Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-12
Hi Bruce, Thanks for listening to the 729 kHz MP3. The lady is speaking so quickly that it's tough to be 100% sure of the language, and even though my first inclination was Korean, there was no Pyongyang BS parallel to check at the time. You could be right about possible Japanese. The 729 kHz clip was only a short portion of the 2-minute MP3, and I'll review it again for more clues, and send you the whole clip if you like. Last October I had China dominant and a presumed NK on this frequency during a rare 729 kHz strong signal, and even though I've seen many reports of Japan on 729, it's never been heard here. In any case, it's kind of a moral victory for me to get either station here in Puyallup on Ultralights, with the CHMJ splatter blanketing the frequency 99% of the time here :-) I'll be happy either way! 73, Gary In a message dated 9/12/2010 8:00:00 P.M. Derek, stunning reception! You are very lucky. First 531 is JJ, not Tagalog. We usually hear the NHK1 station there. 657 is fabulous. Usually heard with a buzzy transmitter or jamming, but pretty clear today. 792 was difficult for me, but I see that Bruce figured it out. 837 is a mish-mash, but I do believe that the predominant station is Radio Sonshine. Re: [IRCA] TPDX sept 12 2010
Hi Derek, Wow, some great TP recordings there! Want to trade your cliff-top location next to the beach for an Ultralight radio? :-) Your 531 kHz recording is definitely Japanese, presumably from the usual dominant station on the frequency-- JOQG in Morioka. (I lived in Japan for 2 years as a high school student, so can recognize the language.) The 648 CC is most likely the Voice of Russia, which has a Chinese program running from 1300-1400 currently. Great recording of 657-Pyongyang! The buzzing refers to this station's typical SSB carrier, which usually has rough edges on it. The 792 recording was tougher to decipher, but China and Thailand are the usual suspects here. 891 kHz is usually JOHK here in this DU-dead zone, but Thailand shows up on occasion. Closer to the beach, you probably have 5AN (and/or 4TAB) in the mix this time of year. Keep up the great work, Derek! 73, Gary ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

[IRCA] 940 WGRP K-Love + WELD 690 xmtr work
Just heard K-Love on 940, and suspect WGRP in transition as it's been sold, being resold... http://ohiomediawatch.wordpress.com I wonder if the new owner will limit it to two watts at night. WELD this eve announced it is in midst of xmtr work, could last 50 or 60 days (I had trouble hearing the number), and simulcasting on FM during this time. Music ***seemed*** a little more AC'ish than what it usually plays. I haven't been hearing them much at night (they're licenced for 14 watts so I shouldn't) these last few days and so given this anct wonder if this blessing is only temporary or if their longtime huge nightime signal was a sign of overall xmtr trouble and the fix will resolve all this. It's tempting to call them and (in a friendly manner of course) see what's up. Unless someone here knows... SSS cx seem tame tonight. [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-12
Hello All, The Asiatic conditions were generally good here this morning, with the first reception of the season for 675-VOV (Vietnam), and a couple of unusual stations on 729 and 1053 kHz. The "big gun" Japanese and the Chinese stations were down a little in strength, but North Korea seemed stronger than ever. Like Dennis, I noticed the unusually strong signal on 729 kHz and made a recording through the 730 Vancouver splatter, which had the typical Pyongyang BS shouting Korean YL under the splatter (ink below). Although that station was heard here once before last October mixing with China, it's rare for anything to show up on 729 kHz here, and when something does, it's usually China. The Chinese stations generally did not manage much audio this morning, and stayed in the carrier category except for 756-CNR1 and 1377. There was another mystery station on 1053 kHz under the Jammer-- maybe the same one Dennis heard. An MP3 seemed to have shouted Korean (like on 729 kHz), but nothing definite could be made out. In summary, it was a pretty interesting morning! The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5" loopstick) inductively coupled to a 7.5' PVC tuned passive loop in the back yard: 594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Fair to good with Japanese conversation at 1305 603 HLSA (presumed) Weak Korean audio in and out around 1307 639 CNR1 (presumed) Stayed at carrier level throughout morning 648 VOR Razdolnoye, Russia Weak Chinese audio above noise level, 1309 657 Pyongyang N. [IRCA] Alberta TPs for 12 Sep 2010
Things were down a bit from yesterday. The big guns from Japan had audio on 594, 693, 747, 774, but no 567 today. Korea on 1566 was pretty good but 972 didn't make it today. VOA 1575 was a no show, but on the plus side, did note CNR on 1593 for my first Chinese of the season. No audio from DU today, but the X-band did have a number of DU carriers. Also noted a surprsingly strong carrier on 1602, given that nothing of any power is there. 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, Alberta ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
