[ilugd] Zabbix E-mail Alert using script

2012-11-20 Thread Vijay Thakur
All List Members,

I have configure Zabbix 1.8.3 in ubuntu 12.04 LTS. All things are working
fine. I am able to generate the reports, add the host for monitoring etc.
According to the generated triggers, zabbix should send e-mail alerts, but
it is not sending mails.
As described in the document:
http://dev.aperto.fr/projects/zabbixextensions/wiki/Advanced_email_notifications

I am using a script to send the e-mail alerts generated by zabbix. I am
able to send e-mail by using this script using a command from my terminal :

echo -e Subject: Test Mail\r\n\r\nThis is a test mail |msmtp --debug
--from=default -t usern...@gmail.com

But zabbix is not sending the e-mail. Is there anyone in the list who can
point me in right direction. I am struggling to solve this issue from last
many weeks.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. As a newbie things are not clear for me. So let me
explain the my confusion in detail.

I have a Public and Static IP Address. What will be the Hostname of my Qmail
Server if my registered domain name is
xyz.com. Is there any other requirement at server end except Public
Static IP and FQDN.

There are MX Records, A Records, NS Records, SRV Records Tabs in my Domain
Control Panel. Can you elaborate
the options and entries.

Thanks

You need to configure DNS for your domain and create an address record
like mail.yourdomain.com which should point to your server's IP
address. In order to make it globally accessible over the internet,
you should ideally have a public and static IP address pointing to the
server. Further, in order to receive incoming mails for your domain,
you should also specify the server (mail.yourdomain.com) as the MX for
your domain in the DNS records.

Probably something to do with the automatic preview settings. Not a

I used the instructions on this site to get this working. We are using

clients are able to print on this. You will have to download some
stuff from the canon site.

As of now I can only say that the printer works only with usb

can try to give the answer from my office where it is working.

I think you should move off VB to either what Viksit suggested or Java.
There are even other alternatives like PyQT/PyGTK etc which may make
development faster/more interesting.

I believe Sirtaj has worked on PyQT and could give us a demo on that ,

Viksit Gaur [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Duh! WHY? :)

Is there any

data and structure from windows or I have to design
it again or It will be work as it is in linux
 through or by some emulator.

Well, one possible method is using Wine in Linux to
run your app after its done building and compiling.
But IMHO, not a very good idea.

The other alternative is to use GTK/QT with MySQL as a
backend.

What the hell is GTK/QT, you say

GTK is the Gimp Toolkit and QT is another Rapid
Application Design platform from Trolltech. Both can
be used in methods slightly similar to VC++ and VB
respectively, to develop apps for X. Extensive
documentation is available for both online. Infact,
you probably have Kdevelop or QT Designer already on
your system if you did a RH install with the dev apps.

You might also like to use Anjuta, which I think is
one of the best IDEs available for Linux, to develop
code for anything. MySQL is the free database
available (and the most popular) at mysql.org. Its
fast, small and lightweight and should suit your
purposes optimally.

HTH,

2004-04-16 Thread Vijay Thakur

Dear Friends,

I am using R.H.9, Fedora Core 1, PCQlinux 2004 from Last onet year. I want to install
the Gentoo Os. After booting from the CD of Gentoo I am getting a error on that
/proc/splashimage file not found. After that the installation process stopped. Tell

you are possibly having a hardware incompatibility problem. what motherboard
are you using?

from the gentoo livecd, boot the kernel without framebuffer support (you
should see a boot option which says nofb or no framebuffer). basically
what it does is remove the vga and splash params from the kernel.

you should then be able to continue the installation process.

 (1) Apache Web Server
First read /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf on your RH box. This file will give
you some good info on what needs to be done. Then read the apache manual. If
you are still stuck, use google, and if you continue to be stuck, feel free
to drop a mail on this list! One thing to be careful with apache is that
file permissions pay a big role, and a lot of problems can be traced to
owner/group and permissions.

 (2) Send Mail Server
There is a whole book on sendmail by O' Reily. If you need to learn
sendmail, then this is the book. OTOH consider implementing qmail, postfix
or exim. All of these are in general easier to configure than sendmail, more
secure and faster.

 (5) Domain Name Server
There are tons of HOWTOs on configuring bind. Start with a few of them,
learn about the basic DNS protocol and the way things are organized. Also
get to know the file formats and conventions for bind. Bind is easy once u
know the basics, but pay specific attention to the config files!

BTW.. do read the howto on each subject first. They are really good, and
better than most people can explain general configuration. I find that with
Linux servers, reading the howtos gets you going. For advanced issues, ask
specific questions, and you will get good answers.

Maybe if you explain this error, we can help here too. You would
probably still need to install a local MTA instead. I would recommend
nullmailer(http://untroubled.org/nullmailer/) if you only plan to relay
your outgoing mails to an university mail host.

I have very little experience with sendmail, which personally, I wouldnt
touch even with a long pole because there are so many *much* more sane
replacements available. But again, that is a different topic altogether.

I have no clue why you decide to replace exim - the standard email
 server on debian.

Ok. for one, do you have your hostname correctly put in the /etc/hosts
file? Also, are the DNS settings in /etc/resolv.conf ok? The reason
behind this is that in most cases, sendmail tries to resolve the host of
 the sender.

Also what does a check in /var/log/maillog say? Any change in this file
 after pine sends its mail?

reply to mails through this account(i use pine)...i dont use the
universities SMTP server since it has some rcpthosts(i am really very new
to sendmail and how it works) error thingi.

I have no clue why you decide to replace exim - the standard email
 server on debian.

anyways i have installed and configured sendmail on my machine and then
tried to sendmail.pine shows that it is sending the mail..even though it
takes it a while and it actually says it has sent the message
out...however i recieve no message(i am mailing back to myself).i do not

Ok. for one, do you have your hostname correctly put in the /etc/hosts
file? Also, are the DNS settings in /etc/resolv.conf ok? The reason
behind this is that in most cases, sendmail tries to resolve the host of
 the sender.

Also what does a check in /var/log/maillog say? Any change in this file
 after pine sends its mail?

I am also running a firewall which i created using firestarter and i only
opened up ports 22(ssh),80(http) and ftp(i dont know exactly what port
  that is..22/23?).

 21 for control and 20 for ftp-data i think.

Outgoing mails should not have a problem with the firewall.

Dear Satyakaam,

Reliance mobile is very costly. Will you not suggest me any nokia or motorola mobile
to net access under Linux OS. I want to take a post paid connection of Spice, Airtel.
I can not afford reliance mobile. you mean that I have to purchase a serial port to
connect the mobile with Linux os PC. I am confused about the cable. One cable is with
USB Serial or I have to purchase two cables.
