Re: [IRCA] 560 Prince Rupert going to FM
FM makes a lot of sense there, Bill. There is NO population at all inland of Prince Rupert until you hit Terrace, which is 2 hours by highway inland along the Skeena River. 560 doesn't reach there. You have very tall coastal mountains blocking any propagation that way. The city and surroundings would likely be well served by FM. As for Haida Gwaii, they might have more of a problem now.Walt On Wed, Jan 12, 2011 at 10:28 PM, bill kral jwk...@yahoo.ca wrote: Has the operator of this station figured out whether 160 FM watts will cover the same area as the coverage area of the AM signal.I don't know what the topography around Prince Rupert is like but for people travelling inland from the coast I would say that with peanut power like that on FM they'll be turning their radios off a lot sooner than they do now during daylight hours.Bill in BC ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Re: [IRCA] Sweep tone/Morse Code CD
Patrick, I’ll be happy to produce Morse Code ID’s and sweep tones in various combinations to meet your needs. I’ve got a library of stuff that has been very successful in the past. The sweep tones typically outperform Morse Code by a significant margin. We’ve proven this through on the air tests, and also using test subjects where we mixed sweep tones and Morse in with typical background noise from a channel in controlled steps. Sweeps could be successfully detected at much lower levels (db wise) than Morse alone. “Gimmick” sounds like bells, whistles, etc. were much less successful. The only exception is the “off hook” signal that your telephone makes. This sound was as effective as sweep tones. Let me know what you need. 73, Les Rayburn, N1LF Les Rayburn, Director High Noon Film 130 1st Avenue West Alabaster, AL 35007-8536 (205) 621-7500 (205) 621-7505 FAX (205) 253-4867 CELL http://www.highnoonfilm.com From: Patrick Martin Sent: Wednesday, January 12, 2011 7:10 PM To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club ofAmerica Subject: Re: [IRCA] Sweep tone/Morse Code CD Thank you. Re: [IRCA] Sweep tone/Morse Code CD
yes, that's something you can ask your IRCA NRC DX Test Committee ... Now, what I'd really appreciate would be a small list of volunteers I know I can turn to for audio files with morse code, sweep tones, marching band music, sirens, or whatever the testing station might want. We have one volunteer at the moment but they're not always available. Volunteers? That's what I like about these DX lists. Even before I ask, volunteers beat down my door. Consider yourself on the DX Test Committee's Audio Production subcommitee, Colin, thanks! Re: [IRCA] Snow in Hawaii
I dunno. I think the term 'climate change' is more accurate. A few weeks ago Iqaliut in Nunavut was above freezing, with rain, after Christmas. Beat the old record by 6oC thereabouts. Warmer than Toronto that day. I think it's hard to take one or a handful of weather events and make a generalization about a pattern or even a very deep trend. What's more poignant to me are when trends take root and cause apparent lasting effects, such as the relatively recent onset of substantial melting of arctic/polar ice. But, no, climate change does not mean there won't be wacky cold spells here and there. Now, to get back to the topic of DX, what the heck has happened to auroral conditions? Will we ever see them again? ;-) ;-) - Original Message - From: w7...@juno.com To: irca@hard-core-dx.com Sent: Wednesday, January 12, 2011 8:44 PM Subject: Re: [IRCA] Snow in Hawaii Is this from Global warming Mark W7MEM 2' of snow in North Idaho -- Original Message -- From: Colin Newell c...@islandnet.com To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America irca@hard-core-dx.com Subject: [IRCA] Snow in Hawaii Date: Wed, 12 Jan 2011 17:39:02 -0800 For those curious, I did see snow on Mauna Kea 2 days ago.
