Re: 3590 tape drives
Kurt, Hope you were able to find someone to maintain your 3590-B11's and A50 controller. If you did, would you mind sharing who you made arrangements with for continued HW support? Earlier this year I upgraded my 3590-B11's and A50 controllers to 3590-E11's and A60 controllers as I was aware that IBM would no longer maintain B11's and A50's as of July 1, 2014. I did so with thinking that the 'newer' models would continue to be maintained for at least a few more years as there are more E11/E1A and H11/H1A drives still in use, as opposed to B11 drives. Unfortunately, IBM Withdrawal Announcement 914-145, dated July 15, 2014, will require me to revisit the issue of HW maintenance support for my 3590-E11 drives and A60 controllers. 914-145 states: IBM will withdraw from its lease, rental, and maintenance agreements the machine types and models listed below, effective January 31, 2015. (Only 6 months 2 weeks notice!) 3590-E11 3590-E1A 3590-H11 3590-H1A Also, effective January 31, 2016: 3590-A60 -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN

Has anyone done this and if so were there config changes required in control unit or elsewhere?\ In control unit (HCD, IODF) - no, elsewhere - yes. RMM and other tape management systems do recognize the above change. You could also review DEVSUPxx and DFSMSHSM. The good news is old tapes will be read in new drives and you are not first who's going to perform such change. The bad news is AFAIR old media have to be reinitialized to be written by new drives. -- Radoslaw Skorupka Lodz, Poland --- Treść tej wiadomości może zawierać informacje prawnie chronione Banku przeznaczone wyłącznie do użytku służbowego adresata. Greg, Sorry to bug you, but since I saw your name come across on the IBM-main, I thought I could ask you for something. I had sent an e-mail to what I hoped was your correct e-mail address. I had not heard anything so I am trying this route. I remember a few years back you had created a REXX and Icetool job to create a report from the SMF 119 subtype(02,03,72) records (I think). I have been tasked with creating some kind of report like that for the state of Oklahoma. I found how to get these records generated in the TCPIP profile member. I have them selected off to a separate file but can't seem to get a decent report as I don't know SAS. They want to have that column showing 'jobname'. I am wondering if you wouldn't mind sending me that REXX/Icetool job in a .txt format to this e-mail (If you still have it). I would really appreciate it as it would save me several days work.
