Re: [IRCA] TA's Fri Sept 11

2015-09-11 Thread Mike Stonebridge
Thanks for the heads up Don. I never bothered to check to night as the previous
two were a complete bust. Even power house KSL was barely above the noise
floor. Some domestic frequencies were even devoid of carriers.

Had a recording going thru the TOH.. Add 1116 1125 1305 to the previously
mentioned, just past 0405 ut. Particularly good 1341 with BBC news,
1577 in French and 1089 Sports. And regulars 1377 1422 1215 also exc.

Mike Stonebridge I hope you're able to catch this opening! Surprised to
hear much after the A/K have been so high... usually takes a lot longer to
settle down.

DX does not show up in Puyallup in fear of judgement from the master.

When I lived in Oak Bay I could not receive Korea on 1566khz while
it was melting the front ends of Walt's and Nick's receivers...

Now I know what they are talking about.

Thank said, I have a YouTube video of picking up Finland on 963 Khz
armchair copy on an Eton E1 with only the whip antenna in use.

Hoping this season will be better.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-11

2015-09-11 Thread d1028gary
Hello All,

Puyallup continued to be in the shadow of any transoceanic DX this morning as
the solar tantrum continued to wipe out any TP audio to this lackluster
location. The weakest of heterodynes showed up on 738 (from the South Pacific)
and 1566 (Asia) around 1305 but they didn't stick around for long. So it's back
to the Rockwork 4 DXpedition file review...

Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-11: Victoria perspective

2015-09-11 Thread Walter Salmaniw
Hi, Gary. Here's the perspective from Victoria:

I monitored from 12:45 until now (13:56). Today, my observations did not
sync all that well with Nick's DX Fishbarrel. This is the first time I
noticed a difference all week. There was promise across the band,
including 1566 initially, but this rapidly dropped away, with most
activity, again all DU and seemingly Australia, up to the 1116. Overall,
I'd say that Nick's Fishbarrel showed things in a better light than my
QTH. Also, often my ALA 100 aimed SW/NW outperformed my FLG 100 W directed
large corner fed loop, especially on the lower part of the band. It was
much quieter. So, here are some of my observations:

530: 531 only a fairly weak carrier, but WA State Ferries Port Townsend
coming in very well.

540: Looking for the 40w Uclulet CBC transmitter, but only CBK Regina at
good level. Only 4 deg now, but up to 28 deg tomorrow.

576: 2RN with EZL music at good level at 13:34, but gone 2 minutes later.

594: 3WV Horsham fair level at 13:07

612: 4QR Brisbane. Pretty much armchair at 13:10. Same at 13:31, and
still going strong at 13:53. Not really syncing well with Nick's DX
Fishbarrel. Last to go this morning.

702: ABC Brisbane. Good reception at 13:05 with ABC news ID.

738: Off and on, but modulation always too low for me to be certain of
who. I'm blasted by splatter from 730 Vancouver making reception difficult.

774: DU only this morning, off and on.

891: Fair reception at 13:28 with music.

73 from Victoria!

[IRCA] TP 11 Sep Victoria version

2015-09-11 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
This morning was still DU here, though with a little high band
activity as well to compensate for slightly poorer strength
signals. 2BL-702 took the honors today.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

702 2BL Sports report by woman //612 and better strength,
1304UT. Weather forecasts for the major cities in Australia,
followed by "you're listening to ABC news"

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

612 4QR, man in DU English at this level as early as 1226UT; Gordon
Lightfoot song 1308UT, obviously recognizing their Canadian listeners.
738 Tahiti likely. Afro pop vocals 1320UT. Something interfering
slightly, but not able to get it clearly enough for a parallel

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

1116 4BC man in DU English 1319UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

576 2NR man talking slowly 1307UT, noted //846 at 1329UT
594 3WV man talking //774 1303UT; these were not parallel with 4QR or
2BL at this time

774 3LO man talking //594 at 1303UT
828 3GI 6 pips at 1300UT, not too much else.
846 2NR slow vocal music //576 1329UT
855 4QO/4QB vocal pop music //774 1307UT
1539 woman talking 1306UT
1566 man talking, sounded like DU English 1256UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

 675 819 1332 1413 1503 1611 1629

best wishes,

Nick

I've been monitoring an open carrier on 702 for the last half hour which
doesn't seem to be TA related, given the band conditions here at the

transmitter somewhere? Anyone else?

Re: [IRCA] [ABDX] 702 open carrier now?

2015-09-11 Thread neilkaz
I was getting this last night and couldn't find a related spur and don't think
it is TA. My Perseus isn't as well calibrated as yours but it seemed right on
702. No idea. 73 KAZ

KSLL 1080 Price, Utah, is supposed to sign off @ sunset but I'm hearing them
@ 0145 ELT 9/11 using the slogan "Classic Rock 105" &, of course, playing
classic rock from what sounds like a satellite service.
They have an FM translator on 104.9 which should be the only thing on now.
They are fading up & down here in Spokane but at times they're strong. They
use the slogan "The Castle" at times, too. I hope you can catch them.

Nothing that much at sunset (0210 UT ish) , usual hets but just rechecked
at 0310 and can see audio all over the Perseus screen. 1377 1386 1422
 and
1413. Seems to have faded or maybe I got here just in time to miss
 it...
1413 sounded like British English for the moment in tuned thru, but seems
 to be not returning...

So far this season 1377 seems like the first one in, with 1215 and 1422
 close up there.

[IRCA] September 11 DU's - West coast of Canada

2015-09-11 Thread R. Colin Newell
Another all DU all the time morning in Victoria on the West coast of
Canada...

A more formal real time report this AM

1301 - 612 Khz - EE assume 4QR pretty much holding the fort again as the
signal of the morning -
intelligible 99% of the time (S7 to S9 for those interested...)

1304 - 774 Khz - Endless EE Chatter by OM - Assume Melbourne

1305 - 855 Khz YL in an uni language

1306 - 891 khz - A pretty reliable 2nd choice in terms of this mornings
winnings - but often hassled by 2 or 3 other
stations on the channel

1308 - 594 Khz - OM Chat in EE in and out at regular intervals

1311 - 603 Khz - pretty good signals here entire session but only hints of
audio getting through

1317 - 1152 Khz - on what was a pretty solid low band only event there were
go carriers up to 1611
but no audio to speak of. 1152 Khz was pretty much the upper limit for
upper band audio

1322 - 702 Khz - usually good signals but ravaged by 690 CBC splash - OM EE
Talk

1327 - 774 Khz - OM EE Talk

Stayed at it until 1333 and nothing much changed -

With thanks to Nick Hall-Patches Fish Barrel - which had a couple of
outages...
that pretty much reflected the scene more or less - as Nick pointed out,
his system is less generous
between 531 and 603 and this was apparent with slightly hotter signals at
my receiving antenna.

Antenna - N/NW Flag 25' high ~ and 47' long / 914 ohm termination /
Wellbrook FLG100 Amp. DRAKE R8
Receiver - 2 AOR 7030+ with Wellbrook ALA100M and 3 meter (diameter) loop
6' up an apple tree!
