Re: [IRCA] WKJV 1380 NC Possibly on Day Power

2015-11-11 Thread Les Rayburn
Wanted to thank Bill Dvorak for posting this last night to both the IRCA
and NRC list.

WKJV was an easy catch on my bedside portable last night, running a long
list of local religious events such as revivals, gospel singing events,
etc. It does appear that they had an automation issue, and were on day
power/pattern. I tuned in around 3:15 AM so the problem seems to have
lasted overnight. Thank you for helping to put a new one in my log, Bill.

My "DXing" hobby has become increasingly limited to these kinds of
opportunities, as the pressures of work and life continue to mount.
Weeks will go by without a single session at the dials, or even time to
review SDR recordings.

These "real time" alerts allow me to quickly look for new stations when
posted, often resulting in new receptions. Very grateful to Bill and
others who post them. Please do continue to share these unusual
conditions, automation issues, etc. on the lists. Without them, I'd
barely participate in the hobby at all.

At 2200 CST on Tuesday night 11/10, I am hearing WKJV Asheville NC
dominating a very crowded 1380 kHz. This station has a day power of 25 kw

from my QTH in Madison WI. This is a new station for me. Currently the
station is carrying "The Gospel Hour" with Dr. Oliver B. Green.

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 11 November 2015

2015-11-11 Thread Nigel Pimblett
There was little risk of a detailed (or otherwise) DU report this
morning (from Alberta at least), as this morning proved to be the most
dreary among a lot of recent dreary TP mornings. Only Tahiti provided
any audio, at a so-so level now and again. Otherwise, even decent
carriers were sparse.
Luckily the same solar mischief responsible for the recent lack of
TPs has had a postive impact too, providing some great sunrise skip
reception to the southern US.

[IRCA] Brief TP report from Arizona, November 11th

2015-11-11 Thread Brian Rachford
I did a long SDR recording overnight and on first check, there was
occasional weak audio from 774-JOUB during the 12UT and 13UT hours (local
sunrise just before 14UT) and marginal to weak audio from at least 693,
747, and the Korean jammer on 1053. Presumably my Great Circle path to the
area is far enough south to have not been too affected by the geomagnetic
activity. This was with my 7'x24' Conti superloop pointed 340 degrees,
about 20 degrees north of the path.

Re: [IRCA] Denver radio change

2015-11-11 Thread Nick Hall-Patch

Hi Rick,

If you hear traffic info on 730 in English, it will likely be
Vancouver...http://www.am730.ca/ (what is it about 730 in Canada?)

They've been at it a number of years now, so it seems to be something
that's needed. I've certainly used it in Vancouver, sometimes
vowing to use a bicycle next time.

best wishes,

Nick

WBBM's "traffic and weather together on the 8s"). Granted, WBBM,
along with WCBS, KYW, WWJ, and KNX, all of which are other all-news
stations, are CBS-owned, so it would take an ownership change for
that to happen. But surely CBS could swoop in (if it felt like
doing so), buy KLZ, KHOW, or KOA, and convert it to all-news. Three
poli-talk stations in a market of Denver's size is, IMO, overkill.

As you may know KBUD (originally KDCO) has only been on the air for
about a year. The current owner is the third owner. The second
owner sold it very quickly after buying it from the original owner,
and I mean within a matter of days. I think it was the second owner
who applied for the 5 KW day upgrade, so the current owner may or
may not follow through with it. Since he sold the translator, I
would say it's a safe bet that he is now trying to sell the
AM. It's probably just as safe a bet that the AM will end up being
sports, religion, or Mexican, none of which are needed in this
market. What this market could use is an all traffic station since
the traffic is so bad here.

In case nobody saw it, Salem just bought KDDZ 1690 from Disney, but
so far it still has R. Disney on it. There are already so many
religious stations in this market, it's hard to believe another one
is coming shortly. One has to wonder how they all survive.

And as I have said before, I still find it stupid that a 50 KW 1-A
thinks they need a piddling little 250 watt FM translator. Oh well...

Never heard here in IL. I'd hoped 990 watts ND days could make it by
sunset skip (Dir Night pattern is bad to me) but it never did. They
have a CP for 5 kW ND days. If that is the plan, I assume someone
might make a viable station out of them?

application has been filed to sell the translator to KOA, so it

doubt that many stoners would listen to AM, so look for it to be

[IRCA] TP 11 Nov Victoria version

The sun rose this morning but the ionosphere set. DU's earlier however.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

3LO was almost there, if it hadn't been for the 770 splash

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

774 3LO man in DU English as early as 1302UT, and hung around at
various levels for the following hour. //702 and 612.

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

738 rhythmic pop mx, not // ABC so assumed Tahiti at 1323UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

702 2BL man talking DU English 1301UT, //774

1116 4BC? man and woman talking, DU English inflection 1301UT, and as

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA TP Carriers for 11-11

2015-11-11 Thread d1028gary
Neither the Asian sunset nor the west coast sunrise could motivate the Asians
to come up with any audio during this latest solar tantrum. A useless session
from 0900-0930 was combined with one from 1420-1430, and confirmed that even
the NHK big guns were down for the count. Unlike the Asians 738-Tahiti did
manage a decent carrier around 1420, which may have improved to weak audio if
someone was motivated to stick around for it (which I definitely wasn't). These
are the type of mornings when Victoria and Alberta usually check in with
detailed DU-DXing reports, so the psychological preparation is in place.
