Re: [efloraindia:96031] efloraindia, efloraofindia or both in the subject line?
Hi, Shrikant ji, You create a seperate folder containing words like 'indiantreepix@googlegroups.com', then everything related to efloraofindia or efloraindia will come in the same folder. On 23 November 2011 13:24, Dinesh Valke dinesh.va...@gmail.com wrote: Shrikant ji, Recently Garg ji decided to change the name of our group from efloraofindia to efloraindia ... WHY ? ... with the hope that the contents of the group's website at https://sites.google.com/site/efloraofindia/gets indexed by Googlebot, which would thus figure in search results. He has observed that the contents of the website does not feature in search results, though the contents of the group's discussions positively come up. Solution to your difficulty: Your inbox successfully routes all messages associated with the earlier tag eflora*of*india to a particular foilder. -- that is due to your own efforts of creating a filter to route all messages with the word efloraofindia in the subject line to the particular folder. Requesting you to create another similar filter to route all messages with the word efloraindia in the subject line to that particular folder. Hope this helps. Regards. [efloraindia:96059] Fwd: [efloraofindia:79177] Campsis confusion: looking for Campsis grandiflora
Forwarding again for any assistance in the matter please. -- Forwarded message -- From: Gurcharan Singh singh...@gmail.com Date: 2 September 2011 12:18 Subject: [efloraofindia:79177] Campsis confusion: looking for Campsis grandiflora To: efloraofindia indiantreepix@googlegroups.com, Tabish tabi...@gmail.com Genus Campsis has been confusing me a lot for quite some time. Traditionally two species of this genus are recognized as common garden trumpet creepers: *Campsis grandiflora*: leaflets 7-9; glabrous beneath; 4-7 cm long, paler green; calyx 5-lobed to middle; flowers orange to scarlet, corolla tube nearly one and half times as long as calyx, limb nearly 5-6 cm across; capsule 10-15 cm long, obtuse at apex, without beak. *Campsis radicans*: leaflets 9-11, pubescent beneath especially along midreib and main veins, dark green above; calyx shortly 5-lobed, lobes less than 1/3 the tube; flowers orange with scarlet limb, 2-3 times as long as calyx, usually less than 4 cm across; capsule cylindric-oblong, 7-12 cm long, keeled along sutures, beaked at apex. I have been following the specimens of Campsis in Delhi, Kashmir, California and other places and frankly have not been able to locate a true sample of C. gandiflora. Most of the samples found in Kashmir and Delhi which look like C. grandiflora do not bear fruits, flowers fall off when mature and number of leaflets varry from 7-11 (-13). This sterile hybrid is actually C. X tagliabuana, a hybrid between C. radicans and C. grandiflora. Both specimens at at FOI (C. radicans as well as C. grandiflora) i think belong to this hybrid species, which is propagated by cuttings. *I would be extremely happy if any member is able to find and can upload a true specimen of C. grandiflora (7-9 leaflets, leaflets glabrous beneath, calyx divided up to middle, corolla tube 1 1/2 times as long as calyx, more important it produces fruits which are 10-15 cm long and without beak at tip)* * * -- Dr. Gurcharan Singh Retired Associate Professor SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007 Res: 932 Anand Kunj, Vikas Puri, New Delhi-110018. Unfortunately I am unable to find either of the protologues. .. Other information [Source: Wwikipedia] Nepenthes rafflesiana (pronounced /nɨˈpɛnθiːz ræˌfliːziˈɑːnə/, after Stamford Raffles), or Raffles' Pitcher-Plant, is a species of pitcher plant. It has a very wide distribution covering Borneo, Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, and Singapore. N. rafflesiana is extremely variable (second only to N. mirabilis) with numerous forms and varieties described. In Borneo alone, there are at least four distinct varieties. The giant form of this species produces enormous pitchers rivaling those of N. rajah in size. Nepenthes rafflesiana is a very widespread lowland species. It is common in Borneo and parts of the Riau Archipelago, but has a restricted distribution in both Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra. It is only widespread in the southeastern region of the Malay Peninsula, particularly in the state of Johor, where it is relatively abundant. N. rafflesiana has only been recorded from the west coast of Sumatra, between Indrapura and Barus. N. rafflesiana generally occurs in open, sandy, wet areas. It has been recorded from kerangas forest, secondary formations, margins of peat swamp forest, heath forest, and seaside cliffs. It grows at elevations ranging from sea-level to 1200 m or even 1500 m. Most wild populations of Nepenthes, including N. rafflesiana, are endangered due to habitat destruction and (to a lesser extent) poaching. N. rafflesiana is currently listed as a CITES Appendix II plant, so it does have some international trade restrictions (though not an outright ban). Today, most N. rafflesiana plants on the market are propagated by plant tissue culture or other forms of vegetative propagation. When purchasing any plant, especially those protected by CITES, it is important to ask the vendor about the plant's provenance. . It is the onlyNepenthesspecies native to India. The species has a very localised distribution and is rare in the wild. Isolated populations are known to occur in the Jarain area of the Jaintia Hills and the Baghmara area of the Garo Hills, adjacent to the Khasi Hills region of Meghalaya. Nevertheless, N. khasiana exhibits considerable genetic diversity. The Khasi people call the plant tiew-rakot, which means demon-flower or devouring-plant. The Jaintias call it kset phare, which is roughly translated as lidded fly net. The Garo call the plant memang-koksi, which literally means the basket of the devil. Nepentheskhasiana is a protected species, classified as Endangered, and is on CITES Appendix I along with N. rajah. In 2010, The Rare NepenthesCollection was established with the aim of conserving 4 of the most threatenedNepenthesspecies: N. aristolochioides, N. clipeata, N. khasiana, and N. rigidifolia.
