? (I don't know how to extract BLKSIZE from SDSF.)

Might it be because IEBGENER might be DCBE-ignorant?

Re: s013-68 on JES2 EVENTLOG?

2015-11-03 Thread Anthony Thompson
I'm wondering if you can use PARM='SDB=INPUT' (or YES) to get IEBGENER to copy
EVENTLOG?

I'd try to test this myself on our sandbox z/OS 2.2 system but we're not
generating EVENTLOG datasets, even though JES2 checkpoint is at Z22 level and
JOBDEF SUP_EVENTLOG_SMF is set to NO. Scratching my head there.

Oh, and the SDSF manual doesn't list any field in the JDS (Job Data Set) panel
that provides block-size information, only RECFM and LRECL, so I don't think
you can get that.

Ant.

Re: s013-68 on JES2 EVENTLOG?

2015-11-03 Thread Lizette Koehler
I am not sure how your EXEC worked, so I went to the manuals for information on
EVENTLOG:

Programs can use Spool Data Set Browse (SDSB) to allocate SPOOL data sets. The
data set being requested is specified by passing the JES data set name along
with a SPOOL browse token to MVS™ dynamic allocation. When the data set is
allocated, the data set can be read using one of two methods:

Using the compatibility interface (DCB, GET).
Using the ACB/RPL interface.

You use the compatibility interface when synchronous sequential access is
required. You use the ACB/RPL interface when random access to the spool file is
required, or when asynchronous processing is required.

The EVENTLOG data set is allocated automatically for every batch job, started
task, and TSO user. It contains machine readable records and is intended to be
processed by applications. The data set is not considered to be SYSOUT so it
cannot be accessed by SAPI/PSO/FSS. It is non-printable and non-spinnable.
EVENTLOG is processed using the Spool Data Set Browse interface.

As mentioned earlier in this section, the Spool Data Set Browse (SDSB)
interface can be used to access the EVENTLOG data set. The data set name
supplied to SDSB can be used to control which records in the EVENTLOG data set
are returned to the application on a GET request. For example, if the
application wants to retrieve all records in the EVENTLOG data set it can use
the fully qualified data set name:

 userid.jobname.jobID.D008.EVENTLOG
Additionally, the application can use the following logical data set name to
retrieve all EVENTLOG records:

 userid.jobname.jobID.EVENTLOG

Additionally, the application can use the following logical data set name to
retrieve all EVENTLOG records:

 userid.jobname.jobID.EVENTLOG

For more information on specifying a data set name to the SDSB interface, see
Specifying the Data Set Name (DALDSNAM).

So it looks like there is a jes2 spool dataset name you should be able to
access, but not with IEBGENER. Something called the Spool Data Set Browse

Price? It costs $0.00 US to download and use. It only costs money if a
support contract is needed. And by download and use, I mean just that. You
go to the site and download it. No registration required. It does not need
any special authorizations in z/OS or UNIX. So it could be downloaded and
installed by anyone who is smart enough to do it. I.e., it doesn't need to
be installed like a z/OS program product. It's just an application.

Re: Java and .jar files on OMVS

2015-11-03 Thread Kirk Wolf
In the wild, scp and sftp are binary protocols. Most implementations don't
do any conversion for either.
The problem is that there isn't anything in the packet specs for these
protocols to indicate conversion, codepages, etc.

IBM chose to make sftp binary (but there is a switch in the z/OS sftp
client to do conversion) and for scp (on both the z/OS client and server)
to always do conversion.
IBM's scp and sftp implementations also don't support MVS data sets, JES
spool files, etc, etc.

For a complete z/OS implementation of SFTP for z/OS, you can use Co:Z SFTP
  with IBM Ported Tools OpenSSH.

*|* *JOURNAL)* *DATA* *SET*
 *IS* *ABOUT* *percent**%* *FULL*

The *percent%* value was 92%...

Issue the following command and paste it for us to see

F DFHSM,Q SETSYSDFHSM or how you call DFHSM at your site.

You can just paste the relevant section on the BCDS percentages. It is
possible someone might have altered your numbers through a dynamic set command.

Re: Java and .jar files on OMVS

Kirk Wolf wrote:

In the wild, scp and sftp are binary protocols. Most implementations don't
do any conversion for either.

sftp is modeled on ftp where there has always been the switch between text and
image (binary).

IBM chose to make sftp binary (but there is a switch in the z/OS sftp
client to do conversion) and for scp (on both the z/OS client and server)
to always do conversion.

Perfectly technically feasible and perfectly tone deaf. It should have been
the other way around. In fact, it is.
OMVS sftp has the text/binary switch. On the other hand, scp, which possesses
the -r (recursive directory/subdir copy)
is crippled on OMVS by being only text mode. How absurd and illogical and
flying in the face of universal usage of scp
outside OMVS.

I would post a summary of our community conversation on this point over the
past few days on the m...@openbsd.org
list for laughs but I don't want to expose IBM to their kidding :)
