Re: [ilugd] Linux equivalent

2007-01-11 Thread Neeraj Arora
Hey Guys

I have used Quark Express Adobe Pagemaker on WIN Platform using
SCRIBUS on LIN platform from past around 4 months.

My experience says that what we get on WIN platform thru above mentioned
applications...we get much more on LIN through Scribus...

So according to my opinion anyone who wants to switch to Quark Express
on LIN platform should definitely go for Scribus firstPLS

 Hi Sudev,
Quark express is a competitior to PageMaker. Something that Scribus aims
 to become.

There is a commercial program that is available on win, linux and mac. I

[ilugd] GRUB,LILO-Graphical Textual

2006-03-27 Thread Neeraj Arora
This is to tell about a problem which i faced during making an
assembeled system dual boot with WIN XP-SP2 and Linux box.

The system contained :

Sony Floppy drive
Samsung 40 GB hard disk
Samsung CD-ROM
TVS Keyborad
Intex Mouse
845i Motherboard (P4 processor.)
256 MB DDR RAM

I partitioned the system as C Drive(FAT32) - 10GB, 20 GB(FAT32) - D
Drive, 10 GB - For LINUX.
When i started installing the PCQLinux2004 on it, it took around 44
mins. to install GNOME,XServer,KDE with all the reqd. packages that also
include MySQL,Apache packages too with a very smooth(no problematic)
installation. BUT, when i rebooted the system, it showed something like
:

GRUB loading

But after this no other screen appeared, even not the next screen for
selecting the desired operating System.

Then i went with Min. installation for the command-line installation
only.Even then after the smooth installation the system rebooted and it
didn't show the post screen after the sentence GRUB loading :

Then i went with Mandrakelinux 10.1 installtion to actually change the
bootloader to LILO (graphical). The installation again went very
smooth. But when i went for starting the system it showed me as following
:

LILO loading 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99

.
.
.
But didn't went to next screen for choosing the Desired operating
system.
Then i again went for re-installing Mandrakelinux 10.1 with LILO
(textual).
But again during reboot after it's installation same message came on the
first screen and then no other screen came after that.

Then finally i tried for Fedora Core 4 installation with minimum
installation(command line). Then again the same thing happened during
reboot for the GRUB Bootloader ..I left the system then there with
10GB(C-Drive), 20GB(D-Drive), 10GB(E-Drive);all FAT32 partitions with
WIN-XP-SP2 deployed on it.

The thing to surprise me is that WIN-XP is taking a very nice boot on
the system. But none of LINUX flavours even after recognizing the
Video,Mouse,Monitor drivers take the boot correctly.

Kindly tell if there is any catch for this.

Re: [ilugd] Query reg Knoppix PostgreSQL

2006-03-17 Thread Neeraj Arora
Hi Dear

Uptill the extent i have worked on knoppix i found it runs very well on
machine once chosen as to be right for any time you need it.So don't
think for the reliability of that kind of Project.

The major thing to think about is whether the project people wherever is
this to installed will work continously because once shutdown or
restarted the data or any critical information stored on Postgre will be
lost; u need to revive again the entire thing..

So anything about knoppix once started it is up running on a machine
i think it can run for any time till u don't expire(don't mind).even i
have worked with a m/c running knoppix continously for around 2.5 days
without any shutdown restart and entire data of mysql PHP was there
even after 2.5 hrs.

For Installation of knoppix on a m/c (Knoppix 3.2) : knx -hd install
similarly Knoppix 3.6 has a command like : knx.. (use tab u will
get to know the command)

2) Also check whether the Master smb server is running or not..or go to
KONSOLE on linux write ntsysv to let the service start as when u

3) The thrid thing is to start LISA process.(if it's installed)..

BEFORE all this check whether u r able to ping ur Windows sytem or

Re: [ilugd] request to download Clusterknoppix

2004-05-15 Thread Neeraj Arora
Hello

Mayank Jain Me (Neeraj Arora) studying in Maharaja Agrasen institute of
technology had tried to run Cluster Knoppix on a networked PC.It requires
ur configuring of DHCP too.We did it thru Webmin. But it was not at all
detecting the hosts by itself not assigning any IP to them.

We didn't know where the stuck is.Well we downloaded that first if u
want u can try it also..may be that u could find any solution

 Hello!

This is a request to people who have enough bandwidth. I want to test
drive openMosix. A distribution known as Clusterknoppix uses the
modified the OpenMosix kernel. You can just boot up a networked PC and
it will auto detect other nodes running and make itself a part of the
 cluster.

Can anyone with good bandwidth download it? Please let me know if this
is possible and how much do I have to pay you for it. The download page
 is http://bofh.be/clusterknoppix/download.htm

 Hi Everyone.
This is my first post on this mailing list.
Since I have attended LinuxAsia 2004, I have been trying to learn Linux
as much as possible and also helping other people in my area to move to
Linux. To do more RD on Linux, it involves reading alot of documentation
and online resources on the computer. This makes it very stressful for my
 eyes.

So can anyone suggest some good text-to-speech softwares which have a
more human like voice output. Because the most of which i have tried till
now have a very computerised voice, which is not good enough to read out
a book or anything like that.

I thank in advance anyone who replies to my mail.
