orchid from Sylhet, Bangladesh or may be from some place in Tripura or
Assam close to Sylhet within Indian political boundary.
I would be grateful for all your help.

wagneriana. There are so many introduced varieties in Heliconia
(ornamental) with different shades of colours of the inflorescence and
the foliage, one should be cautious while narrowing down to species.

  Dear Col. Sarkar,
  GOOD MORNING!!
Oroxylum indicum is known as TOTOLA in Nepalese language. It is highly
religious for Buddhists. Making most religious KHADA, page marking of
Buddhists literature, religious decoration etc all are done by its white
papery seeds. Its flowers are quite tasty when fried. Flowers are also liked
by rhinos. However, the plant is also having some medicinal properties

of the substance. He told me that it is known as CHAMPA . In 1983 Mr Kharto (
Tibetan instructor ) wanted to know about the tree known as CHAMPA to the
BHUDDHISTS .I could not enlighten him as to me CHAMA was Michelia
champaca. It was in Udhampur(1998),I opened a dry pod of Oroxylum indicum and
saw the papery seeds inside I understood what CHAMPA means to a BUDDHIST.My
friend Sonam told me that Bhuddhist use the pods and the seeds in worship of
Buddha. This tree is very common at this place. It is known as Ullu in Hindi
 and Sona in Bangla.
This is what S venkatesh tells about the tree,

The tree is conspicuous in the forest when it bears
its scabbard-like fruits which breaks open to release its flat, papery and
 winged seeds.

2011-08-28 Thread ushadi Micromini
Yes, SIgns!!!this happens when non -english learned sign painters paint
the signs... I see this sometimes in our local events ...

This is Nymphea Rene Gerard .. a hardy water lily, introduced in 1914 by a
lily hybridizer named Latour - Marliac who used to supply unfertile seed
bearing plants to high end garden owners of Europe, including his supplies
stocked the water lilly ponds in Monet's garden... which we all love the
paintings of

Who did Latour-marliac name this hybrid for is not known at this time, its
definitely not the linguist of the same name who was not born until the year
1927 or 28... and this cultivar had already been offered in Latour -
marliac's 1914 catalogue This man was a very secretive hybridizer

good work all of you...

Oroxylum indicum is known as TOTOLA in Nepalese language. It is

religious for Buddhists. Making most religious KHADA, page marking

I had identified it as Impatiens micranthemum which as given in FBI (page

clearly seen in your photograph. It is another matter that now this is
placed under I. laxiflora, which is now a more broader complex.

I think I will go with C. cornuta, the spur seems pretty long in one or more
flowers where it is visible. The tips of leaf segments are more or less
pointed in this species, not so in C. govaniana in which also the stem
leaves are not more than two.

[efloraofindia:78634] Re: Nymphaeae Renegeraro

2011-08-28 Thread Ushadi micromini

Pankaj, you may be right... I did some search about history of
Nymphaea hybridization starting in 1800s ...
not found the peach color for Nymphaea Rene Gerard

And there is a peach glow variety photographed at Brooklyn Botanical
garden ... see URl:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d7/Peach_Glow_water-lily_at_Brooklyn_Botanic_Garden.jpg/220px-Peach_Glow_water-lily_at_Brooklyn_Botanic_Garden.jpg

BUT currently Thailand is a hot spot for hybridization of water
lilies it seems ...
and these are brought in regularly ...
its possible... a new hybrid with peach color...
can happen...

or in a less charitable mood..one could say that ... this was
mislabeled by the gardeners...
