[IslamCity] Fall of Adam According to the Bible the Quran

2005-12-31 Thread Alan Border

“ There is among them a section who distort the Book with their tongues: (As they read) you would think it is a part of the Book, but it is no part of the Book; and they say, "That is from Allah," but it is not from Allah: It is they who tell a lie against Allah, and (well) they know it!” (Al-Qur'an, 3:78 Aal-E-Imran [The Family of Imran])Fall of Adam – According to the Bible the QuranAccording to the Bible The Judeo Christian conception of the creation of Adam Eve is narrated in detail in Genesis Chapters 2 3. Some of the main points from these 2 chapters are:1. Adam is Put to the Garden of Eden “The Lord God took the man put him in the Garden of Eden to work it takecare of it. And the Lord God commanded the man,
‘You are free to eat fromany tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of knowledge ofgood evil, fro when you eat of it you will surely die”. (Genesis 2:15-17)2. Creation of Eve “Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man he brought her to the man.” (Genesis 2:22)3. Serpent Seduces Eve “Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord Godhad made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat fromany tree in the garden’? The woman said to the serpent, ‘We may eat fruit fromthe trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘ You must
not eat fruit from the treethat is in the middle of the garden you must not touch it, or you will die.” Youwill not surely die, the serpent said to the woman. For God knows that whenyou eat of it, your eyes will be opened you will be like God, knowing good evil.” (Genesis 3:1-5).4. Eve Seduces Adam “….She (Eve) took some (fruit) ate it. She also gave some to her husband,
who was with her he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together madecoverings for themselves” (Genesis 3:6-7)5. Adam Blames Eve When Rebuked by God “The man said, ‘The woman you put here with me – she gave me some fruitfrom the tree I ate it.” (Genesis 3:12)6. God Almighty Punishes the Serpent “So the Lord
God said to the serpent, ‘Because you have done this, cursed areyou above all the livestock all the wild animals. You will crawl on your belly you will eat dust all the days of your life I will put enmity between you thewoman, between your offspring hers; he will crush your head you willstrike his heel.” (Genesis 3:14-15)7. God Almighty Punishes the Woman “To the woman he said, ‘I will greatly increase your pains in child bearing, withpain you will give birth to children.
You desire will be for your husband, hewill rule over you.” (Genesis 3:16)8. God Almighty Punishes the Man “To Adam he said , ‘Because you listened to your wife ate from the treeabout which I commanded you ‘You must not eat of it’. ‘Cursed is the groundbecause of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. Itwill produce thorns thistles for you you will eat the plants of the field. Bythe
sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are to dust you will return.”(Genesis 3:17-19)According to the Quran
“O Adam! Dwell thee thy wife in the Garden, enjoy (its good things) as ye wish : but approach not this tree, or ye run into harm transgression. ““Then began Satan to whisper suggestion to them, bringing openly before their minds all their shame that was hidden from them (before) : he said “Your Lord only forbade you this tree, lest you should become angels or such beings as live forever”. And he swore to them both, that he was their sincere advisor.”“So by deceit he
brought about their fall : when they tasted of the tree. Their shame became manifest to them, they began to sew together the leaves of the garden over their bodies.”“And their Lord called unto them : “Did I not forbid you that tree tell you that Satan was an avowed enemy unto you? They said : “Our Lord we have wronged our own souls : If thou forgive us not bestow not upon us thy mercy, we shall certainly be lost. ““(Allah) said : “Get ye down with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling place your means of livelihood for a
time. He said : “There in shall you live therein shall you die : but from it shall you be taken out (at last)” (Chapter 7:19-25) The Quran places equal blame on both Adam Eve. Nowhere in the Quran do we find that Eve tempted Adam or ate the fruit before him. Eve in the Quran is No temptress, No Seducer No Deceiver Eve
isn’t to be blamed for the pains of childbearing. Both Adam Eve committed a sin asked forgiveness from God both were forgiven.AB [EMAIL PROTECTED]"For to us will be their return; then it will be for us to call them to account." (Holy

He is now a professor in religious studies at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill. His book is also Very Interesting, entitled: "Misquoting Jesus : The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why" by Bart Ehrman.Book Description When world-class biblical scholar Bart Ehrman first began to study the texts of the Bible in their original languages he was startled to discover the multitude of mistakes and intentional alterations that had been made by earlier translators. In Misquoting Jesus, Ehrman tells the story behind the mistakes and changes that ancient scribes made to the New Testament and shows the great impact they had upon the Bible we use today. He frames his account with personal reflections on how his study of the Greek manuscripts made him abandon his once ultraconservative views of the Bible. Since the advent of the printing press and the
accurate reproduction of texts, most people have assumed that when they read the New Testament they are reading an exact copy of Jesus's words or Saint Paul's writings. And yet, for almost fifteen hundred years these manuscripts were hand copied by scribes who were deeply influenced by the cultural, theological, and political disputes of their day. Both mistakes and intentional changes abound in the surviving manuscripts, making the original words difficult to reconstruct. For the first time, Ehrman reveals where and why these changes were made and how scholars go about reconstructing the original words of the New Testament as closely as possible. Ehrman makes the provocative case that many of our cherished biblical stories and widely held beliefs concerning the divinity of Jesus, the Trinity, and the divine origins of the Bible itself stem from both intentional and accidental alterations by scribes -- alterations that dramatically affected all subsequent versions of
the Bible. Book Review:: My favorite read all year!, December 25, 2005 Reviewer: J. Boek (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviewsI found Bart Ehrman's book Misquoting Jesus to be very engaging and informative. I feel that he used ample examples and evidence to support his arguments without becoming too repetitive or overwhelming the reader with too much information. Personally it was refreshing to hear someone tell a story (his "testimony" at the beginning) that so closely mirrors my own. As a young convert to Christianity I too had accepted not only Jesus as my savior, but also the Bible as the inerrant word of God. And as a student at bible college preparing for missionary service I began to consider certain errors and inconsistencies in the Bible. Questions concerning the authority and accuracy of the Bible are of paramount importance because, as I understood it (and
still do today) without the Bible there is no Christian faith, and no basis for any authority in Christian doctrine, all of which are derived from the teachings of the Bible. One of the reviewers, obviously a fundamentalist Christian, took exception to many points contained within Ehrman's book. I would like to comment on some of the points he made (his remarks are contained within quotes). "I suspect the TRUE story of the reasons for his conversion [from Christianity to agnosticism] is buried somewhere in the layers of Bart Ehrman's conscience." A typical reaction by the born-again crowd to someone who no longer believes. Ehrman must be in the grips of the devil to turn away from Jesus as he is portrayed in the Bible. There is no other logical, reasonable explanation why someone would choose not to believe in Jesus. The reviewer says Ehrman's research is more suitably applied to "some other poppycock," like the claims of Joseph Smith. Well sir, as the old joke goes:
What's the white stuff in bird poop? That's bird poop too. It often bothered me as a young Christian how vigorously Christian apologists would attack other religion's doctrines (Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc.) and then fail to apply the same rigorous standards of proof and critical thinking to their own belief system. "Ehrman is postulating nothing that the Christian church has not been aware of for literally thousands of years." Maybe that's true, but I have never read such a lucid book on the subject. And I found numerous examples there which I hadn't known about before. In my studies at bible college I came across the same figures which

2005-12-31 Thread F Sabil

Assalam alaikum,Brother Farrukh, that was a good mail. Of course Islam encourages all to read. The first ayat that was revealed exhorted mankind to Read! in the name of Allah. But, before we criticize the "Taliban insurgents" who have executed a teacher, I feel it is our prime responsibility to verify if the reported news is indeed true. In the wake of incidents like 9/11, I am never sure of any news in the media these days. Allah (swt) knows best.Jazaak Allahu Khair F Sabil[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Assalam alaikum,A man once asked Prophet Muhammad to explain the meaning of faith. For theseindividual as well as those needing some help, the guidelines ofmorality are outlined in the Islamic sources, the Quran and Sunnah. The failing of Muslims stems from our inability to either understandthe natural feelings of justice, denial of the rights of men and womenor simple ignorance of faith. It comes then of no surprise that with a population in excess of abillion adherents, incidents will occur where individuals andmovements have misunderstood the absolute fundamentals of faith, substituting them for a bitter interpretation. Yesterday (December17th 2005) the news reported a teacher in Afghanistan being executedby Taliban insurgents, his crime, he refused to stop teaching girls atschool. The word Taliban is the Persian and Pushto plural for
the Arabic wordTalib, meaning `seeker' or `student'. Generally it is defined as aperson who studies the religious sources of Islam, the Quran andHadith. From the honor of Abu Talib, the Prophet's uncle whoseauthority would protect the Prophet from the injustices of thepersecuting Arab pagans, to the famous texts such as Minhaj at-Talibanby an-Nawawi, the words Talib and Taliban have always been held inesteem. In today's context, the word has a much darker association. The famous incident between Mohlan and Amir illustrates the sacrednessof life and the severity of murder. They had an argument in the daysbefore they had both accepted Islam. When their paths crossed onMohlan's way to a battle, he took out his bow and killed Amir with anarrow. When Prophet Muhammad learned of this incident he cried out`May Allah never forgive you!' – as Mohlan killed Amir without reason.Hearing this Mohlan died some days later in sorrow and the
peopleburied him. The next day however, they found his body laying on theground. It was reported to the Prophet and then they buried him again, except this time, deeper. The following day his body was again foundon the ground, and the matter again reported to the Prophet to whichhe said, `The earth accepts worse people than him but Allah Almightyhas decided to make him the subject of a lesson for the people.' Thelesson being that killing a person unjustly is not an act of piety, itis not an act of truth, it is not an act becoming a true believer, amumin, someone who knows and understands Islam. And it was in responseto this incident that verse 93 of Surah an Nisa (4) was revealed.[Al Bidayah, vol IV, p 224]As for education, how can it be that some amongst the Muslims havesuch a poor understanding of Islam that they fail to recognise theskills, the contributions, the efforts of the early Muslim women. Moreover did not the
Prophet teach women? Did not Imam Malik recordwomen coming to the Prophet taking him by his hand asking himquestions? Were not verses of the Quran revealed directly in responseto women seeking answers to questions? Would these men have killed Imam Malik for teaching Amina Ramlyah, oreven Imam Shafi who also taught her? Amina, who later became a femalescholar of Islam and is reported to have narrated more than a hundredhadith? Would these men have killed the nobles of Basra who in thesecond century AH would visit the home of Aliyah bin Hasan to discussreligious and Islamic law? When Imam Zuhri told Qasim ibn Muhammad togo the assembly of Amra bint Abdal Rahan to seek knowledge, did heobject by virtue of her gender or did he describe her as `an ocean ofknowledge'?In fact from the six main collections of hadith, the Sahih of Bukhari, the Sahih of Muslim, the Sunan of Abu Dawood, the Sunan of Ibn Majah, the Sunan of
an-Nasai and the Sunan of Tirmidhi, over 2000 hadith havebeen related from more than 150 women. Education has always been atthe forefront of Islam, be it teaching men or women, by men or women.Allah Almighty said, "The soul of the other led him to the murder ofhis brother: he murdered him but he himself became one of the lost ones"[Surah al-Maida (5): 30]The verse above seems the most apt description of those who have actedso unjustly towards the teacher whose only `crime' it seems, was toeducate in the same tradition of the many men and

[IslamCity] Hajj Tips: Part 1: Avoiding crowds

2005-12-31 Thread Habib
Hajj Tips: Part 1: Avoiding crowds

With millions of persons performing hajj every year, it's easy to find one
self in heavy crowded areas during the rituals of Hajj. Follows a few tips
on how to handle these situation.

The Whys

Most of the deaths we hear of during Hajj results from stampede in
overcrowded areas. These people don't willingly jump to their death. But
they are the silent followers that flock with the mass walking forward and
suddenly find themselves in a very compressed area where a lot of pushing
and pressing and elbowing are taking place. Neither can they return back nor
can they get aside. The whole human mass begins to wave forward and
backward, those that can't keep up with it, fall down, while others stomp
over them and they die.

Don't! Avoid all dangererous crowd
=
A common mistake is to flock with the rest and advance silently. Especially
it happens during the stoning of the devil. Always look ahead a few hundred
meters and confirm that you are not approaching a dangerously overcrowded
area. Dangerously overcrowded areas are those, from where you can't return
back at will.

Be patient, even if you feel strong
===
Don't count on your strength, or think well these people are stoning and
returning, why can't I? Be patient. Even if you don't die, don't let
yourself be the cause of another Muslim's death. If you find the area
crowded, wait, or better return to your tent. And don't forget to ask help
from Allah before the start of every ritual, . . . Fa yassir hu li,
therefore please make it easy for me. Insha Allah, He will make it easy for
you.

Choose your time wisely
===
By choosing your time correctly you can avoid a lot of crowed and hardship.
Follows a few tips on those.

Stoning 1st day, Dil-hajj 10 th
Don't attempt to stone before noon. The time between 8 o'clock in the
morning to 10 o'clock is the most dangerous. Most of the death during
stoning occurs at this date, at this time and in this ritual. The last
incident was in 2004 when 350 pilgrims died. And it wasn't the first such.
The situation will probably improve now, after the last year's modification
of the Jamarat area by extending the pillars. But then again, it's better
that we are aware of the incidents that happened here.
.
The crowd falls dramatically after noon. Visit then. Women and olds can
stone after sunset at night. The place is almost empty at that time.

And choose your place
=
Stoning can be performed from over the bridge or from under it. On the first
day of stoning, generally the area under the bridge less crowded than the
area above (opposite to what one may sense). This tip is not final, because
the situation might change depending on human flow control by police. But in
most cases the above is true.

The crowd moves like a column to the Jamarat pillars. Therefore the Jamarat
area that falls right in the front of you while approaching from Mina, is
the most crowded place. If you take a little patient, and walk pass it from
the side, and approach the pillar from it's behind, you will find that place
far less crowded. This tip holds true for every pillar for every day of
stoning. The tip again, if you find the Jamarat pillar area crowded, walk
pass it and then approach from behind, not from the front.

Next: Part 2 Inshall Allah

Feel free to forward it to anyone you think will benefit from these
information, with corrections that you deem is necessary. Remember to
forward me a copy of your own tips.

Was-salam.
Your brother in Islam.

[IslamCity] Weak Determination

messages Weak Determination It may be described thus - a person accepts the call of a mission with earnestness. In the beginning, he shows much passion towards it. But his interest fades with the passage of time. He then shows no sign of interest in that mission nor retains any sincere attachment with the group engaged in the mission; which he had joined willingly. The first sign of weak determination is the attitude of dodging work. One tries to escape from taking up responsibilities. He begins to avoid the employment of his time, labour and money in the way of his mission, and begins to give preference to every other worldly interest in comparison to the cause he had
adopted as aim of life. It is not a serious matter if a person gets lazy in due course and becomes inactive, but once a weakness gets the upper hand, other faults begin to show themselves. The person invents different pretexts for this inaction and comes up with lame excuses. This sets the stage of moral degradation for the person. The person finds fault with the attitude of others only to hide his own drawbacks. This betrays moral bankruptcy. Every individual and group taking up the mission of reform and reconstruction should remain aware of the danger of weakness of determination and get ready for its eradication as soon as initial signs of the vice appear. New Trend's Persons of the Year
The Shoora of Jamaat al-Muslimeen sent the following nominations for PERSONS of the YEAR for publication in New Trend. These nominations do not necessarily mean that we endorse everything these individuals do or say. The nomination focuses on the specific achievements listed in front of each name:

1. Minister Louis Farrakhan. For the Millions More March which picked up from where the Million Man March had left off and surpassed it. Minister Farrakhan speaks to Christians and Muslims alike as no one else can. He has the spiritual power to express the ethos of the African-American angst. His verbalization of the Katrina disaster captured the essence of the agony of  Black  America and the racism which is rampant in this beautiful land.

2. Cindy Sheehan. For her attempted confrontation with President Bush and her pursuit of him to Crawford ranch in her attempts to end the war in Iraq. Her protest, bold and courageous as it was, coming from a mother whose son was killed in Iraq, tipped the scales of public opinion against President Bush and the Jewish-Zionist war machine.

3. Lynne Stewart. For her total sacrifice of herself, her time, money and abilities in her efforts to defend the rights of the blind Shaikh Dr. Omar 'Abdel Rahman, so much so that she herself has been convicted of "terrorism." She stands for all that is decent in America. Her struggle is linked to the key factor in the rule of law: the attorney-client relationship. As a grandmother, she faces the most evil attempt of the Bush administration to crush those who oppose its will.

4. Ramsey Clark. For his defense of President Saddam Hussain and his bold _expression_ that those who are involved in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay have no right to try the victimized President whose country has been occupied by military force in violation of all the norms of international law. Mr. Clark has consistently stood for rule of law, fair trial, justice and opposition to imperalism around the world.

5. Khaled Mish'al. For his uncompromising opposition to the Israeli occupation of Palestine. He has been the target of numerous attempts by Israel to assassinate him. As leader of the Islamic Resistance movement in Palestine, he has not sold out in an atmosphere where temptation and betrayal are always around the corner. He was exiled first to Jordan and then to Syria.

6. Sami al-Arian. This university professor of Palestinian descent  in Southern Florida is a soft spoken friend of America who never thought he would be branded as a "terrorist." His spiritual strength and resilience surfaced when he was arrested, humiliated and mistreated in prison. He was steadfast in his suffering and recently a jury found that the most serious charges against him could not be substantiated. He has become symbol of righteousness for Muslim Americans who want the freedom of _expression_ to support the rights of the Palestinian people.

7. Nadrat Siddique. In America's history, Nadrat, a Pakistani-American, was the first Islamic woman to stand up for the defense of political prisoners. In particular, she organized the Committee to Free Shaikh Omar 'Abdel Rahman which gained support coast-to-coast when many Muslim men were running to sever all links with the Shaikh after his arrest. She wrote a new chapter in the history of America's Muslims by challenging the government's attempts to victimize the Shaikh. The history of Islamic human rights activism in America begins with her efforts.

8. Abdurrahman Dilipak is one of the most active defenders of Islam in Turkey through his articles/column in the Vakit newspaper. For many years, he and his group have developed newspapers and he consistently promotes the concept of Ummah in his articles and has not wavered from the orders of the Holy Qur'an and Sunnah, especially these days when many Muslim writers are wavering because of EU politics or because of so-called global democratic movements.   He is not only a good writer but knowledgeable in Islam. He is a good role model for  young Muslim writers whose intention is to work  solely for Islam. He is constantly being brought to court because of his truthful writings about Islam. For

nephew,in reply to his question on an issue of Hijab.
Yours sincerely,
Shah Abdul Hannan

Dear Hasan,Assalamu
Alaikum,In respect to your question, I will summaries the mainpoints of
the rule that Muslim Women can keep theirface open.1. The Quranic
Verse 31 of Sura Noor (part) says “Illama Jahara Minha” (except what is
apparent thereof)require interpretation. The majority of The
Scholars(including Abu Hanifa, Imam Shafi, Malik, Dr.Qaradawi, Syed
Qutub, Dr, Jamal Badawi) haveinterpreted as exclusion of face from covering.
Thisis appropriate because the exception of the versesurely mentions
about voluntary exclusion of a part ofthe body not involuntary
exclusion.2. Covering the face can not be obligatory, then
theProphet (SM) would not have commanded the women
tokeep their face open in Hajj (this is done publicly)and during Salat
(women have to keep face open even ifthey offer prayer in the
Mosque).3. There is tradition to the effect when Prophet (SM)advised
Asma (R.A.) that women should not keep anypart of the body open except face
and forehand.4. There is also no clear(Qati )Quranic text which
askswomen to cover face.Apart from these textual arguments,
women require tokeep their face open to effectively perform theirsocial
duty for herself, for the community and for theUmmah. Please also

[IslamCity] WHO WE REALLY ARE?

2005-12-31 Thread Soul Power

WHO WE REALLY ARE?The song “The Golden Eagle” by Anthony de Mello, in which the eagle dies believing he is a chicken, illustrates this.In the song, a man found an eagle’s egg and put it in the nest of a backyard hen. The eaglet hatched with the brood of chicks and grew up with them. All his life the eagle did what the backyard chickens did thinking he was a backyard chicken. He scratched the earth for worms and insects. He thrashed his wings and flew only a few feet into the air. Years passed and the eagle grew old. One day he saw a magnificent bird far above him in the cloudless sky, gliding in graceful majesty on the powerful
wind currents with scarcely a beat of its string, golden wings. The old eagle looked up in awe.“Who’s that?” he asked.“That’s the eagle, the king of the birds,” said his neighbor. “He belongs to the sky. We chickens belong to the earth. It’s not
eagle is who he is, who he is born to be.”The poor backyard eagle never reached his fullest potential, his majesty of the sky, because he had no idea who he really was. When we get to know ourselves intimately and unflinchingly, our sense of self-worth begins to grow. Each of us has great potential, but many of us do not use our natural endowments. Sometimes it is because our environment and upbringing, including the beliefs we have about ourselves that come from what other people tell us, put self-defeating obstacles in our path. We cannot help being influenced by outside forces. However, if we focus on looking in
the mirror and seeing who we really are, beyond these influences, our self-confidence and inner power can grow. It is never too late. As long as we are alive, we have an opportunity to look in the mirror.Seven steps to Lasting Happiness Azim Jamal = Soul Power

[IslamCity] Christmas asal usul keboongan kuffar!!!

2005-12-31 Thread Leo Imanov
Christmas

ORIGIN OF THE WORD

The word for Christmas in late Old English is Cristes Maesse, the Mass
of Christ, first found in 1038, and Cristes-messe, in 1131. In Dutch it
is Kerst-misse, in Latin Dies Natalis, whence comes the French Noël,
and Italian Il natale; in German Weihnachtsfest, from the preceeding
sacred vigil. The term Yule is of disputed origin. It is unconnected
with any word meaning wheel. The name in Anglo-Saxon was geol, feast:
geola, the name of a month (cf. Icelandic iol a feast in December).
EARLY CELEBRATION

Christmas was not among the earliest festivals of the Church. Irenaeus
and Tertullian omit it from their lists of feasts; Origen, glancing
perhaps at the discreditable imperial Natalitia, asserts (in Lev. Hom.
viii in Migne, P.G., XII, 495) that in the Scriptures sinners alone,
not saints, celebrate their birthday; Arnobius (VII, 32 in P.L., V,
1264) can still ridicule the birthdays of the gods.

Alexandria. The first evidence of the feast is from Egypt. About A.D.
200, Clement of Alexandria (Strom., I, xxi in P.G., VIII, 888) says
that certain Egyptian theologians over curiously assign, not the year
alone, but the day of Christ's birth, placing it on 25 Pachon (20 May)
in the twenty-eighth year of Augustus. [Ideler (Chron., II, 397, n.)
thought they did this believing that the ninth month, in which Christ
was born, was the ninth of their own calendar.] Others reached the date
of 24 or 25 Pharmuthi (19 or 20 April). With Clement's evidence may be
mentioned the De paschæ computus, written in 243 and falsely ascribed
to Cyprian (P.L., IV, 963 sqq.), which places Christ's birth on 28
March, because on that day the material sun was created. But Lupi has
shown (Zaccaria, Dissertazioni ecc. del p. A.M. Lupi, Faenza, 1785, p.
219) that there is no month in the year to which respectable
authorities have not assigned Christ's birth. Clement, however, also
tells us that the Basilidians celebrated the Epiphany, and with it,
probably, the Nativity, on 15 or 11 Tybi (10 or 6 January). At any rate
this double commemoration became popular, partly because the apparition
to the shepherds was considered as one manifestation of Christ's glory,
and was added to the greater manifestations celebrated on 6 January;
partly because at the baptism-manifestation many codices (e.g. Codex
Bezæ) wrongly give the Divine words as sou ei ho houios mou ho
agapetos, ego semeron gegenneka se (Thou art my beloved Son, this day
have I begotten thee) in lieu of en soi eudokesa (in thee I am well
pleased), read in Luke 3:22. Abraham Ecchelensis (Labbe, II, 402)
quotes the Constitutions of the Alexandrian Church for a dies
Nativitatis et Epiphaniæ in Nicæan times; Epiphanius (Hær., li, ed.
Dindorf, 1860, II, 483) quotes an extraordinary semi-Gnostic ceremony
at Alexandria in which, on the night of 5-6 January, a cross-stamped
Korê was carried in procession round a crypt, to the chant, Today at
this hour Korê gave birth to the Eternal; John Cassian records in his
Collations (X, 2 in P.L., XLIX, 820), written 418-427, that the
Egyptian monasteries still observe the ancient custom; but on 29
Choiak (25 December) and 1 January, 433, Paul of Emesa preached before
Cyril of Alexandria, and his sermons (see Mansi, IV, 293; appendix to
Act. Conc. Eph.) show that the December celebration was then firmly
established there, and calendars prove its permanence. The December
feast therefore reached Egypt between 427 and 433.

Cyprus, Mesopotamia, Armenia, Asia Minor. In Cyprus, at the end of the
fourth century, Epiphanius asserts against the Alogi (Hær., li, 16, 24
in P. G., XLI, 919, 931) that Christ was born on 6 January and baptized
on 8 November. Ephraem Syrus (whose hymns belong to Epiphany, not to
Christmas) proves that Mesopotamia still put the birth feast thirteen
days after the winter solstice; i.e. 6 January; Armenia likewise
ignored, and still ignores, the December festival. (Cf. Euthymius,
Pan. Dogm., 23 in P.G., CXXX, 1175; Niceph., Hist. Eccl,, XVIII, 53
in P.G., CXLVII, 440; Isaac, Catholicos of Armenia in eleventh or
twelfth century, Adv. Armenos, I, xii, 5 in P.G., CXXII, 1193; Neale,
Holy Eastern Church, Introd., p. 796). In Cappadocia, Gregory of
Nyssa's sermons on St. Basil (who died before 1 January, 379) and the
two following, preached on St. Stephen's feast (P.G., XLVI, 788; cf,
701, 721), prove that in 380 the 25th December was already celebrated
there, unless, following Usener's too ingenious arguments
(Religionsgeschichtliche Untersuchungen, Bonn, 1889, 247-250), one were
to place those sermons in 383. Also, Asterius of Amaseia (fifth
century) and Amphilochius of Iconium (contemporary of Basil and
Gregory) show that in their dioceses both the feasts of Epiphany and
Nativity were separate (P.G., XL, 337 XXXIX, 36).

Jerusalem. In 385, Silvia of Bordeaux (or Etheria, as it seems clear
she should be called) was profoundly impressed by the splendid Chilhood
feasts at Jerusalem. They had a definitely

Economic Freedom in the Arab World
by Ian Vásquez
Ian Vásquez is director of the Project on Global
Economic Liberty at the Cato Institute
The idea economic freedom is essential to human
progress catches on in the Arab world. At a gala dinner here attended by
hundreds of Arab diplomats and other prominent guests, a new Omani organization,
the International Research Foundation, released an "Economic Freedom of the Arab
World" report showing how big differences in policies in the region can produce
big differences in economic outcomes.
The report looks at 39 variables in 16 countries, ranging from
size of government to monetary policy, trade openness, regulation and the rule
of law. Published in conjunction with the Fraser Institute, whose global index
on economic freedom is well known, the report suggests what is true of the world
is also true in the Arab region: Economically free countries tend to be more
prosperous and faster growing.
"The Arab world is a patchwork quilt of economic regimes," says
the study. Thus, the extent of voluntary exchange, the security of property
rights, the freedom to compete and freedom of choice vary widely. Lebanon and
Oman tie for first place in economic freedom, while the United Arab Emirates and
Kuwait tie for second. Syria and Algeria rank at the bottom.
Some observers may not be surprised that the economically freer
countries, dominated by the oil states, tend to have higher incomes. Oman and
Kuwait have per capita incomes of $13,032 and $17,073 respectively, while
Syria's per capita income is only $3,651, for example.
But oil is not always a blessing. Many countries are rich in oil
but, because their governments have easy access to oil wealth, little is done to
improve their overall economies and the material conditions of their citizens.
Oil wealth becomes an impediment to economic freedom. The "oil curse" has
afflicted such countries as Venezuela, Nigeria, Mexico and Russia.
The oil curse isn't quite as severe in the Gulf. Oil states in
general perform better than other Arab states. The reason for this may be
related to trade. It is notable that the oil states included in the report (Iraq
was not because of lack of data) have long maintained relatively high freedom to
trade. A liberal trade regime is important because it creates a domestic
political dynamic that encourages people to be productive rather than seek
favoritism from government.
In short, freer trade reduces special interests' ability to
reduce economic freedom, and it may even help increase economic freedom in other
areas.
United Arab Emirates has played an especially positive role in
promoting trade and economic freedom. Salem al Ismaily, co-author of the Arab
economic freedom index, points to the UAE -- the Gulf country with the
longest-maintained liberal trade regime -- as providing a demonstration for
neighboring states. As its trade remained relatively free during the last 20
years, the UAE steadily increased freedom in other areas of its economy,
attracting investment and producing growth. Other countries emulated the
example. Policy competition among countries is as important as competition in
the market.
Still, the report notes that, in the Arab world, "most types of
economic interaction... remain remarkably limited and inconsequential." Trade
among Middle Eastern countries represents only about 8 percent of the region's
trade. The lack of economic freedom in many Arab countries limits commerce so
richer states "find better and cheaper products outside the region rather than
in the region's labor-endowed states, where economic freedom tends to be
relatively low."
Other problems still remain even in the more economically free
Arab countries. Unemployment is a high 15 percent in Oman, for example, and its
government, which employs about half the Omani labor force, is large.
Fortunately, the country seems aware its oil reserves will not last forever and
so has continued increasing its economic freedom.
Such progress in Oman, other Gulf countries and Lebanon offer
hope all Arab nations can achieve and sustain
prosperity.

Respected Brothers and Sisters,

This write-up will explain as why the theory of Divine Creation is
"intentionally and purposefullyrejected by the secular world. It exposes
their game plan. Judge Jones was only its subservient. I would love to have your
comments, if any.

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the

“INTELLIGENT DESIGN” AND
“EVOLUTION”

[Shamim A Siddiqi,
New
York]

Judge John Jones III a republican
appointed by President Bush has rejected the concept of “Intelligent Design” as
it tantamount to the theory of Creation in his ruling on last Tuesday [December
20, 2005] in his judgment in an appeal filed by the Dover school board,
Harrisburg, Pa. as it is beyond the scope of science to analyze it
scientifically. He asserted that it violates the First amendment of the US
Constitution. He opines so much in spite of his acceptance that Darwin’s “Theory
of Evolution is imperfect” and cannot explain its every aspect, (but) it should
not be used as a pretext to thrust an untenable alternative hypothesis grounded
in religion into a science class room to misrepresent well established
scientific propositions”

Judge Jones even accepting the imperfectness of
the theory of Evolution still insists not to entertain in any way the theory of
Creation to be taught in the class room and thus keep the boys and girls of his
generation and generations to come blind of the fallacies of one man’s
[Darwin’s] imagination or just his guess work about the growth of animate
objects in nature or to be more precise the “humans’. His obstinacy and short
sightedness about the laws of nature is obvious. He has made the supporters of
secular cults happy. Alternatively, he should have been able to explain the
“missing link” of the theory of Evolution as when and at what stage of evolution
humans became “conscious specie” and how they got the power of thinking and
_expression_, the “Nutq”, the power of Al-Bayan [speaking and expressing his mind
to his fellow being]. .Instead of accepting these shortcomings he became
becoming adamant in supporting
Darwin’s unproven “guess” work till
to day. He should have thrown this theory out side the classroom and save
millions of students from keeping them in ignorance in the name of science. He
abhors the existence of an “Intelligent Design” but could not advance any other
thinking process to explain the “missing link”. This is called the rigidity or
the “oppressive design” of scientific cruelty.

However, if Judge John had thought over the
cosmos, its planning, make up and growth from its inception to this day, he
would have definitely concluded that both the theory of Creations and Evolution
have been working

[IslamCity] Hajj Tips: Part 2: Dealing with the crowd.

2005-12-31 Thread Habib
Hajj Tips: Part 2: Dealing with the crowd.

Sometimes it's impossible to avoid the crowd, but rather we have to deal
with it. Follows some helpful tips in those situations.

Get ready BEFORE you enter the crowd
=
First open your slippers and pack those somewhere. Not only will you lose
the slippers if you don't do it, but also a thousand such slippers will
stack up and cause others to tumble. Such stacks are one major reason why
people tumble to death in dense crowds.

Next put both your hands straight down, don't fold you elbow and press or
touch the one in front of you. This tip specially applies during Tawaf,
while approaching the black near the black stone, when the crowd is almost
always heavy. Now to keep your balance . . .

Press backwards, and NOT forward
==
The crowd will always press you from your back. But remember NOT to counter
your balance by pressing the person in front of you. Rather lean back and
start pushing backwards using your back. Thus you will give support to the
one right behind you and also help the pressure from being propagating
forward. An important condition for Mabrub Hajj is that we don't directly
harm anyone neither do we indirectly cause any trouble to any one. And don't
stand still. Continue crawling forward inch by inch while the area cleans
up, all while you are pressing back.

Choose your time for performing Tawaf

Most heavy crowd: After Fajar salat to 8:00 morning. And after Asar till
Magrib.
Comparatively light: From 8:00 morning to 10:00.
The above is day time statistics only.

It takes about 30 minutes to perform a Tawaf during light population. That
time can rise up to 2 hours in heavy dense situations.

Best time for stoning
===
10 th Dhul Hajj: Any time after 1:00 noon.

11 th Dhul Hajj: Density is almost constant through out the day spanning
over to mid night, though not as high as the first day. But still dense
enough to be careful. Best time seems to be after 2:00 to 4:00 at noon.

12 th Dhul Hajj: On this day most people want to stone and leave Mina before
sunset. This brings in yet another rush in the first hours. The crowd is
extremely dense starting from 12:00 till 3:00. But falls down at around 4:00
afternoon. Pick this time, if you can do so. You still will have ample of
time still to leave Mina before sunset. Remember reaching Makka before
sunset is not the conditions here! Just crossing the border of Mina is. And
border of Mina is only a 5 to 10 minute walk from the Jamarat area.

To be continued in part 3: Insha Allah

Feel free to forward it to anyone you think will benefit from these
information, with corrections that you deem is necessary. Remember to
forward me a copy of your own tips.

Was-salam.
Your brother in Islam.

[IslamCity] Question: Why is eating Pork Haram?

2005-12-31 Thread Andrea Peterson

From: Anna [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Subject: Fwd: Re: [Quran wa Sunnah] Question: Why is eating Pork Haram?

Asalaamu Alaikom,

May Allah ubha hu Ta Alalh bless you all.

May I add one more fact to the this wonderful note on why eating
pork is harm in Islam. in relation to Pork/Swine, which may come as
a surprise and convincing reason why eating port meat or other
parts is harm and bad for human consumption:

  1. Pork meat contains a much higher proportion of amino acid,
building block of proteins that are closely matched with human
amino acid. Anyone can wish to eat a human flesh or any meat that
is close to it? I think not.
  2. Pork has a natural habit of eating, touching and living in
dirt, which is a bank of all kind of bacteria, fungus and viruses
that are highly contagious and causing disease of all sort. Most of
these disease-forming pathogens in one form or another find its way
into various organs of a swine. Any consumption of swine parts may
cause various form of disease and problems in human.
  3. Pork harbour pathogens that may find its way in to human body
and cause maladies.

All this goes to prove the validity and hikmah of Quraan and word
of Allah Subha hu Ta Alalh.

I hope this information is useful to you all.

[IslamCity] SAHABA E RASOOL S.A.W. - HAZRAT AL-BARAA IBN MALIK AL ANSARI R.A.

2005-12-31 Thread Saba Khan
AL-BARAA IBN MALIK AL-ANSARI

His hair looked dishevelled and his whole appearance
was unkempt. He was thin and wiry with so little flesh
on his bones that it was painful to look at him. Yet
in single- handed combat he defeated and killed many
opponents and in the thick of battle he was an
outstanding fighter against the mushrikeen. He was so
courageous and daring that Umar once wrote to his
governors throughout the Islamic state that they
should not appoint him to lead any army out of fear
that he would have them all killed by his daring
exploits. This man was al-Baraa ibn Malik al- Ansari,
the brother of Anas ibn Malik, the personal aide of
the Prophet.

If the tales of Baraa's heroism were to be told in
detail, pages and pages could be written. But let one
example suffice.

This particular story begins only hours after the
death of the noble Prophet when many Arabian tribes
took to leaving the religion of God in large numbers,
just as they had entered it in large numbers. Within a
short space of time only the people of Makkah, Madinah
and Taif and scattered communities here and there,
whose commitment to Islam was unwavering, remained
within the religion.

Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, the successor to the Prophet,
stood firm against this blind and destructive
movement. From the Muhajireen and Ansar, he mobilized
eleven armies each under a separate commander and
despatched them to various parts of the Arabian
peninsula. Their purpose was to make the apostates
return to the path of guidance and truth and to
confront the leaders of the rebellion.

The strongest group of apostates and the greatest in
number were the Banu Hanifah among whom Musaylamah the
Imposter arose, claiming that he was a prophet.
Musaylamah managed to mobilize forty thousand of the
best fighters among his people. Most of these however
followed him for the sake of asabEyyah or tribal
loyalty and not because they believed in him. One of
them in fact said, I testify that Musaylamah is an
imposter and that Muhammad is true but the imposter of
Rabi'ah (Musaylamah) is dearer to us than the true man
of Mudar (Muhammad).

Musaylamah routed the first army sent against him
under the leadership of Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahl. Abu Bakr
despatched another army against Musaylamah led by
Khalid ibn al-Walid. This army included the cream of
the Sahabah from both the Ansar and the Muhajireen. In
the front ranks of this army was Baraa ibn Malik and a
group of the most valiant Muslims.

The two armies met in the territory of the Banu
Hanifah at Yamamah in Najd. Before long, the scale of
battle tilted in favour of Musaylamah and his men. The
Muslim armies began to retreat from their positions.
Musaylamah's forces even stormed the tent of Khalid
ibn Walid and drove him from his position. They would
have killed his wife if one of them had not granted
her protection.

At that point, the Muslims realised in what a perilous
situation they were. They were also conscious of the
fact that if they were annihilated by Musaylamah,
Islam would not be able to stand as a religion and
AllahÑthe One God with whom there is no partnerÑwould
not be worshipped in the Arabian peninsula after that.

Khalid mustered his forces once more and began
reorgamsing them. He separated the Muhajireen and the
Ansar and kept men from different tribes apart. Each
was put under the leadership of one of its own members
so that the losses of each group in the battle might
be known.

The battle raged. There was much destruction and
death. The Muslims had not experienced anything like
this in all the wars they had fought before.
Musaylamah's men remained firm amidst the tumult, as
firm as immovable mountains although many of them had
fallen.

The Muslims displayed tremendous feats of heroism.
Thabit ibn Qays, the standard bearer of the Ansar, dug
a pit and planted himself in it and fought until he
was killed. The pit he dug turned out to be his grave.
Zayd ibn alKhattab, brother of Umar ibn al-Khattab,
may God be pleased with them both, called out to the
Muslims: Men, bite with your jaw teeth, strike the
enemy and press on. By God, I shall not speak to you
after this until either Musaylamah is defeated or I
meet God. He then charged against the enemy and
continued fighting until he was killed. Salim, the
mawla of Abu Hudhaifah, and standard bearer of the
Muhajireen displayed unexpected valour. His people
feared that he would show weakness or be too terrified
to fight. To them he said, If you manage to overtake
me, what a miserable bearer of the Qur'an I shall be.
He then valiantly plunged into the enemy ranks and
eventually fell as a martyr.

The bravery of all these, however, wanes in front of
the heroism of al-Baraa ibn Malik, may God be pleased
with him and with them all.

As the battle grew fiercer and fiercer, Khalid turned
to al-Baraa and said, Charge, young man of the
Ansar. AlBaraa turned to his men and said, O Ansar,
let not anyone of you think of returning to Madinah.
There is no

2005-12-31 Thread Syed Ghaziuddin

Assalaam Alaikum all
brothers and sisters,

Helping our brothren in
all aspects is each individual's responsibility. I think that Islamcity should
start a service for our brothren to help in getting married. First of all check
the authenticity of the individual and then the moderator can put the ad. on circulation.
Hope we could help our brothers and sisters with a good intention of getting
Ajr and not for money.

There was an email from a
male member which I also read but I don't know if he got a wife or disappeared.

May Allah guide us to the
right path.
