[IRCA] UNID Need Help Please.....1170 FAITH RADIO....Southern Gospel

2009-11-02 Thread Robert S.Ross VA3SW

Hi Guys:

I fell asleep listening to a Southern Gospel Station UNDER WWVA at
0224 EDT..I woke up @ 0342 EDT to the same Station...Only a little
Stronger and got a SLOGAN ID that I need help with.
The Station Gave an ID as FAITH RADIO. The ONLY inference to this
Slogan I can find on the Web is for a FLORIDA Station WKFL Bushnell,
FLORIDA. Only problem is that the Station is currently shown as SILENT.

The Station heard seemed to be from the SOUTH of me???

Does anyone know if this station has been Re-Activated..the FCC Site
shows it as SILENT. Could they be testing???

Or...is there someone else on the Frequency using FAITH RADIO

Any and all help on this appreciated.

Heard on the SONY SRF-T615 UltralightBAREFOOT.

Re: [IRCA] Perseus receiver

2009-11-02 Thread BARRY DAVIES
Hello Mike
The PERSEUS is the tops. I think the future is better PERSEUS type receivers. I
cannot see manufactures, that don't go this way, still been in business in 2
years! The BIG problem with PERSEUS is finding the time to listen hi! I guess
if you have got a dedicated laptop with a 500GB hard drive you can save some
Wav. files. You can then spend time scrutinising them in the quiet DX summer
months?

Hi Everyone:

Ten days ago I placed an order for a Perseus receiver. Not a sudden decision by
any means as I had been thinking of getting one for almost a year. The sudden
death of my old Dell computer was the catalyst I needed. It was approaching
it's 9th birthday, well past it's best before date and not worth repairing so a
replacement suitable for driving a SDR was found. The Perseus arrived here last
Friday and I've spent the past two evenings learning something about it. All I
can say so far is Wow! this machine is incredible. Yesterday evening I could
see many TA's across the whole band, admittedly most of them were just
carriers, but to actually see them is beyond belief. Even on the longwave
beacons I could actually read the Morse code IDs being transmitted on the
screen. Yet months ago when I first read about this waterfall display in the
users manual I thought I will never use that and now I'm thinking I will use
it all the time. It's gonna take a while
 before I learn everyt!
hing it can do, but it's gonna be a fun time.

The Revolution Boston talk programming is leased time, running 6AM-6PM

programmers, including Lowell Devils AHL hockey at night.

The official WWZN website is still 1510thezone.com, though I don't think
they use the Zone slogan on the air anymore. The revolutionboston.com
site belongs to Jeff Santos, the programmer who leases the daytime hours.

WKFL may or may not be silent, but any listing showing them as Faith Radio
is old and has to do with the old owner, Walker Broadcasting (Keith Walker,
not related to me). WKFL is owned by TalkNSports and when it IS on the air,
it runs Sporting News Radio. It is usually pretty good about signing off and
signing on at the proper times.

The person who owns WKFL is from the town I currently work in and is good
friends with my best friend, so if something had ahnged, I'd probably find
out.

What was the very high power top forty station in Europe back
in the sixties, was that Radio Veronica?

My old memory isn't doing so well at recalling much from

When I was in Iceland 1955-56 the favorite pop music station was Radio
Luxembourg...on 1439 at the time (I think)Of course there was also
the local 250 watt AFRS station-TFK 1484-from Keflavik. They played
lots of pop/rock too. Rock was just getting started then, lots of Elvis

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 2 Nov 2009

2009-11-02 Thread Nigel Pimblett
I definite improvement this morning, though it was the transpolar
path that seemed favoured. CRI from Urumqi on 1521 was doing
consistently well, and the CNR1 signal on 1134 was equal in quality to
the best of the Japanese, with a solid signal for most of the time I
listened. 1107 Urumqi put in a brief appearance around 1349, but didn't
stick around like it did back on Oct 21. No Sri Lanka today though.
Otherwise things waited until near sunrise to peak. The big
Japanese were in general better than they've been for several days. 972
from Korea was missing until near 1400 when it appeared (about the same
time as its // on 1134 appeared under CNR. Similarly VOA on 1575
didn't show until around 1400.The lower band seemed supressed this
morning, unlike the last while, with even Japan on 594 barely making it
through the IBOC noise.

[IRCA] TP for 2 Nov from Victoria, BC

2009-11-02 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
This morning didn't show much promise here until about 1430UT; at 1400UT, only
JOIB-747 was delivering really readable audio. But sunrise enhancement
delivered a few interesting snippets, including Mayak-576 as the most powerful
signal on the band for a short time at 1436, and HLKF on 567; I have to check my
logs as I can't believe it's new here, but it's certainly not usual.

Darn good audio (at least at peaks):

747 JOIB at 1402UT

576 Mayak at 1432UT

594 JOAK
774 JOUB
828 JOBB
(the above 3 not until around 1430UT)

972 HLCA not until later

reasonable audio at times during the period (though often battling w/splash or
noise):

558 HLQH //603, both at this level later
639 CNR-1 //5030, very little if any delay on 639
711 HLKA at 1447, briefly, KK talk
873 N. Korea //2850 at 1428, but JOGB later
918 CC talk at 1453, but then faded slightly to expose echoing 2nd (3rd?)
transmitter
936 likely Anhui at 1436
945 CNR-1 //5030 with delay, at 1440UT, quite good at peaks
963 briefly at 1453
1017 CRI, //5965 at 1456
1134 KBS, vocal mx, briefly better than //972 at 1449
1143 Taiwan Fisheries //738 which was same level at 1435UT
1215 CC talk by woman at 1430, but faded before // could be established

not so reasonable audio, occasional words in splash or noise:

567 JOIK //567, but at by 1451, it faded down below HLKF //711 w/KK talk by man
621 seemed to be China

Burbles in the splatter and noise:

279 presumed Rossii
594, something else replacing JOAK as it faded down at 1458, but pretty much all
gone at 1500.
603 growl earlier, sounded like a jammer?
666 seemed //594, so JOBK
702 not //N. Korea or with NHK-2?
855 hum, but talk not // N. Korea
864 with big carrier
963 two stations w/SAH, earlier
1035 bubble jammer and ?
1053 later
1188 later
1242
1287

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

1008, 1098 Asia, 1377 (this has been strong recently w/no audio), 1566

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] Dozen new added to the ULR logbook

Over the past three days, I have added twelve to the new ULR logbook
(not always updated). I know that not everyone keeps one but because I
was trying to add to it, I was at the dials. As such, I added two new
to the main logbook. Some of the more interesting additions to the ULR
book are WTEM 980 DC, WPEO 1020 IL, WGNZ 1110 OH, WLPO 1220 IL, WILB
1060 OH and KMXA 1090 CO. The last two were new to the main book. I
have 185 ULR and 785 in the overall domestic (US and Canada) logbook.
Up until the ULR craze hit, I didn't keep a log of anything but US and
Canadina stations on MW.

1060 WILB OH Canton 10-31 0645 Fair in WFNI IBOC w/religious
programming. Mentioned a 930 station too (Elyria?). New! DH-IN

1090 KMXA CO Aurora 11-01 0145 VP mixing w/IBOC (Indy and Cleveland?)

Its a pity that you didn't stay a few days before joining the ship.
anyway got the cast off the leg. Gee no wonder the ankle was broken a
real mess

bruising and swelling no wonder it hurts...

Its the famous Melbourne Cup horse race today as your heading towards
Melbourne.

My tip is Roman Emperor.

Yes Symban 2368.5 off air..as interference problems only about 2 miles
from the

airport!

If you and your wife come back, wil lbe pleased to host a get together
same for other overseas Dxers..Just need say 3 to 4 weeks notice to
organise

everyone...

Well Walt enjoyyou have the weather for it!

Its going to be 35 degrees C today as you sail down the coast...glad that cast
is off..

Regards Johno

We'll be pulling up anchor shortly and heading to Melbourne. I'd
like to thank John and Tony and others in the Sydney area for
responding for my request to meet or say hello to DXers wherever I've
travelled. I have found this to be a fun and very rewarding
experience having met DXers in Italy and Ukraine to name just a
couple of places. These people have remained close friends to this
very day.

Anyway, as luck would have it, we arrived on a lovely Sunday morning
in Sydney (temperatures up to 30 degree C). After getting through
all of the formalities, and after a city bus tour, we arrived at our
ship (the Amsterdam) at noon. I was able to call John and had a very
nice chat (while at Bondi beach). As it turned out, most of the
DXers in the Sydney area live quite far away from the central core
where our ship was moored. I hadn't realized how huge Sydney
actually is both by population (4.6 million) and by size (not sure
about that, but it's very spread out!). Being a Sunday, parking is a
real problem, so we weren't able to meet. Perhaps next time. From
here, I've had contact with DXers in New Zealand, and Honolulu, so
I'm confident that I'll be able to meet up with some of them at those
locations.

I do recommend Sydney as a very world class city, and truly lovely
(and this is coming from someone living on the WCNA...so already
difficult to impress). Gorgeous views from all directions, and
wonderful landmarks like the Opera House and bridge! All in all a
good start to the vacation.

Radio wise, I did turn on the radio very briefly yesterday to confirm
nothing on Radio Symban's 2368.5 kHz channel. Also found that my
Eton e100 doesn't want to tune past 1620! Strange, as I was hoping
to explore the x-band a little more while here. I do have a Grundig
Aviator G6, though, courtesy of Colin Newell, so I'll have to fire
that one up (it's with me for Radio St. Helena Day later this month).
Cheers, mates! Walt Salmaniw, onboard the
Amsterdam, Sydney Harbour, Australia.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA TP's for 11-2... Anemic at Best

2009-11-02 Thread D1028Gary
Hello All,

Although TP signals in general have been rather poor around sunrise
lately, at least there were a few pleasant surprises like Chinese and Korean
co-channel stations showing up on frequencies like 558, 585 and 594 kHz
because
of the weakened Japanese signals. Unfortunately, this morning there was
very little co-channel action-- just a trace of something else on 594 khz
around 1445, as JOAK' s signal was down in the noise.

Efforts were made to check for Nick's Chinese co-channels on 774 and 828,
but this morning a DXer here would have been lucky just to find the NHK
stations at good levels. Sunrise brought very little improvement in TP
signals, and in comparison to a 0900 band check (after local midnight) during
the
Asian sunset, this morning's TP propagation was paltry indeed. If one has
the option, maybe it's time to shift the TP listening time about 5 hours
earlier. Despite the awkward early morning hour (which shouldn't bother
Perseus owners), many strong TP signals show up around 0900 here in November--
including the 594, 747 and 972 kHz powerhouses (which were received after
midnight on a stock Sony SRF-59 in November of 2007, to start off the
Ultralight craze).

2009-11-02 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
WCTF is owned by Family Radio and to my knowledge, they do NOT lease any of
their stations out.

Krazy Faith Radio was a pirate station on 105.3 and may be buying time on a
WSGG 89.3 and it's network, http://radioavivamiento.intuitwebsites.com/

Re: [IRCA] Thanks to the Sydney DXers

2009-11-02 Thread D1028Gary
Hello Walt,

Greetings from western Washington, where we are about to enter our 6-month
rainy season (to which I'm sure Victoria DXers can relate).

In reference to your modified Eton E100, the reason why the radio will not
tune higher than 1620 kHz is because you have selected 9 kHz tuning steps
(and the radio assumes that you are in an area without any stations on the
X-band).

Correcting this problem is very easy, and simply involves shifting back to
10 kHz tuning steps. With the radio off, press and release the SYS SET
button (this is the same as the ENTER button, when you are directly
inputting a frequency). Within three seconds, press 1 and 0 on the
keypad,
then again press the ENTER button. The display will then indicate 10 khz,
to confirm that you have selected 10 kHz tuning steps. When you turn the
E100 back on, it will then tune from 520-1710 kHz in 10 kHz steps.

Even with 10 kHz tuning steps selected, you may still enter the 9 kHz-split
frequencies on the keypad, or tune them in manually with the tuning knob.
During all my DXing with the E100 Sliders, I would always leave the radio
in the 10 kHz step system, since you can tune in the entire 520-1710 kHz
range wherever you go.

73 and Have Fun,
Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA)

In a message dated 11/1/2009 9:29:28 P.M. Pacific Standard Time,

We'll be pulling up anchor shortly and heading to Melbourne. I'd like
to thank John and Tony and others in the Sydney area for responding for
my request to meet or say hello to DXers wherever I've travelled. I
have found this to be a fun and very rewarding experience having met
DXers in Italy and Ukraine to name just a couple of places. These
people have remained close friends to this very day.

Anyway, as luck would have it, we arrived on a lovely Sunday morning in
Sydney (temperatures up to 30 degree C). After getting through all of
the formalities, and after a city bus tour, we arrived at our ship (the
Amsterdam) at noon. I was able to call John and had a very nice chat
(while at Bondi beach). As it turned out, most of the DXers in the
Sydney area live quite far away from the central core where our ship was
moored. I hadn't realized how huge Sydney actually is both by
population (4.6 million) and by size (not sure about that, but it's very
spread out!). Being a Sunday, parking is a real problem, so we weren't
able to meet. Perhaps next time. From here, I've had contact with
DXers in New Zealand, and Honolulu, so I'm confident that I'll be able
to meet up with some of them at those locations.

I do recommend Sydney as a very world class city, and truly lovely (and
this is coming from someone living on the WCNA...so already difficult to
impress). Gorgeous views from all directions, and wonderful landmarks
like the Opera House and bridge! All in all a good start to the vacation.

Radio wise, I did turn on the radio very briefly yesterday to confirm
nothing on Radio Symban's 2368.5 kHz channel. Also found that my Eton
e100 doesn't want to tune past 1620! Strange, as I was hoping to
explore the x-band a little more while here. I do have a Grundig
Aviator G6, though, courtesy of Colin Newell, so I'll have to fire that
one up (it's with me for Radio St. Helena Day later this month).
Cheers, mates! Walt Salmaniw, onboard the Amsterdam, Sydney
Harbour, Australia.

[IRCA] not much of A taste of TA in BC

Much like last night, a small-scale TA opening happening here. Spain, for

I haven't been listening continuously , but the only one I've had any audio
from has been 1215, and that at barely recognizable level for short periods
(i.e. the talk has an English inflection to it).

Otherwise, just carriers, many weak, on the usual suspects.

best wishes,

[IRCA] software suggestion?

2009-11-02 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
One thing I find happening too frequently when I'm DXing is that I will miss
the top of the hour, being intent, it seems, on doing something that could be
done at any other time, like checking a parallel.

Obviously, I need a timer of some sort, and a PC utilility would fill the bill,
given that I'm already using the laptop to tune the radios, record audio etc
etc. The woods are full of freeware PC utilities that will warn you when
time is up, or in my case indicate that the top of the hour is nigh. Has
anyone else investigated such timers, and if so, what do you suggest? I don't
mind paying for something that is worthwhile, as freeware sometimes means
spyware

Thanks.

Nick

Re: [IRCA] 1510 Boston and what about-

2009-11-02 Thread Donald K. Kaskey

Bill,

I checked my 1955-56 logs from Iceland. Radio Luxembourg was on 1439
kHz. They boomed into Keflavik. One of the very best signals from
Europe. They also played pop/rock as you noted. Rock music was just
catching on at that time so Radio Lux was very popular.

Radio Luxembourg on 208 Meters Medium Wave was indeed on the air in the sixties

of 208 is in KHz but I think it is around 1410.Bill in BC
