[IRCA] TP 16 Dec Victoria version

2016-12-16 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
It was pretty much a stinker of a morning from 1000UT onwardseven
the regular early big guns didn't show much. 774 and 747 delivered
a small amount of audio in the 1514-20UT time period, then there was
a lift around 1610UT, mostly 1557.And by 1630UT, it was long gone.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

nope

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

1557 likely Taiwan with woman in Chinese, fading erratically, peaking
at this level briefly in the 1615-18UT period

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

the above passing through

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

1566 female vocal 1610UT, and some dribs and drabs of music over the
next 10 minutes or so.

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

 594 1098 1503 1575 1593

best wishes,

Nick

Re: [IRCA] UNID 1575

2016-12-16 Thread Chuck Hutton
As I see it:

  - Niche Radio carries a dozen or more languages. Why should we assume they
are in a mideastern language at this particular time?

   - Niche Radio was formerly Rete Italia and as such, was a difficult DX
target.

- The programming matches the modern pop mideastern sound of Farda.

- I won't claim to be a great Farsi linguist, but I am going with Farsi on
this one. I can have a native Farsi speaker give an opinion.

  - Farda gets out very well and has been a morning visitor in much of the NW.

All of this is circumstantial, so no I can't prove anything yet. To not even
consider Farda as a candidate is very surprising.

And as best I know, no one has mentioned thinking this is VOA.

My first guess on this one would certainly be the Sydney affiliate of Radio
Niche. I'd tell you to send them an e-mail but their website just times out
time and time again. It should be at i...@nicheradio.com.au. They certainly
have this programming though... and I'd find it hard to believe it's not
them.

Second, but unlikely, would be Radio Iran, though I don't know the specific
language in the song. They're 800kw though, so they've got the power to get
their signal your way for sure.

Anyone who even assumes that would be VOA clearly is language tone-deaf
haha. It's easy to see this is a Middle Eastern region language and not a
southeast Asian one.

Re: [IRCA] Alberta TP for 15 December 2016

2016-12-16 Thread Don Moman VE6JY
0420 utc 1566 is a solid carrier but not up to audio levels... also noted
855 as a decent carrier as well and 1413/1215/531 were extremely faint.
All on African beverage.

As Tim mentioned 1530 VOA coming into Michigan, I let the Perseus sit on
1530 in a high RBW and saw the following carriers (after a quick
calibration, so should be within a hz or so).. I do have a screen grab but
no use attaching that...

1529.969 979 984 989 992 997 1530.000 .001 .006 .038

Looking at the offsets at MWlist.org didn't enlighten me very much. Not
surprising as I wouldn't expect VOA to be very far out of the pack...

[IRCA] 700th station logged

2016-12-16 Thread Brian Rachford
I'm a little late in posting this, but I reached the 700 mark for AM BCB
stations logged at this location on November 16th. The nice thing is that
it was DX, 780-WBBM Chicago at 1417 miles. Unfortunately, like most of my
recent catches, it was on an SDR recording and not live. This year's
catches have mostly been a by-product of TP recordings to the northwest
with a Conti Superloop, but occasionally I point east and that's how I got
WBBM.

Here are the stats from the 700 stations, logged between
08/16/14-11/16/16. I have reached the halfway point in stations logged
from 6 states, which are indicated with asterisks. In all cases, the stats
are for the city of license, so in reality I've only received transmissions

don't have hooked up at the moment. Hearing this on the North D-KAZ.

Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 12-16...Victoria version

2016-12-16 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Around here, you have to wait a bit longer, it seems. First audio
wasn't until 1608UT, and it was 1557. Recognizable Chinese by woman
by 1610UT, but erratic fading.

Just traces traces of audio (mostly imaginary) on 1566, and looks
like 1575 and 1593 "might" develop as their carriers are very erratic also.

best wishes,

Nick

Richard predicted the Asian TP reception here very accurately this
morning-- poor to fair audio from 1566-HLAZ around 1545 (although
Chinese this time, instead of Japanese). There were anemic carriers
a few other big gun TP's, but none close to audio. "One is the
Loneliest Number" by Three Dog Night would fit the past couple of
days here very well.

[IRCA] Oklahoma TP DX 12/16/17

2016-12-16 Thread Richard N Allen
If something is better than nothing, then this morning was a vast improvement
over the drought of the few days.

702 unID ( 2BL?) a weak carrier from DU at 1331.
1098 unID (V7AB?) a strong carrier in WTAM-1100 slop at 0716-0817.
1566 HLAZ barely audible talk & music at 1336 (LSR); poor at 1337-1339; barely
audible to poor from 1340 until fade-out at 1345. Signal was strong enough to
recognize Japanese speech.

No other TP signals were detected.

Richard Allen,
near Perry OK USA,
PL-380 & FSL.

Subject: [IRCA] Seoul AM Audio Bandscan

I should finish my audio bandscan tomorrow. It'll be an even 3 hours long
and will have a variety of recordings with commentary:

- Korean Central TV (DPRK) audio
- All regular skywave stations one frequency at a time
- Jamming (all jammers in a single compilation one frequency at a time /
AM, FM, SW)

- Korean propaganda radio wars
(Echo of Hope, Voice of the People, Jayu FM, Jayuui Sori, V24 numbers
station)

It's created out of 859 different audio files. I'm thinking of releasing
the jammer and propaganda section (about 45 minutes long) separately this
weekend.

Of all the commentary I recorded, I actually deleted 4+ hours of mistakes.
I could have filled a half hour with freaking bloopers if I had time.

The only thing the project doesn't have is subtitles! For those of you who
have read this message to the bottom, here is a 20-min. preview of the
propaganda section (this is basically finished short of maybe perfecting
the audio; this preview is lower quality; a recording issue is likely to
delay this I think) --

Re: [IRCA] 1053 Jammer - who hears what?

2016-12-16 Thread Chris Kadlec
It turns out I am mistaken on this point. The Seoul jammer has turned off
its siren on the frequency. Go figure. They're always changing something.
Even listening to my old jammer recordings, I note that it's different from
this year's. You'd think they'd be more efficient at it, though with the new
experimental site that went online, they most certainly are now.

Broadcasting from Jeju?? You'd get RF burns standing at the north
end of that island by the sound of it, what with 1566 and 1053 as well.

Sounds like a field trip is in order.
