[IRCA] TP 15 Sep Victoria version

2016-09-15 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Although there were Asians this morning, it really was more a DU
morning, from quite early on.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

594 JOAK Japanese man 1311-12UT, someone underneath by 1322UT, seemed
//612, so 3WV.

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

612 4QR two men DU English 1329UT, // 774, 549, 594 at various times
738 Tahiti likely pop music 1227UT, electric jazz 1234UT
774 3LO woman on phone, man in studio, DU English. //612, and likely
702, but that was pretty rough, 1351UT

828 JOBB woman in Japanese, then man 1315UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

576 2RN quiet vocal music 1326UT, at 1340UT //846
774 JOUB man in Japanese 1325UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

549 2CR man mumbling 1323-4UT, //612
621 3RN deep in the splatter and murk, folky vocal music //576 1339UT
747 JOIB lessons //774 1335UT
846 2RN woman talking, folky music //576 1340UT
1053 Korean jammer 1330UT
1116 man talking, DU English inflection 1337UT
1287 JOHR? woman talking, Japanese inflection 1335UT
1566 HLAZ? man talking, Japanese inflection 1335UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 15 September 2016

2016-09-15 Thread Nigel Pimblett
As others have noted, not an overly exciting morning.
Only 3 stations with audio heard this morning, with two of them on the
same frequency.JOUB on 774 was the only Asian, with bits of Japanese
at 1241 this morning. ABC Melbourne was also logged on 774, with time
pips and ABC fanfare at 1300. JOUB was still in there at that point,
with their pips under the stronger ABC. Another regular, 4BC Brisbane
on 1116 was the only other to reach audio, with talk heard at 1256.

[IRCA] Domestic MWDX to Enid OK, September 9-15, 2016

2016-09-15 Thread Glenn Hauser via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
All times and dates strictly UT [4 hours ahead of `ELT` during EDT; when
changing times one must also change the dates for events in the 00-04 UT period
to the previous date by ELT].

Rx: mostly DX-398 with internal antenna only or PL-880; NRD-545 with ALA-330S
inside E-W or inside randomwire N-S; Nissan stock caradio as specified; IC-R75
with E-W longwire

These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also
VHF/UHF, sometimes, utility, ham, which may be found in several archives
without much delay, such as
http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and
publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST:
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxldmid.html

All my MW DX reports starting August 2011 are archived in this forum with open
access:
http://forums.wtfda.org/showthread.php?6543-MW-DX-from-Enid-OK-by-Glenn-Hauser/page50

These logs are in four sections, Canada [if any], Oklahoma [if any], rest of
USA, unidentified [if any], separated by === Within each, they are in
frequency order

** U S A. 530, re the Kansas Turnpike HAR relaying NWS Wichita Sept 9/11:

{BTW, the NWS robot pronounces the Arkansas River as ``are-KAN-zuss``, like
Arkansas City. A while ago I attempted to explain the divisions between that
pronunciation and ``ARE-kan-saw``, maintaining that the river is always
pronounced like the state, even when flowing thru CO, KS, OK and AR. Possibly
inhabitants of Kansas, especially around the City, can`t help but pronounce the
river like the city, but I suspect the robot can`t tell the difference when
``reading`` text which ``looks`` exactly the same, and has been programmed to
pronounce Arkansas as ``are-KAN-zuss`` wherever it may appear, regardless of
context. Another argument for the employment of humans with a brain.}

** U S A. UNIDENTIFIED [non]. Re: ``810, Sept 6 at 0230 UT...phone starts 615
(but not an AC which would be E Tennessee)". [suspected to be a Mexican]

And so it is: WMGC in Murfreesboro ('burb of Nashville), sporting a SS: MEX
format, and known by some to cheat with day power at night. I'd bet six months
pay on this. I had access to a mid-Tennessee remote receiver a few months ago;
WMGC had an inordinantly loud night signal on most tries (GREG HARDISON, CA, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

5000 watts day, 0006 watts night (NRC AM Log 2016 via DXLD)

** U S A. 840, Sept 15 at 1202 UT, looping N/S, peppy M&W announcers in
Spanglish, mention McAllen, soon fades out, no doubt KVJY, CoL Pharr TX in the
RGV. Radio-Locator linx to this website
http://informativorg.com/
which appears to be current, as Informativo RG, but R-L also calls it ``La
Luz`` with an address in Austin. Neil Kazaross was getting this in Kansas City
and thought there had been a format change at KVJY. Beware: there is another
Luz on 840 and 101.9 FM in Guatemala. As for Spanglish, it`s hard to imagine
anystation broadcasting that from the other side of the bortera (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1170, Sept 13 at 0150 UT, gospel huxter still QRMing underneath KFAQ
Tulsa, i.e. WWVA OH as already identified; ``Jesus is coming back on such &
such a date``, still failing to null toward KFAQ and me, presumably 50 kW ND.

1170, WWVA: I have been meaning to correct a slip on WORLD OF RADIO 1842:
saying Virginia instead of West Virginia as its state of origin, if not
transmission. I certainly know the difference; altho to be fair, the other one
should be East Virginia. Can you imagine a Carolina and a South Carolina; a
Dakota and a North Dakota, or vice versa? Axually, I seem to recall one of the
Dakotas was considering co-opting the un-direxional name (Glenn Hauser, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1480, Sept 15 at 1214 UT, peppy M&W announcers mixing English with
South Asian language (Hinglish? Engjabi?), VG from SSE, i.e. KBXD Dallas --- so
they have finally become a real station after stunting for months with
nothing(?) but S Asian pop music. Promos/ads for somethings in the 469 area
code, which is one of the overlays around 214 Dallas. 1218 UT ID as ``Radio
Salaam Namaste``, introducing a music break; now losing a little to KQAM
Wichita with a 2.5 Hz SAH. 1222 UT ``This is Radio Salaam, 1480 AM, Bollywood
Channel`` --- sometimes leaves out the ``Namaste``. Ad for some event Sept 18
at the Irving Convention Center. Ad for bridal jewelry from Mark Samuel
Jewelers. ``Radio Salaam Namaste, 1480-AM, music with a beat``; generic
birthday wish.

KBXD is 50/1.9 kW, clearly on day power now. It had a hard time getting going
since a rebuild, with previous religious or music formats stunting (``Wonderful
K-Box``), and long spells off the air.

Googling around, it seems a station of the same name had been on 104.9 (KZMP)
since at least 2008y, but no mention of an FM frequency now!

Hi Guys:

Thanks to Tim Tromp of Michigan who reminded me that CHIM-FM from Timmins has
been heard on 1710 Khz with a Low Power Relay of their Religious Station. Good
chance that is what I heard in the log below???

I'll have to keep an eye on this and see if comes in again!!

It has very Distorted Audio and Tim says when he heard it, it actually sounded
better in FM. Perhaps that's why I couldn't understand what they were saying??

UNIDENTIFIED. 560, Sept 15 at 1159, Mexican loops SW, 6:59 timecheck, ``Mundo
Deportivo`` segment in news, something in the Estadio Jalisco. There are no
tapatíans on 560, but most likely XESRD in Santiago Papasquiaro, Durango; or
XEGIK in Monclova, Coahuila, altho the only 560 with a purely news format in
the 2015 IRCA Mexican Log is XEOC in México DF. But many musical stations
include a morning news block, which can throw you off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. Re: ``700, Sept 8 at 1153, Radio Red ID, presumed XEDKR Guadalajara,
which relays XERED 1110 México DF; thought I heard an FM 92.1 mentioned, but
not listed as such in Jalisco, and in the DF it`s on 88.1. 700 listed as
1/150 watts (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)``

XHRED and XHFO swapped formats in June, so you heard 92.1. I suspect Red FM is
not much longer for this world (Raymie Humbert, AZ, Sept 8, WTFDA Forum via
DXLD)

UNIDENTIFIED. 702, Sept 15 at 1147, the only TP carrier I can detect is this,
from the west, presumably 2BL Sydney, Australia (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 710-, Sept 11 at 0138, DKAZ antenna nulling the east is sufficient
to audiblize the tell-tale het from XEDP Ciudad Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, while
using their off-frequency transmitter site, as frequently noted back in OK ---
where KCMO on 710.0 is not a local!

720, Sept 11 at 0140, Spanish music, likely XEJCC Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua,
rather than anything from WGN Chicago, tnx to the DKAZ antenna aimed west
(Glenn Hauser, Kansas City MO, DX-398, WORLD OF RADIO 1843, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 870, Sept 15 at 1201, NA is playing, and at 1207 recheck, XETAR is
just now signing-on in Spanish, neat rustic music breaks, and same in other
native languages but they still pronounce the calls and website as in Spanish,
and the sponsoring agencies. Lema: ``Cuatro pueblos unidos en una sola voz``.
As usual, good signal from 10 kW daytimer La Voz de la Sierra Tarahumara, in
Guachochi, Chihuahua, dominating frequency until fadeout by 1220 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Pre-sunrise bandscan for TP carriers, Sunday Sept 11 at 1147-1159
UT on the DKAZ antenna into DX-398: 765, 774, 828, 837, 882, 1035, 1098, 1548.
Intriguing 765 still in at 1207. No DFing with this, to distinguish between DU
and FE, but I suppose DU more likely now? But generally much higher powers from
Asia.

1098 is of particular interest, likely V7AB Marshall Islands, with new 25 kW
Nautel transmitter as reported by Brian Clark, NZ; he says it signs off circa
1130 but leaves carrier on. Neil Kazaross, DXing at the same time from his DX
truck was getting more of these with his SDR. The DKAZ had three hookups
available simultaneously. Nick Hall-Patch from BC was on the other one. And I
am indebted to Mark Durenberger who came up with a proper adapter so I could
use it. That antenna really too much for the DX-398, but at least it has an RF
gain control to minimize the overload, including SW signals such as CW from WLO
(Glenn Hauser, at The Gathering, Kansas City MO, WORLD OF RADIO 1843, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 2800, Sept 15 at 1151, wideband warbling centred around here, and
off. Could it be HAARP reactivated from Alaska? Via CIDX Messenger, Rick

Thank you for the schedule reminder, I have sent a correction to WRTH info.

Best regards,

Hi all - so I have this log on 612 kHz, below. AA mx, fairly strong, from
0258-0303 UTC. There may be an ID but my ears are not yet accustomed to
picking out AA words and phrases and I have a hard time understanding. I
would normally say Morocco, but they aren't supposed to be on until 0400.
The 2 Saudi stations and the one in Bahrain are all Quranic, so I wouldn't
expect mx and a female announcer. Iraq is too low powered to be plausible.
So that seems to leave Iran and Jordan. I have included a rcdg from 0301:30
to 0303. The music played right through TOH and the announcements start at
0302. If there is anyone that can pick out an ID from this, I'd be really
interested in what it in fact is. I may have heard the word 'Iran' spoken by
the woman, but am not sure.

Thanks very much!

Michael

UNID - 612 kHz, 0258-0303 UTC: AA mx and announcements by a man and then a

Re: [IRCA] A late TP report for 15 September, 2015 from Victoria: all DU

2016-09-15 Thread R. Colin Newell
Just from memory - log book not in front of me.

A pretty dull session but started to perk up DU at around 1315 UTC.

By frequency

567 Japan - very poor levels
576 Light chorale music // 603 at fr. good levels. Heard no talking - maybe
ABC? 2RN
594 Japan - fr. good levels.
603 Light chorale music // 576
612 AUS - at very good levels by 1320
702 AUS - EE at fair levels in CBC splat
738 Unid - great level but ravaged by 730 Vancouver
756 UNid - hints of EE
774 - NHK - Language lessons
792 - AUS (t) EE commentary
828 - JJ weak in passing
846-855-864 carriers around 5 - 7db away from audible
972 Korea - pr. fair
1053 Jammer - pr. level lowest of the week I think.
1566 poor level - chorale music.
1575 - talk in the mud. likely VOA.

So far this September, nothing truly spectacular.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-15

2016-09-15 Thread d1028gary
A lackluster collection of Asian big guns managed to show up at peak sunrise
enhancement this morning but none of them sounded particularly healthy. Almost
all of the second-tier TP's stayed down in the noise, as yesterday's general
collapse continued for a second day.

A check of the band at 1250 revealed only 594-JOAK in weak audio, with no other
Asians stronger than carrier level. Around 1315 both 594-JOAK and 828-JOBB
reached fair levels along with the 1053-Jammer, but the high band was
especially depressed, with 1566-HLAZ only managing a few seconds of audio at a
time. Very late in the session at 1330 there was some poor audio from a
presumed 738-BEL2 and 1134-JOQR, but strangely enough the Japanese big guns on
693 and 747 never made an appearance at all. Overall the session was distinctly
mediocre, with only 594-JOAK coming close to a good level (for a few seconds
around 1320).

[IRCA] A late TP report for 15 September, 2015 from Victoria: all DU

2016-09-15 Thread Walter Salmaniw
Unfortunately, got to the dials late, but yes, a decent DU morning with 774
much stronger than yesterday. At good level. No sign of Japan here at
13:53. As usual, powerful domestic splatter spoils things. 828 has
someone, but I'm getting too much 820 splatter. 846 is fair in English.
Interesting, but 1098 not so strong today with OC. 1116 is fair/good.
549 has someone, but 550 splatter too overwhelming. 576 is fair in
English. Same for 594. 702 fair at 13:57 in English. Yes, much better DU
today compared to yesterday using my W corner fed loop/FLG 100.

[IRCA] Nova Scotia Log 15 Sep 2016

2016-09-15 Thread Michael Yule

Michael

UNID - 612 kHz, 0258-0303 UTC: AA mx and announcements by a man and then a
woman at 0302. Rcdg starts at 0301:30 UTC.
