Secondly what other trees were there that could produce roundish green

if you are back in kolkata,

salt lake central park has many calophyllum inophyllum trees to the left
of the main walkway keeping the lake to the right

you could check out resemblance to your tree there and the fallen seeds
early in the morning will be still there before the sweepers haul them

seeds are good source of oil (very dense) for oil lamps
that's the ethnobotanic use for the seeds, used to be very popular, but
with ration shop kerosene available just by standing in line, seems to be
fallen off the radar for manufacture in the villages along the ganges

Dear Gurcharan-ji

I have a question on this flower (posting VOF Week 290812_DS_09). You
suggested it as Lonicera obovata- when I search flowersofindia database, it
shows white bell shaped flowers- synonym Blueberry Honeysuckle. Leaves are
also different. And it flowers in May-July.
Am I making any mistake? Please clarify.

Good you pointed out. It is surely not Lonicera, rather Cotoneaster. I
would have gone for Cotoneaster microphyllus, but the flower seems to me

 Neil ji
I think you are right. Dalia ji your using name Rudraprayag (3500 m)
confused me. By the way what is the altitude of Kakragad, as this species
rarely ascend higher than 1800 m. Yes the tree flowers in January-February
when the tree is leafless, and the fruits are expected by April. This may
not happen in Rudraprayag area where flowering season does not start before
 April-May.

Re: [efloraofindia:54682] Please ID the flower - 17112010SN1_DS

2010-11-18 Thread Dalia Set
Oh, I am sorry - yes, for linking ID , the guideline for one image per post
is the best option .
But I think, more than one image of the same plant / flower for better
clarificatin , is allowed.
Thanks

 Good pictures.
As per posting guidelines One picture per mail please...Please try
to provide some more information about the plant also.
At this point I would like to request all members to reply for the first
image i.e. ID80 Mayabati only for its ID for better linking of the ID. and I
would request Dalia ji to post the second image as a separate ID request
where we will post our opinions and this would be followed henceforth : *When
a member sends more than one images please reply comments to the first image
only; to prevent confusion between IDs.* if it is OK from everybody.

Second one from Ramgarh, again on mountain slope - beautiful violet
 flowers from a bush .

 Identification sought from experts.
