EMWG has English listed at this time, not Russian, and only one station at
Rasht with 800 kW. WRTH shows Russian at this time, from Kiahshar with 500
kW. Also listed is a 50 kw station in Bushehr.

I no longer remember what cuaased me to say the WRTH conflicts with itself.
The frequency listing and the national entry are in accord. Maybe I mixed
up a different frequency.

Thanks for looking carefully at my report. After I wrote this I have found
nearly 20 additional Iranaian stations at the half hour with the distincive

Jim,
I believe Iran also uses 702 for Russian at 1930, and 702 does very
well, as I heard it here many evenings last season, and even a few

Re: [IRCA] TAs Tonight

2010-12-06 Thread Jim Renfrew
Hi Chuck - you nailed it. Iran it is. The chimes fit the VIRI IS on
Interval Signals on Line, not quite the same tone, but definitely the same
notes. On 702 I only hear two tones, but it's a dead-on match with the same
tones on 711 where there are three tones. The third tone seems to have
dropped out on 702. I suspect that I will hear these chimes many times as I
work my way up the dial on this recording. The Iranian TOH at xx:30 is one
major reason why we record at the bottom of the hour. Maybe hearing what I
want to hear but maybe that ID is Govorit Iran or Tehran. Thanks! Jim

Walt and Others,

Thanks for your detailed TA reports last night, keeping us fully alerted as
 to the European signal strengths.

I was able to catch the tail end of the action, making a strong MP3 of
1134-Croatia at 0353 on the new PL-310 ultralight (assisted by a 6' PVC box
loop in the back yard). This was the first west coast TA received on this new
DSP pocket radio, which used its 1 kHz DSP filtering to keep the 1130-CKWX
splatter in check.

Congratulations also on receiving 1215-Absolute Radio on your E100 Slider,

are popping up to audio now and again, but generally for only brief

2007-11-19 Thread Nigel Pimblett
After our success in the afternoons up at Lamont thought I'd try some
afternoons here, and this was the first one when I've had a chance.
Started listening at 2245 UTC, by which time 1575 was already a strong
carrier (actually, it faded gradually after 2300). Noted about 25
carriers between 2245 and 2345, some quite decent (1575, 585, 693, 855,
1377 at times) but most rather weak. Oddly, the only channel that made
it to audio was 1044, where I've never heard a TA before. Just after
2300 heard a woman giving what sounded like news, then at 2305 it was
into some hard to describe music, almost Arabic sounding but not
quite.Checking again just now (0245) things aren't as good as
earlier. A handful of carriers, but only the regular 1134 and 1215 are
substantial.
Just my luck, things are gettting interesting again, and now I have
to leave town for a week!

Probably missed the best of it, but Virgin Radio-1215 has been about
50% audio after 0400UT, though hard to make sense of it due to the
huge amount of splatter from our semi-local on (ahem) 1200. The
carrier on 1215 is very loud, but there really isn't anything else
very strong among the numerous other carriers heard. Best have been
837 1377 and 1494, but none lasted long.

best wishes,

540 was Spanish on top of the normally dominating CBK Regina.
I must say that I am using the Phaser way more now to dig through
the regionals in light of the fact that there are no TA's for me to

Well, I can't say the same down here in the south. 1575 had a decent
carrier, about the same as yesterday, but didn't reach audio. Noted
about 20 frequencies with carriers, but none super strong. Presumed
Virgin on 1215 came up with pop music for about 30 seconds, then faded
back to mediocrity.

Now that's interesting, Don. The Hall-Patch phenomenon has not reached
Alberta yet. I can hear 1575 here tonight, but it's very weak. Not at
all like last night! Glad things are hopping there in
 Lamont.Walt.

It's certainly up here tonight Walt. And Don is only 220 miles south of me.
I had just one carrier, faint at best, and that was on 1134. Nothing on
1575.

[IRCA] TAs tonight on the west coast

2007-11-05 Thread Walter Salmaniw
Earlier in the evening I had 1575 with a 4 carrier, 1215 with weak audio. Now
(at 03:30), I have a 4 to 5 carrier on 1494, 1422 at a 5, 1377, 1341, 1269,
1251,
1224, 1215, 1179,1152, 1134 (fair audio), 1107, 1098, 1089, 1053,1044, 1017,
999, 927, 918, 882, 873 (5 level), 864, 855 (5 level), 819, 783, 774, 765
(snippets audio), 756, 747, 675, and 585.

Plenty out there, and all of these on my new North facing corner fed loop. Who
knows whether anything will develop, though!.Walt.

Re: [IRCA] TAs tonight on the west coast

2007-11-05 Thread Nigel Pimblett
My carrier list for the evening looks like this:

693, 828, 855, 954, 1017, 1035, 1089, 1107, 1134, 1152, 1206, 1215,
1269, 1278, 1296, 1341, 1377, 1422, 1458, 1494, 1503, 1512, 1521, 1539, 1575

Not all in at once, for example 1575 (presumably Farda) was one of the
strongest at 0200, but is gone now. The ones that have produced
weakish audio were 1134, 1215 (Virgin at 0310, but sounded like the
Russian at 0335), and 1089 (Russian signed on at 0300, but heard traces
of the UK station at 0320). For some reason the lower part of the dial
was much less productive here than Walt observed. On the whole
carriers seem somewhat weaker now, peaking around 0300 at this QTH.

I had to go out for a bit, so left the SDR running in my absence. Doing a
bandscan between 02:57 and 03:15 showed many carriers, especially on the upper
band as well as weak audio on 1134 (Croatia), 1215 (Virgin), 1269...which has
snippets of audio (?DLF) as I type this at 03:21. 1008, 1089 and 1422 are
almost audios, whith another half dozen 4s. Lots of 1 to 3s as well. Might
or might not develop into anything, although the Farda on 1575 with pretty
decent audio earlier may be a good indicator of things to come..Walt.

I first checked on Walt's first post, but heard only faint hets on 1134,
1215, 1377, but nil on 1575. I was also tied up for a while, so have
just returned, and now have 17 carriers on a quick scan. Mostly on the
upper portion of the band (interestingly just the opposite of recent TP
reception), with 1089, 1134, 1269 and 1215 having momentary audio every
now and again. 1215 was quite listenable a couple of minutes ago (i.e.

Very interesting, I had a tentative of Kaliningrad last month, but
tonight it was Virgin I was hearing. On the night I heard Kaliningrad
I also heard Russia on 1089, so that might bear watching. Highlight
here was a few minutes of English on 1548, but don't know what station
as it vanished before any IDs. Second time this season I've heard
English there just after 0400.

Thanks for the tip, Walt. Fascinating, in that the rest of the band
is somewhat fady carriers, and 1215 is at reasonable level with at
man talking in RR at 0432, with Virgin Radio having been in earlier,

Well, lots of carriers, some on unusual frequencies.

Only reasonable audio has been 1215, seeing I missed the best of Farda-1575.

Other audios have been 1134, 1269, both weak and fleeting, as well
as 954 and 1017, but not strong enough to give any real clues as to
language. 1494 has had a good carrier at times, but no audio.

Colin, they can fade up to pretty strong levels, and then down to nothing.
Easy to follow on the SDR. No sign of anyone else except for Kalinigrad, which
is considered it's own radio country (this was Prussia before the end of WW

Good Evening,

With the A index 1 and the K index 0 maybe a few TAs with travel to the NW
tonight. Aimed the EWE NE and some Canadian stations are in a 4:10 PM
PST. CKKY Wainwright, AB is booming in. Any TAs heard in the Eastern and
Central time zones?
