Be careful to pay attention to your configuration. If you are running a sysplex
with multiple Master Catalogs then you will likely find data sets which are
catalogued on the other system from the one where you are running.

SMS shouldn't have uncataloged datasets. In reality, there are ways... All of
which should be considered an error.

Of course, in my opinion. Most, if not all, uncataloged datasets are likely in
error. And the reason(s) for looking for them is to correct these errors.

So, I wouldn't exclude my SMS volumes from such a search.

Hello again,
Mike, when I first answered a while ago, I forgot to thank you for your
suggestion but, at present, there is no overture to invest on vendor tools.
Thank you any way.

Kolosu,
I have tried DFDSS as you suggested. However, it is not working.
If I run it like this:

DUMP DATASET(INCLUDE(**) -
 EXCLUDE(SYS1.**) -
 BY((REFDT,LE,*,-90) -
(DSORG NE VSAM) -
(CATLG EQ NO))) -
 LOGINDDNAME(DASD1) -
 OUTDDNAME(WHOOOPS)

DASD1 being a DD for a volume, it works. But if I run it like this:

DUMP DATASET(INCLUDE(**) -
 EXCLUDE(SYS1.**) -
 BY((REFDT,LE,*,-90) -
(DSORG NE VSAM) -
(CATLG EQ NO))) -
 OUTDDNAME(WHOOOPS)

it fails with ADR140E (001)-RI03 (05), INVALID 'BY' CRITERIA

Hello,
Thank you all for your suggestions. I will begin by trying DFDSS as
suggested by Kolosu, as I have not tried like that. If it works as I need,
it will be the more standard approach, which is what I am looking for. If
that will not work, than I will have a go with the CBT.
I will keep you posted of the developments.

Re: Finding uncatalogued datasets

2022-07-22 Thread Michael Watkins
The installation where I'm employed has MVS/QuickRef installed, but we do not
currently use it to find uncataloged datasets.

Can you provide a sample of the batch job using MVS/Quickref to find all
uncataloged datasets? Preferably one that would employ a mask for volumes to
exclude, since temporary datasets, restricted to one pool where I work, are not
cataloged by design.

statements.

>> Using ADRDDSU and (CATLG EQ NO) is not an option as it would need a DD

Jack,

Not sure what you tried, but you can try the DUMP command with TYPRUN=NORUN so
that you can see the list of datasets that will processed.

Try this

//GENLIST  EXEC PGM=ADRDSSU,PARM='TYPRUN=NORUN'
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
//PSEUDO   DD DUMMY
//PSEUDO   DD DUMMY
//SYSINDD *
  DUMP   /* Command DUMP */ -
   DS(INCL(*.**) /* Include all datasets */ -
   BY((REFDT,LE,*,-90))) /* Select If CATLG EQ NO*/ -
   OUTDD(PSEUDO)
/*

You can route the SYSPRINT to a dataset and run DFSORT to extract the contents.
Let me know if you are interested in that.

Thanks,
Kolusu

Many thanks for your prompt help.
I´ll work with the team who owns the IWS in order to implement these

If it works I´ll post the results here for the list.

I think Colin has pointed you in the right direction.

I wonder if (alternatively) you could configure IBM Z Workload Scheduler for
HTTP (unencrypted) traffic but then use z/OS AT-TLS to provide the TLS 1.2+
support with your desired cipher suites.

Or check out XMITIP (https://github.com/lbdyck/xmitip or https://cbttape.org
file 314) which supports the text to pdf (plus others) and is open source,
using standard system interfaces and is also easy to install and use.

It's free, other than your time/resources so you can install and try it out
quickly and without dealing with contract negotiations, purchase orders,
etc. Depending on your needs it may be adequate - while not efficient as it
is mostly rexx (you can compile it if you have the rexx compiler) it does
work well and has for a couple of decades during which it has continued to
be enhanced.
