Just to update my reply, around lunchtime today I checked this out on the car radio for 15 minutes. Did not hear anything at all on 1250 (KHIL is about 215 miles away, 10 kW ND), but had steady decent audio for "Comedy 1260" KBSZ out of Apache Junction in the same direction (~100 miles away, 4.5 kW ND). As Paul noted, that station now blocks KHIL from trying again to move to 1260. That's good to hear. I've been through there once and it is quite a ways from Phoenix (although PHX stations cover it well) KOY even since they moved to 1230 goes all the way to the CA border during the day on a good car radio. Kind of sad that the station formerly on 1250 just basically abandoned its former city of license Wickenburg AZ and moved all the way to the other side of Phoenix. 1260 there used to be occupied by KPIN country named for (Pinal?) county. One of KHIL's minority owners is a man from Loveland, CO who buys stations/CP's and moves and upgrades them. KHIL was a regular in the afternoons into Rancho Mirage CA when I was there in 2000. KHIL even QSL'd my report with a nice verie letter. I am surprised they went with an Oldies/AC type format. I would have thought in rural AZ, C&W would be a good format to run. They were denied a move to 1260, a new tower location, and a boost in daytime power back in 2008 that should have given them better coverage into areas between Phoenix and Tucson and into those metro areas. They're now owned out of North Carolina. I be driven past their tower and little transmitter shack along the 10 freeway in the past. I didn't see a good vantage point for a photograph but I'm sure where there's a will there's a way. I just got word that KHIL Wilcox AZ is no longer Country. I have not seen this reported, unless I missed it somewhere. KHIL is calling themselves "X Wave" and running some 1970's Oldies format.
