Re: [Inkscape-docs] problems on Around the Internet page

(or, if you have time for it, you could fix the images that are listed

on the page you linked on wikimedia, by adding/using the correct.

Oh, I didn't make that link, or add that item. Someone else put it there.

It's just that warning takes up the whole first 2 page-downs there, so I thought
it would be nicer if there was an alternative without it. I looked at what you
suggested
(https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:SVG_created_with_Inkscape) but it
doesn't really contain images - just a few links to various collections. And
the best ones are the last.

Of the few links it contains, this one looks like the best choice, at least to
me: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Valid_SVG_created_with_Inkscape
It looks like this one contains more images though:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Unspec_SVG_created_with_Inkscape

If no one else replies (like maybe whoever entered that item in the first place)
maybe I'll use this one:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Valid_SVG_created_with_Inkscape.

Oh yeah, this is what I was looking for:
https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/=about-screen-contest/ But I couldn't find it.
Is there any way to browse to it via site navigation? Or do you just have to
know it's there?

I also didn't know about this page:
https://inkscape.org/de/community/about-screen-contests/ How can you find it by
navigating the site? It's not in Community menu.

Thanks again,
brynn

Ok, since there haven't been any further comments, I've published the Report
Bugs page with the new text.

Thanks for everyone's help!

All best,

Ok, I had forwarded the email thread to Patrick, and he replied to me privately.
(maybe he isn't subscribed to the Docs list, I'm not sure) We're thinking that
unless Martin has some specific use for the side panel, which I (or we) haven't
been able to imagine yet, we'll just go back to the Normal template.

If no other comments or changes, I'll go ahead and replace the current page with
the new one, using Normal template.

Thanks everyone :-)

Oh ok, I just re-read your first message.

So "action buttons". I'm not sure how that could work.

For the first section (Before you file a new bug report), there could be a
button to search the bug tracker. But there would not be any way to make a
button for the user to test the bug in a new blank file after resetting prefs.
Plus, if we put them into the bug tracker with the first step, users in a hurry
will never come back and finish reading the page.

For the 2nd section (what the report Must contain) - if there were some kind of
button which would collect the Inkscape version and operating system, that might
work. But I don't know of any way to put that into a button. Not unless it
contains some kind of script that queries the user's system. (which would
probably be blocked with a lot of users' security) And of course there's no way
to "buttonize" writing the description.

Is there something I'm not seeing, still?

Thanks,
brynn

Hi Brynn,

An example page would be the sponsors page:

https://inkscape.org/en/support-us/sponsors/

Well I see how to make such a page, but I don't know what it's
supposed to look
like. Do you know any pages which use that template? Maybe seeing
one will
give me an idea what to do.

If there's a chance that changing the template will cause a problem,
I could
just create another page, and move the contents over.

Thanks,
brynn

Sorry, that intermediate email that's quoted below never made it into
my
inbox...

A page with a side panel can be selected when you select a new
template
for the page.

Page > Templates > Side Bar Page

I don't know what Martin meant to put into the side bar.

Might be that changing the template will loose the contents again
(changing back might restore it).

[Inkscape-docs] problems on Around the Internet page

2018-08-08 Thread brynn

Hi Friends,
Per the commitment I've made to regularly review the Around the Internet
page (because it's jam-packed with 3rd party links); my current review finds a
couple of problems I'm not sure how to handle. So I need some input from the
community on these. https://inkscape.org/en/community/inkscape-around-internet/

   In the Multiple-Artist Collections section:

1 -- Wikimedia Commons - Category:Created with Inkscape
(http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Created_with_Inkscape)

The page which is linked is showing a red-colored sort of warning about
how it's categorized. Half of the page is giving info about it. I'm not very
familiar with how the Wikipedia/Wikimedia pages are created or edited, so if
this is a problem which needs to be fixed, I can't do it. Maybe it's ok the way
it is, but I thought I would ask those who know more than I do about it.

As best as I can understand the warning info, it sounds like the page
might need some significant attention. Questions:

a -- Is this something that should be added to the Community To-Do List page
on the Inkscape website?

b -- Or maybe it's a quick fix which someone could do in the near future?
c -- Or should the item just be deleted from Around the Internet page?
d -- Or is there a better link to access the Inkscape images on Wikimedia?

2 -- Museum of Sodipodi and Inkscape About Screens
(http://gould.cx/ted/ink-about/)

The linked page gives a 404 Not Found error. Just one question:

a -- I guess I've seen a lot of the About screen contest images in the
gallery. Is this the best URL for finding them?
https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/?q=about Or is there a better one?

Thanks for comments or suggestions :-)

All best,
brynn
