It isn't always easy to compare images. For Strobilanthes discolor I am
looking for a strongly isophyllous plant with one leaf much smaller in each
pair, typically discolorous and slightly oblique. The inflorescence should
be well-branched with capitellate flowers, caducous bracteoles and a
glabrous, somewhat bent blue corolla. The calyx is small, glabrous when
young but somewhat accrescent and later glandular. The only very similar
species (I.e with the glabrous corolla and this kind of inflorescence) is
S. clarkei, which I am not certain is truly distinct but this has a
paniculate inflorescence and an eglandular calyx at maturity. Both the
images sent seem to fit S. discolor but I suppose a third (new) species
could be involved but this is not obvious from the photos I have seen.

John Wood

Can you please confirm about its accurate name please? I read the

It matches best with C. oblongifolius or C.roxburghii in google images

different to me. I am sharing again these photos with you and need your
guidance about the correct accepted name of this tree.

Thank you Dinesh JI

I can only add (about the colour) that the flowers that I have photographed
last about 3-4 days and as they become older the petal color fades.
Then petals fall off one by one.

Fwd: [efloraofindia:310562] MS Dec,2016/13 Strobilanthes sp. for ID

Thanks, Dr. Wood.

Subject: Re: [efloraofindia:258143] MS Dec,2016/13 Strobilanthes sp. for ID
To: J.M. Garg

John Wood

Hi, Dr. Wood.
To me these images appear similar to other images at Strobilanthes discolor

Thank you Mr. Garg !

However, EFN says " Legume flat, linear, 3-5 × 0.4-0.5 cm, hairy, lower
suture crenate, upper suture nearly straight, 4-6-jointed. 2*n* = 22."
whereas in this case it is around 14-15.

...powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:491754-1

since it is 1- foliate and elevation also not matching.

 *About the Book:*

The family Phyllanthaceae is a segregate of the heterogeneous
mega-family Euphorbiaceae, based on phylogenetic considerations, placed in
the order Malpighiales under Eudicotidae, a clade in flowering plants. The
family is distinct in their pollen grains showing three colpi or grooves
paralleling the polar axis and biovulatelocules of ovaries. They also show
bitegmic ovules with non-vascularized inner integument and exarillate
 seeds.

The family is cosmopolitan mainly distributed in humid tropics. The
authors have revised the family as represented in India, Pakistan, Nepal,
Bhutan, Bangladesh, Burma (Myanmar) and Sri Lanka forming a distinct
phytogeographical conglomeration. This work includes 2 subfamilies, 6
tribes, 16 genera and 214 species. The biggest genus is Phyllanthus with 67
species, which includes the medicinally important Amla, the Indian
gooseberry (Phyllanthusemblica). There are several economically and
medicinally important species in the family.

The work provides detailed descriptions of the family, subfamilies,
tribes, genera and species. For easy identification bracketed keys to all
levels of classification are provided. For each species, detailed
nomenclature, typification, description, flowering and fruiting period,
local names, habitat, distribution and specimens examined have been
provided. Photographs of 93 species have been included for quick
identification. A comprehensive bibliography includes citations of
important literature relevant to the area.

The work will be useful for students, teachers and researchers of
