Looks like firewall is dropping packets.

But, since I can connect to it from here, so I think your ISP might be
dropping packets destined to port 25. Try tcptraceroute-ing.

Thanks Ashish, for your prompt response.

So, you are able to do a 'telnet mail.channelorama.com 25' from your
host? If so, it sure seems to be blocking my host. traceroute fails to
find 'mail.channelorama.com' but tracepath can find it...in a pretty
long path.

 1) various LUG and foss admins, would recommend you take the pipes and
the feeds and dose them to your respective sites.

 2) rahul, you could consider asking your staff to submit event-entries
to this site, and then feed it back to your openitis.com site.

 3) periodically, a few of us, including i, will send reminders out on
mailing lists, requesting people to submit their event details to this
 url.

okie dokie, let's roll with the details. so don't tell me we've only
got foss.in and chennai's event happening. we've got:

 barcamp in bangalore in november
 freed.in feb 2008
 linuxasia new avatar in feb
 gnunify
 osscamp delhi
 placeholders..

whoever has the details, please add them to the site.

Now that the upgraded ILUG-D site is up and running, one cool new
feature it has is the ability to configure News Channels. These
channels are nothing but a set of pre-configured RSS feeds that users
can choose from to display on their ILUG-D home page. I have just added
the Foss events in India RSS feed to the default set and so, you
should be able to view it through ILUG-D site. These News channels get
updated every hour.

The technical issue is about upgrading mySQL at ILUG-D site. It is
currently running a mySQL version 3.x, and the newer version of the
ILUG-D CMS was developed on mySQL version 4.x. I should have kept that
in mind when making changes to ILUG-D CMS, but I made all the changes
locally on my home PC which runs mySQL 4.x and higher versions. Since
the changes are quite a few, I was hoping that instead of fixing the
code, mySQL be upgraded at ILUG-D site (which seems to be overdue
anyway). I have talked to Raj about it, but clearly Raj has his plate
full with Freed and other such stuff. May be, its time we can ask for
a volunteer? It should be noted that there are probably other systems
running at ILUG-D server that are using mySQL and so, an upgrade might
be impacting those too.

Nishi

In this situation, why not run two instances of
mysql. Mysql 3.x can run on defaulr 3306 port and
mysql 4.x be configured to run on another port. You
will need to change your 4.x based cms to talk to new
port instead of default port. Most of the CMS allow
you to configure port number. Two instances will
change allow 3.x based apps to work normally.
Let me know if you still need a volunteer, I will be
 ready to extend support.

 VK

I think I could surely use some help. However, you will need to have
access to the ILUG-D server, which is something that Raj can help you with.

[ilugd] Latest version of ILUG-D web site released

2007-03-03 Thread Nishikant Kapoor
Dear friends,

First, apologies for cross posting.

I am very pleased to announce the newest release of ILUG-D web site. The
main highlights include personalized (a) laypout of the home page, (b)
selection of news channels, and (c) setting reminders. Spam protection using
CAPTCHA in most form submissions, enhanced Pictures gallery, and a
better overall integration are some of the other major changes.

BUT, there is a problem. I have not been able to install it at the
original ILUG-D site, as I am running into some incompatibility issues
with mySQL version. I developed the upgrade using mySQL 4.x, whereas
ILUG-D site has 3.x. I could have waited till the issue was resolved,
but I decided to go ahead anyway. So, when you visit the ILUG-D site,
you will be re-directed to another location where the newer version is
installed. I realize that it may not sit well with many of us, but I
wanted to use this opportunity to gather your feedback, and be ready for when
the original site is available.

Regards,
Nishi

 looking at this:

one can sort by state - not by locality. Also, 5000 odd members are
shown - if we go by chennai poll, only 5% would be active members -
250? Sounds high. So culling from the database would not be of much
help. Unless a locality field is added to the db and members are
requested to fill in the locality field. Most of them would have
forgotten their passwords anyway - so I think the wiki would be

There is no 'locality' field, but 'city' should do exactly the same, and it is
searchable. There is a 'street' field too, but presently not searchable.
Searching for 'Shahadara' does get a list of 5 members, so it works too:-)

I am looking to upgrade ILUG-D CMS system (which has much better search, in
addition to many other goodies :-), but have stumbled on an unforeseen issue. I
developed the upgrade on my home PC which has mySQL Ver. 4.1.11, whereas the one
on ILUG-D host is 3.23.44. Since changes are more than just a few, I was hoping
that it would be easier to upgrade mySQL. However, Raj is understandably very
busy, and there are probably other systems on that host that access mySQL, and
need to be coordinated with the mySQL upgrade as well.

Nishi

it quite nice. Even though I have ordered their free CDs, it may take
a long time to reach.

Is there anyplace where I can get Ubuntu in Delhi to load onto my
machine? Or should I at present load Red Hat and wait for later to
load Ubuntu.

I would be very grateful for a reply. My other email is
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and my mobile number is 98688 88388.

Thank you,
Aniket.

[ilugd] Fwd: Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender

2005-08-02 Thread Nishikant Kapoor
My last attempt to post to ILUG-D mailing list from my Linux desktop at home
failed due to the following error. Apparently, this is something new that
ILUG-D mailing list has deployed, because I clearly remember having posted to
the list using the exact same setup not too long ago.

Anyway, I think it is a good protection against spam, and so I have made
prescribed changes as mentioned in the accompanied link, and am trying to
resend it to the mailing list - just to make sure I have done it right. Sorry
for any inconvenience.

Regards,

Hello,
I am sending a note to some of the larger Linux User Groups around the
world letting them know about some things IBM is working on.

I have just launched this years version of an Open Source Developer
Contest. This contest awards the development of new, and the porting of
specific existing Open Source applications to LinuxPPC64. The idea is
to raise awareness and knowledge/experience with regard to LinuxPPC64.
Prizes include Segway HTs, Apple Power Mac G5s, and good 'ole cash. I
encourage your members to join the contest as well as spread the word.
Additional information can be found at: http://www.linuxonpower.com .

Also, I have been working with a number of Universities world-wide that
are interested in hosting LinuxPPC64 systems to provide free access to
the Open Source community for developing and porting applications on
LinuxPPC64. I hope to have a school in India on-line by the end of the
year. So far there are three Universities on-line w/ more to come
looking out over the year. The Universities currently offering access
include the University of Portland (http://www.egr.up.edu:8080), the
University of Augsburg (http://tuxppc.rz.uni-augsburg.de/), and Peking
University (http://ppclinux.pku.edu.cn/ ). U of P and Peking University
are running SLES9, while U of Augsburg is running Debian on our latest
POWER5 processor. If your members / affiliates are interested in
working on state-of-the-art LinuxPPC64 systems, please go to any of
those web sites and register for a free ssh account.

I hope this note finds you having a good day. If you have any
questions, please let me know.

I'm always happy to share my experiences. In my experience, if you use
words like thot, wud and some1, anyone with a clue will conclude
that you are an idiot and ignore you.
Folks,
Do we really have to be this intolerant...that we start calling names
especially, realizing the fact that there are far more 'novices' in our
group than 'Gurus' and 'Power Users' and so, certain posts like these
are just plain inadvertent mistakes.

First, the 'OT/music' incident and now 'improper words in email'! Come
on people, lets get a bit (maybe a byte) easy on such issues and reply
gently (if at all you think you need to). A handful of us do not want to
intimidate the rest of us, do we? I agree, we need to let the
'wrong-doers' know what wrong they have done but I feel, we need to be a
little more gentle.

For cases like the above wherein the original author is absolutely
totally clueless as to what category he/she should post his/her

intentions edited) the author or the moderator can *Move* the discussion
to be listed under the relevant topic as is done in various sites.

I have no idea whether the software being used by us allows the
moderator to do this if not then the moderator should hand out contracts
to hunt down the *%^*% original author and ki?? him/her.
Yes, the software does provide the option of 'fixing' such posts. When
logged in, moderator should see an 'Edit' option next to each entry,
which can be used to 'fix' such posts.

ILUG-D site provide two alternatives -

Either should do the job and both are 'subscribable' so you will be

Re: [ilugd] ILUG-D website

2004-02-25 Thread Nishikant Kapoor
you could use the linux-delhi logo i designed (in svg or png format)
file in the downloads area of linux-delhi, on the top-left, and use the
maharaja tux illustration as our delhite version of the mascot on the
right. or vice-versa. that will give us the proper visual communication
+ identity i have been trying very hard to achieve for linux-delhi for a
few months.
Done. On the top left is ILUG-D logo and on the top right is Maharaja
Tux. Comments, suggestions, feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Nishi

Re: [ilugd] ILUG-D: Contact Us

2004-02-25 Thread Nishikant Kapoor
Dear Mr Gahlot,

Thanks for your email.

ILUG-D site is undergoing a complete renovation and although, there is
still so much more to do, it is back for your use. Please visit the site
and check it out.

As for the 'Resources' section, it may take a little while before it is
re-written and released. Meanwhile, you could use 'Discussions' and/or
'News' sections of the site to post your details.

Nishi

Message from L.K.Gahlot:

Hello Admin,

I have recently added myself to the member list of this LUG.

I'm a Noida based consultant specializing in Linux and I wanted to post my contact details on this site but I could not find a place where I could add them.

I wanted to suggest if you guys could add a category under 'Resources' section called 'Consultants' or 'Service Providers'. This category would cater to many individuals and organisations.

Alternatively, please do let me know which is the right place or category where I could post my details.

Thanking you

b) the new site architecture reflects how ilug-d has evolved. fantastic.
do we need a section on 'linux in education' in the discussions area?
Although we do have LAP site, mailing list, Wiki, etc. etc., it would
not be a bad idea to have this discussion category. I will add it if I
do not hear otherwise.

c) the description for distributions must clearly mention that this is
the forum to contact for requests for cds.
I was hoping that we would have discussions about various Linux
distributions under 'Distributions' category i.e. our experiences, good
and/or bad with different distributions that we have used over time.
But, you make a good point. In fact, why not designate this category for
exchanging, providing, requesting CDs?

d)the tux mascot could be substituted with the maharaja illustration
that debuted at the linuxasia2k4 show.
Just did. Personally, I find it a bit too 'reddish' :-)

[ilugd] New ILUG-D is online!

2004-02-22 Thread Nishikant Kapoor
All,

The new version of ILUG-D site is online now. Please visit the site and
feel free to send in your comments, suggestions, feedback, flames, etc.
etc. In fact, I would suggest starting a discussion under 'ILUG-D Web
Site' in case you have anything to say about the site. That will help me
keep track of it.

The new site is based on perl+mySQL and has loads of new features
including the recently discussed 'Discussions Board'. Some features like
'Downloads' and 'Resources' are not yet implemented but will be soon.
The list of features is rather long and the better option would be to
visit the site and find it for yourself.

Regards,
Nishi

[ilugd] [Fwd: New project: pcb for 8088/8086]

 Original Message
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Title: pcb for 8088/8086
Description: this might not be directly related to linux..we are
planning to build an 8088/86 based computer as part of our hardware
project in delhi college of engineering.this particular processor was
chosen because of its relative simpicity.

we have run into two problems..
1.we have found most of the component ICs..but the pcb is nowhere to be
found..is there any place where we can get the pcb made or , where we
can get it readymade?

2.BIOS- where the hell do we get the bios program?? i read once that
linux can be used to substitue the bios...while that may not be possible
in this case, is there any place where we can get the bios program for
this particular setup??

the due date for submission is 9th jan, and we have very little
time...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings all,

Just thought you might enjoy the following quote if you haven't seen it
already.
...If Darl McBride was in charge, he'd probably make marriage
unconstitutional too, since clearly it de-emphasizes the commercial
nature of normal human interaction, and probably is a major impediment
to the commercial growth of prostitution, he [Torvalds] wrote

Re: [ilugd] Logos (finally a reality)

2003-11-30 Thread Nishikant Kapoor
I have just created a poll at ILUG-D site to pick a logo.

BTW, for the T-shirts, are we going to have this logo on front, on back
or on both sides?

Nishi

HI!
The logos are ready. Sorry for the dealy. My aim was
to prepare a website that will showcase them, but the
file manager at the tripod just refuses to upload
files. So, after trying desperately for 48 times in
last 24 hrs, i had decided to archive the files and
upload on illugd website.
The file is named logos.zip and contains 3 logos. So
those who want to participate in the selection can
download the file.
Now, i want some one to create a choose logo event as
i dont know perl and all the modules of illugd are in
perl.

I had chalked out the procedure for selection of
logo, which is as following:-
1. logos are for viewing for one full day.
2.Voting starts from 1/12/03 and will remain open till
5/12/03
3.votes are counted and winner is announced on 7/12/03
4.I will redraw the logo and official version will be
released on 09/12/03 in vector format.
5. we will have time to decide on T-shirts, get them
printed before 21/12/03.
I am open to suggestion regarding logo and will
incorporate them when i will redraw the logo, as you
all will notice they are not protionate right now and
appear more of potraits than logos and thats because i
drew 18 of them and rejected 15 so, i was just drawing
them as thoughts poured in and finally selected
components and scaned them as different layers and
combined into logos.
Firstly let's decide on the concept and then i can
redraw it from sracth in one day time, so please
refrain from posting coments on size and proportion.
Suggestions can be posted on the list or can be
emailed to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

bye for now
