Re: [IRCA] TP 3 Jan Victoria version CRI on 963 and 1323

2019-01-03 Thread Volodya S
Had a quick listen to my Perseus wav files for 963 and 1323. Nick is
correct. Although conditions to China were not ideal most days between Dec
28th and Jan 2nd, I didn't hear CRI in Russian on 963 during the 15 to 16
hour period. As for 1323, indeed, the CRI IS/fanfare came on at the TOH at
16:00 without any ID, and seemingly left the air after that. 73, Walt

[IRCA] TP 3 Jan Victoria version.

2019-01-03 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
The year continues downhill, in spite of the geomagnetically quiet conditions;
but then there was AFN on 1575... NHK2 again off at 1440UT, but not much zip
compared with previous days.

If nothing else, there was time to check 1323 and 963 on the Khabarovsk
KiwiSDR at 1500 and 1600UT. At 1500UT, 1323 was going strong "Radio Kitaya"
CRI, with no sign of going off the air per its listed sign off. 963 on the
other hand showed no sign of Radio Kitaya before 1500UT; no wonder it's not
being heard just now. At 1600UT no IDs on 1323, but recognizable top of the
hour CRI music, which stopped at 1600UT, followed by a short tone and then off,
with NHK1 filling the gap.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

nada, though perhaps 774's sign off chimes came close?

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling with splash or noise):

594 JOAK 1600UT

774 JOUB s/off 1443UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker:

639 CNR1 //1593 1544UT

747 JOIB s/off 1441UT

1503 JOUK 1558UT jazz guitar //594

1575 AFN assumed with woman and man in American English "January 31st, in
time..." a chance to join for military members" 1543UT, erratic fading

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

567 JOIK //594 1555UT

603 ballad 1522UT likely HLSA

621 yet another ballad 1542UT; Heilongjiang RGD likely?

828 JOBB s/off 1440UT

855 ballad 1558UT; maybe Chinese pips on hour, but pretty imaginary

972 man talking, Korean? 1545UT

1287 man talking, Japanese intonation 1541UT

1593 CNR1 //639 1544UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged
by splatter)
657 738  891 918 945 1242  1269 1323 1386 1422  1494  1557  seemed to be Asian;
nothing seemed to be DU

best wishes,

Hi,

While reviewing SDR files from 12/20/18 0700, I uncovered
a good TOH ID
from WESR in Olney, VA, 1330 kHz.What made the logging
interesting
was the moderate speed cw (Morse code) id that followed of
its FM
translator W289CE. If this is their normal method of ID,
should make for
a relatively easy logging. That cw really cuts through.

That makes perfect sense, judging from the total absence of 1566-AIR in the
Pacific islands last year. They were completely MIA in both the Cooks and
Hawaii, even on mornings when other Indian frequencies managed fair strength.

AIR 1566 used to be a powerful dominant station in Newfoundland, but in the
last 2 years we have not heard it at all.

Something has happened to their transmitter / antenna.

And if anyone is thinking conditions are to blame, over 40 Indians have been
heard from Newfoundland although of course not all in the last few years.

NHK2 signs off around 1545. The 1000 kW helped to overcome the 3AW Oz pest in

I had no idea, Russ. I guess some entities aren't that particular with
their callsigns/designators!

Stan, RQM 221 has indeed been reported on the ndblist miskeying as RMQ.  No,
you didn't over celebrate on New Years Eve.  :-)

New Years Eve, I logged a new non-directional navigational beacon: RMQ
on 222 kHz, but I don't know where it is located because it does not
show up on any navigational beacon lists.

RQM in Maine transmits on 221 MHz and I had to make sure that I was not
transposing its Q and M when I heard RMQ. I double and triple checked
and I am positive I heard RMQ and nit RQM.

By the way, RMQ is the three-letter designator for an airport in Taiwan
— I am pretty sure I did not hear Taiwan on LW New Years Eve.

Yet another by the way, while trying to track down RMQ, I found a great
online tool for NDBs: http://www.fivegulf.com/ndb/

Anyway - if anyone has a clue about RMQ, I'd appreciate your take on it
because I am clueless!

Congratulations on your 693-Bangladesh reception. They were also pretty strong
for me in the Cook Islands (mixing with 3NE) in April, but barely broke through
some nasty 690-KHNR (Honolulu) splatter in Kauai, Hawaii last November.

Re: [IRCA] TP from Masset for 31 2018

2019-01-03 Thread Patrick Martin
Walt,

Really some great catches there. When I lived in Seward AK in the 60s, KTIL as
well as KNPT were common. KAST was rare though. Those Lighthouse stations are a
lot of fun and when conditions are good, their 50-60 watts gets out well.
Logged and QSL'd 7 of them in the 90s. One would come on with the
weather/current conditions, go off and another would pop on. Some were weaker
than others, and some not audible.

Nick is correct. Besides a very promising early evening nothing more
occurred here in Masset. As for the morning very strong into Asia.
Virtually nil from Australia. Once again 1611 was booming in until sign off
after 17:00. Some TA Asian activity again including perhaps 1440 Saudi.
1539 was strong again TPs continue now past 20:30. 9400 Bulgaria was open
19 to 20 with a special as was Romania in Ukrainian on 49 meters. Not bad
for mid day! Happy New Year to all! Walt
