[IRCA] Trio of DUs in Manitoba Oct 11
Pretty poor conditions. Just these 3 DUs produced audio, around local sunrise. 1116 had good audio 774 fair 702 poor. Oct 4/2011 First was 1116 at 12.10 GMT (local sunrise 12:31) with weak audio that became stronger by 12:25 - EE with Australian accent. 774 also produced EE with Australian accent at 12:18 GMT 738 had weak audio, I think French, but couldn't be positive. [IRCA] NO TA in Manitoba Monday evening Nov 8
No luck here again. A little bit of long wave - 189 was good, 153 fair, 162 weak. At 00:42 GMT weak hets on 783 873 but so weak we gave up and went home. 60 mile or so drive each way so was hoping for more, but did get to see 5 bald eagles on the way out and 3 deer on the way home (not counting the carcass of one that poachers had butchered on our driveway to our DX location - idiots with high power rifles make one a little leery or staying overnight to tune - especially when conditions are so bad.) One of the deer a nice buck on the way back stayed right in front of me on the highway as I came to a stop about 10 feet from it, then waited and slowly walked off into the bush. [IRCA] Poor TA conditions in Manitoba Thursday night
Went to our DX location 60 miles east of Winnipeg tonight. Basically nothing in the way of TA. hets on 1548, 1557, 1575, 747 weak audio on 783 for a short period of time. Even longwave was poor with weak audio on 153, 162, 171 and I think 198. Didn't tempt me to stay overnight to try for TPs DUs in the AM. Seems to be the story of the year the 4 times I've gone out to tune. [IRCA] Poor TA/TP conditions in Manitoba
DXing last night/this morning (Sept 15/16) 50 miles East on Winnipeg, MB using beverages and NRD-535D No TAs - a few very weak hets - 783 747 774 855 In the morning around sunrise conditions also poor - some hets but little audio. 738 - was in at times with decent audio that you could tell was French and understand a few words. Just before sunrise (11:52 GMT) some audio on 774 765 and 1116 but not even strong enough to tell what language atho based on time and direction of antenna I'm pretty sure they were DU. Re: [IRCA] Alaska on 529
I heard this on Oct 19 around local sunrise in southern Manitoba - using a 2,000 foot beverage pointed at Alaska. First time that I know of. Nothing was coming in from Japan or Australia that morning so I tried for Alaska without any success (never heard Alaska) For some reason I decided to listen to the weather info coming in on 529, my ears perked up when I thought I heard weather alerts for central Alaska. Later listening to my recording, I also heard weather info for Juneau, so also think it must be Level Island. 400 watts I believe. I have no idea why it was getting this far out. Unfortunately I wouldn't count this as hearing Alaska on MW - only a broadcast station would do it for me. Barry WasyikNRD 535D + 6 beverage antennas Had an interesting station on 529 when I went to check 531 - one of the transcribed weather broadcasts (TWB) from Alaska. Per the Hepburn site this could have been FDV / KBN 58 Nome or SQM / KQA 59 Level Island - I suspect the latter as it is much closer. Anyone else log those? 73, Deane McIntyre VE6BPO Calgary Alberta ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
