You mean you don't see the temporary redirection notice before you are sent to webrachna? - Sandip The technical issue is about upgrading mySQL at ILUG-D site. It is currently running a mySQL version 3.x, and the newer version of the ILUG-D CMS was developed on mySQL version 4.x. I should have kept that in mind when making changes to ILUG-D CMS, but I made all the changes locally on my home PC which runs mySQL 4.x and higher versions. Since the changes are quite a few, I was hoping that instead of fixing the code, mySQL be upgraded at ILUG-D site (which seems to be overdue anyway). I have talked to Raj about it, but clearly Raj has his plate full with Freed and other such stuff. May be, its time we can ask for a volunteer? It should be noted that there are probably other systems running at ILUG-D server that are using mySQL and so, an upgrade might be impacting those too. In this situation, why not run two instances of mysql. Mysql 3.x can run on defaulr 3306 port and mysql 4.x be configured to run on another port. You will need to change your 4.x based cms to talk to new port instead of default port. Most of the CMS allow you to configure port number. Two instances will change allow 3.x based apps to work normally. Let me know if you still need a volunteer, I will be ready to extend support. regards VK I think I could surely use some help. [ilugd] Latest version of ILUG-D web site released
Dear friends, First, apologies for cross posting. I am very pleased to announce the newest release of ILUG-D web site. The main highlights include personalized (a) laypout of the home page, (b) selection of news channels, and (c) setting reminders. Spam protection using CAPTCHA in most form submissions, enhanced Pictures gallery, and a better overall integration are some of the other major changes. BUT, there is a problem. I have not been able to install it at the original ILUG-D site, as I am running into some incompatibility issues with mySQL version. I developed the upgrade using mySQL 4.x, whereas ILUG-D site has 3.x. I could have waited till the issue was resolved, but I decided to go ahead anyway. So, when you visit the ILUG-D site, you will be re-directed to another location where the newer version is installed. I realize that it may not sit well with many of us, but I wanted to use this opportunity to gather your feedback, and be ready for when the original site is available. Unless a locality field is added to the db and members are requested to fill in the locality field. Most of them would have forgotten their passwords anyway - so I think the wiki would be There is no 'locality' field, but 'city' should do exactly the same, and it is searchable. There is a 'street' field too, but presently not searchable. Searching for 'Shahadara' does get a list of 5 members, so it works too:-) I am looking to upgrade ILUG-D CMS system (which has much better search, in addition to many other goodies :-), but have stumbled on an unforeseen issue. I developed the upgrade on my home PC which has mySQL Ver. 4.1.11, whereas the one on ILUG-D host is 3.23.44. Since changes are more than just a few, I was hoping that it would be easier to upgrade mySQL. I have just launched this years version of an Open Source Developer Contest. This contest awards the development of new, and the porting of specific existing Open Source applications to LinuxPPC64. The idea is to raise awareness and knowledge/experience with regard to LinuxPPC64. Prizes include Segway HTs, Apple Power Mac G5s, and good 'ole cash. I encourage your members to join the contest as well as spread the word. Additional information can be found at: http://www.linuxonpower.com . Also, I have been working with a number of Universities world-wide that are interested in hosting LinuxPPC64 systems to provide free access to the Open Source community for developing and porting applications on LinuxPPC64. I hope to have a school in India on-line by the end of the year. So far there are three Universities on-line w/ more to come looking out over the year. The Universities currently offering access include the University of Portland (http://www.egr.up.edu:8080), the University of Augsburg (http://tuxppc.rz.uni-augsburg.de/), and Peking University (http://ppclinux.pku.edu.cn/ ). U of P and Peking University are running SLES9, while U of Augsburg is running Debian on our latest POWER5 processor. If your members / affiliates are interested in working on state-of-the-art LinuxPPC64 systems, please go to any of those web sites and register for a free ssh account. I hope this note finds you having a good day. i just thot some of u guys may have had other certifcation apart from just rhce only... so thot it wud be nice if some1 is willing to share their experience I'm always happy to share my experiences. In my experience, if you use words like thot, wud and some1, anyone with a clue will conclude that you are an idiot and ignore you. Folks, Do we really have to be this intolerant...that we start calling names especially, realizing the fact that there are far more 'novices' in our group than 'Gurus' and 'Power Users' and so, certain posts like these are just plain inadvertent mistakes. First, the 'OT/music' incident and now 'improper words in email'! Come on people, lets get a bit (maybe a byte) easy on such issues and reply gently (if at all you think you need to). A handful of us do not want to intimidate the rest of us, do we? I agree, we need to let the 'wrong-doers' know what wrong they have done but I feel, we need to be a little more gentle. So those who want to participate in the selection can download the file. Now, i want some one to create a choose logo event as i dont know perl and all the modules of illugd are in perl. I am open to suggestion regarding logo and will incorporate them when i will redraw the logo, as you all will notice they are not protionate right now and appear more of potraits than logos and thats because i drew 18 of them and rejected 15 so, i was just drawing them as thoughts poured in and finally selected components and scaned them as different layers and combined into logos.
