@All: Should we agree to adopt a policy that all such mails for
un-subscribe requests be replied back to individuals rather than list.
Even if many are to bombard his personal email for not ever reading
the footers? Rather than clutter the list?

Read http://blog.sudev.in for topics ranging from here to there.

PS: I know most of people do not follow email niceties (mostly they
are not aware) but if you follow bottom post/in-line post style of
email conversations it becomes a whole lot easier to carry on
meaningful dialogue and you can snip out what is not meaningful too.
Most people just hit reply button and top post leaving prior message
appended uselessly at bottom. See if you can adopt this style and
persuade others. In case you are already doing this . great,
spread the message.

 Huh? Old hardware?

Here is an extract from info grub, which will explain about error 18.

18 : Selected cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS
This error is returned when a read is attempted at a linear block
address beyond the end of the BIOS translated area. This generally
happens if your disk is larger than the BIOS can handle (512MB for
(E)IDE disks on older machines or larger than 8GB in general).

Try getting into grub shell and pass the boot up parameters by
hand. (typing `help' and hitting the tab keys will usually give you
 the right options.

now the system does not boot, i have important data which i dont want
to loose.now i cannot boot my system in either linux or windows.. what
  should i do?
  thanks

What did you change before the errors started appearing? Normally,

i did not make any changes and this is happening for the second
time.iinstalled edubuntu yesterday and today the same problem started
again.

Please start a new thread instead of taking an already ongoing one,
changing the subject line and posting it again. The subject line is only
loosely related to the threading. Every mail message has a

If you use an existing thread, the result is that your question is
buried below unrelated questions when looking at the mailing list in a
threaded way. This is known as Hijacking threads. It causes
information to be lost and you'll be less likely to get an answer. In
my mail client, all messages in the same thread are collapsed to a
single line in my subjects list until i read the first one. If I don't
read that thread, I would never see the question

I'm sorry that most people don't use a mail client smart enough to
display the mail messages in a threaded way. If I could, I would help
every one of you unfortunate individuals change over to a better mail

mail client that displays threads properly, please quit penalizing those
of us that do. Stop hijacking threads.

I'm not intending this message as a flame. I'm simply trying to educate

Subject: [ilugd] problem with environment variables

hello all

i am trying to compile a file placed on partition
(/mnt/extra) other than / or /home. this partition is
of ext3 type.

now i am trying to compile a java code on /mnt/extra
but it says sme class file is not found. but if i
keep the same file on /home directory it compile
without any error. so the problem is with i guess the environment
variable CLASSPATH.

so where ( file) i should set it so that this problem
get solved. i don't have setenv command on my system
also

thanks
Arundeep

for those of you with oveflowing email boxes, and while doing that rare
post of a mail, i suggest the following solution:

1) unsubscribe.
2) read the mailing list off the archives on the website, to stay
abreast. this is *true* lurking on the mailing list.
3) got a query? then subscribe.
4) post your query.
5) immediately unsubscribe, and read the responses on the archives
again.

cool, ain't it?

and thus in return:
Please open your eyes once in a while and read the last two lines. Its a
website (if you've heard what that is!), which allows you to
unsubscribe. and NO its NOT the most difficult thing in the world!!
