Hello Mike
The PERSEUS is the tops. I think the future is better PERSEUS type receivers. I
cannot see manufactures, that don't go this way, still been in business in 2
years! The BIG problem with PERSEUS is finding the time to listen hi! I guess
if you have got a dedicated laptop with a 500GB hard drive you can save some
Wav. files. You can then spend time scrutinising them in the quiet DX summer
months?

Hi Everyone:

Ten days ago I placed an order for a Perseus receiver. Not a sudden decision by
any means as I had been thinking of getting one for almost a year. The sudden
death of my old Dell computer was the catalyst I needed. It was approaching
it's 9th birthday, well past it's best before date and not worth repairing so a
replacement suitable for driving a SDR was found. The Perseus arrived here last
Friday and I've spent the past two evenings learning something about it. All I
can say so far is Wow! this machine is incredible. Yesterday evening I could
see many TA's across the whole band, admittedly most of them were just
carriers, but to actually see them is beyond belief. Even on the longwave
beacons I could actually read the Morse code IDs being transmitted on the
screen. Yet months ago when I first read about this waterfall display in the
users manual I thought I will never use that and now I'm thinking I will use
it all the time. It's gonna take a while
 before I learn everyt!
hing it can do, but it's gonna be a fun time.

Re: [IRCA] Perseus receiver

2009-11-01 Thread longwave
I recently purchased the Perseus myself and I'm loving every minute of
using it. Currently I'm running it on my 6 year old Dell. Haven't
recorded anything with it yet and I've found that it runs better if I
set the priority in Task Manager to Above Normal for the Perseus it runs
smoother. I've also run it off my Acer Netbook (about 6 months old) and
it runs like a charm.

Enjoy, Mike! It's certainly changed the hobby for me, and for the better.

And, you had TA's last night? It was zero here last night, not even
any carriers worth mentioning.Better tonight, with audio on 1134,
1089 (seems to be the Russian), and 1215, along with a fair number of
carriers. As Nick mentioned, the best for several days.

Yeah I had a few with fair audio, 1134 and 1575 come to mind. There was also
a couple with very faint audio lower down, but not enough to discern
language. Plus many carriers. Tonight just carriers noted.
