[IRCA] BBC Scotland 810 ... at the house!

2016-11-16 Thread Mark Connelly via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
TA's on US channels are always good to get, so it was interesting to find BBC
Radio Scotland topping WGY on 810 at 6 p.m. EST / 2300 UTC this evening.
Though not rare at beach sites I can drive to in an hour or less (Duxbury,
Orleans, Eastham), it's quite a bit rarer at the home QTH with about 10 miles /
16 km of sandy soil on that bearing before hitting the water. That bit of land
takes at least 10 dB off the signal compared to shore-side.

The 75 deg. SuperLoop does a pretty good job of taking out all the southerly
stuff that crowds 810 on the other SuperLoop aimed 165 deg. at the Caribbean -
stations such as Bahamas, Colombia, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Brazil.

Of course the demise of former superpest CJVA helps too.

2016-11-16 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Not even decent audio here on 1566but some audioalso around
1500UT; pretty comparable to a moment or two during the Japanese
service around 1320UT.

Otherwise a few carriers 612, 756 1098 1323.

Not an exciting morning by any stretch of the imagination.

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 16 November 2016

2016-11-16 Thread Nigel Pimblett
After an improvement yesterday I was looking forward to a
continuation of that trend today. I should know better

747JOIBSapporo, JAPAN Today it was not only the best of the
Japanese, but also the only Japanese, reaching fair level (again rather
briefly) at 1415 with woman in Japanese.

1116	4BC	Brisbane, AUSTRALIA	Usual talk by a man at 1351. The only DU
audio, and not really any other decent DU carriers either.

1566	HLAZ	Cheju, S.KOREA After being virtually non-existent for the
whole session, around 1415 it rose quite suddenly

to a fair level with man in Japanese.

Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] An SDR for the masses?

2016-11-16 Thread longwave
I looks like is 8gb of flash storage. If the SDR can record up to 192 khz of
bandwidth then it would perfect for a quick on-the-go type of unit. Even
recording one frequency at a time would be ok for that.

Even if it is capable of receiving more than a single channel, there's not
likely enough capacity there to record it without dumping the output files
externally, which may also not be possible.

But what would be the point of a single channel SDR ?

Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 11-16

2016-11-16 Thread R. Colin Newell
Saw remnants of the same this AM.

Paul has a red hot location that is for sure... His location is not unlike
Masset - where one can start hearing TA's at 3 in the afternoon and TP's
until 10:30 AM.

Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] An SDR for the masses?

2016-11-16 Thread Russ Edmunds
Even if it is capable of receiving more than a single channel, there's not
likely enough capacity there to record it without dumping the output files
externally, which may also not be possible.

But what would be the point of a single channel SDR ?

Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] An SDR for the masses?

2016-11-16 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
It was speculated in a recent IRCA Technical
Column that this is a tablet based version of
something like the CommRadio CR-1 Les.That
is, a single frequency radio using SDR
technology.This isn't a bad thing, but it
possibly is not capable of wideband recording.

Seriously, the noise levels have become so bad
here that recording SDR files in the quiet
countryside is quickly becoming the only real
option. Currently, that means packing up the
laptop, SDR, antennas, etc. It’s daunting—and
I’ve been looking for soolutions to make the
whole thing more portable. This product would certainly help in that regard.

How quickly can I purchase them? :-)

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 11-16

2016-11-16 Thread d1028gary
Some ghostly Chinese audio from 1566-HLAZ and a ghostly carrier on 1593 around
