Re: [efloraofindia:344019] Submission of Spergula marina (L.) Besser

2020-02-27 Thread J.M. Garg
Thanks, Yogesh ji.
There seems to be some confusion here about the correct nomenclature.
Catalogue of Life gives two names as below:
*Spergula marina* Dufour ex Steud. being a syn. of *Spergularia rubra *(L.)
J. Presl & C. Presl

with distribution as Jammu & Kashmir (Kashmir), India (Haryana, Uttar
Pradesh), Pakistan (Sind, Baluchistan, Quetta, N.W.Frontier Prov., Swat,
Pakistani Punjab, Rawalpindi).
*Spergula marina* (L.) Bartl. & H. L. Wendl. being a syn. of *Spergularia
marina *(L.) Besser

with
no distribution in our area.

As per keys in Flora of North America
,
stamens are Stamens 6-10 in *Spergularia rubra*
 and
Stamens 1-5 in *Spergularia salina*
 (syn.
of *Spergularia marina *(L.) Besser

)

So we have to go with *Spergularia rubra *(L.) J. Presl & C. Presl

I am not aware about the availability of these plants.
You may check observations and details at *Convolvulus prostratus*

(syn. Canscora decussata), if it is of any help to you.

Subject: Research query related to the plant "shanghupushpi"
 To:

 Dear Sir,
My self is Anuroopa G. Nadh, a Research Scholar from Kerala University
doing PhD in Department of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. My
topic is to analyse ayurvedic formulations to find out a better solution
for Alzheimer's disease. But one of the plant which i selected is
little bit confusing. So I requested help from Dr. E. S. Santhosh
Kumar(TBGRI). He gave me your mail ID. Sir, my plant is known as
"Shanghupushpi" as common name, but based on the literature survey it was
understood that there are 4 varieties for the same plant.
 1) Evolvulus alsinoides

 2) Clitorea ternatea

 3)Convolvulus pluricaulis

 4)Canscora decussata
 [image: image.png]
Sir, I got the first two samples(plants). But didn't get the 3rd and
4th( Convolvulus pluricaulis & Canscora decussata).I went to many
ayurvedic shops and gardens, but what all they selling is the second one,
Clitorea ternatea.Could you please give me your valuable suggestions
on the availability of these species if it is known to you sir???
