How do I setup an DFRMM Vault with VRS
Here's my problem. Customer has a specific set of tape volsers that he backups data on Sunday. On Monday he gets a pull list (currently from CA1) of those tape to put in a box and shipped off somewhere. After 35 days they return back home where they are expired. So I figured I'd create a LOCDEF with those tapes, a VRS that matches the dataset with a COUNT(1) and a NEXTVRS that points to that LOCDEF with a COUNT(35). The expiration date tracks ok, it's just I don't know how to get a pull list for those tapes. How FTP server assigns DCB attributes
I've been using MVS FTP for the longest time. I've encountered this problem but it never presented much of a problem until I had a problem with someone. Our company accepts SMF data that's been compressed via TRSMAIN (LRECL=1024,RECFM=FB). I wrote SMS routines such that if a user signs in using a certain RACF userid it gets assigned a DATACLAS such that it assigns the correct DCB. I also have the ftp parm file (/etc/ftp.parm) set up to default to LRECL=80 RECFM=FB BLKSIZE=27920 seeing as how MOST ftps I''ve seen is moving XMIT files between MVS and other platforms. My question is this. Why when I use a DOS Window and client to sign on does it assign the correct DATACLAS but use the default LRECL=80 but when I go from MVS to MVS it works correctly. As an aside..I've NEVER understood why IBM sends LRECL 256 RECFM VB BLKSIZE 6233 as the defaults. -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN

Re: Question about ML2 expired datasets
My impression is that HSM migrated the dataset from disk to tape and recataloged it to MIGRAT. HSM decided at some point to remove the entry where the dataset was on the tape. Why shouldn't HSM uncatalog it. He (DFHSM) is responsible for knowing where on a tape a dataset is not Tape Mgmt System. DFHSM.MIGRATE.xxx is how tape system knows tape files -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
Question about ML2 expired datasets
Scenario is quite simple. Datasets have been migrated to ML2 tape. They expired so DFHSM marked the tape files deleted yet the catalogue entries still exit. For some reason DFHSM is not uncataloging the datasets from master catalogue during any space management cycles -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
Error or Journal Dataset
I just got this error on a multi system shared DFHSM database. I can't anything recent and since the disk drives are new technology DS8 type I doubt there's a hardware error. The complete message is below. Any help would be appreciated and no we can't call IBM, it's z/OS 1.11 and they'd want ransom money to answer the problem. How does DFHSM determine what datasets to migrate
I have DFHSM running on z/OS 1.11. It migrates certain SMS managed volumes when they hit a certain percent full and keep migrating until a lower threshhold is hit. My question is this. What order does it dump datasets? Does it start in the vtoc and go in sequential order? The customer seems to feel that it should start with the olddest datasets first. My impression is it just goes in vtoc order and migrates the biggest datasets -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN

EMC 6000 Virtual Tape Drive
Does anyone out there have ANY experience with the EMC DLm6000 virtual tape server. I am working for a MAJOR software developer who got one of these for free. They provided almost NO documentation. What little doc I have only peripherally talks about SMS routines, RMM, and how to run utilities. From what I can see you have to run a utulity pointing to an offline drive and run the output out the a NON Labeled tape and that print it off (WTF?). We have it setup with 2 esoterics; say 1 set of UCBs UNIT=LARGE for big tapes and UNIT=SMALL for small tapes. When I try and run a job I get a mount message for the exact OPPOSITE set of UCBS. ie I say UNIT=LARGE and one of the SMALL ucbs gets allocated. To make matters worse I have NO IDEA if there actually tapes loaded in it despite RMM having the VOLSERs in the TAPE LIBRARY and OAM is running and SYS1.VOLCAT.GENERAL is defined. Adding SCRATCH tapes to DFRMM
I am going batsh*t crazy trying to add tapes to the RMM scratch tape list. I use the panel to add a scratch tape and it shows in INIT status. I can't change it to scratch status cause the panels work against me. Is there a STRAIGHFORWARD way to just add VOLSERS that are immediately ready to be SCRATCH status. I'm no CA fanboy but boy was it easy to add scratches to TMS. DFHSMDUMPCYCLE question
I hope someone out there knows the answer. I would like to take a full volume dump of a DASD volume on Monday and save it for one week. That much I can figure out with a DUMPCYCLE statement. My question is..is it possible for DFHSM to detect the first Monday in a month and instead of using a DUMPCYCLE for a weekly dump it would use a DUMPCYCLE for a monthly dump so I could use a longer expiration date of 1 year as opposed to a week for the normal Monday dump -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
