[IslamCity] IAEA Sends Iran to UNSC, Tehran Enriches Uranium

2006-02-08 Thread S A Hannan

Dear  editor /members of the
list,

Assalmu Alaikum. The nuclear issue relating to Iran
has taken a serious turn. Please see the news below.A few western powers , as
always, put pressure on others and got their votes and this the west  says
international community. Everybody knows who are behind these moves. The security
council resolutions are mostly problematic as thes are mostly dictated these
days by one power. If any sanction or such  resolution is passed there
, it  is used by the US and takes it as a pretext for starting  a war,
it can start war even without a resolution. I have become tired of sanction
resolutions  in the name of international community ( which is the other
name of US interest these days, sometimes also  of Israel )because of its'
abuse by the US.Any UNSC resolution will complicate situation beyond
control.

IAEA Sends Iran to UNSC, Tehran Enriches
  Uranium

Vaidi branded the resolution as
"politically motivated since it is not based on any legal or
technical grounds."
  VIENNA, February 4, 2006 (IslamOnline.net & News
Agencies) – The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) voted on
Saturday, February 4, to send the Iranian nuclear file to the UN Security
Council, triggering an immediate decision from Tehran to resume full-scale
  uranium enrichment.
The resolution passed by 27-3 with five abstentions,
but puts off any UN action against Iran for at least a month, an IAEA
spokeswoman was quoted as saying by Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The added time is intended in the hopes of a
diplomatic solution to the standoff before the next IAEA meeting in Vienna
  on March 6.
IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei will be filing
a detailed report and assessment of the Iranian nuclear program for the
March meeting of the IAEA's 35-nation board of governors.
The US and Europe claim that the Islamic republic is
seeking nuclear weapons, a claim Tehran categorically denies.
Iran, which insists its nuclear program is purely for
civilian energy purposes, has raised the stakes in the dispute by removing
UN seals on equipment that purifies uranium.
  Compromise
The resolution is a compromise between the US desire
for immediate Security Council action against Iran and Russia's demand for
  a delay for more diplomacy.
Washington has worked, since the IAEA board began
meeting Thursday, to get as many nations on board for what is a historic
step in the international community's confrontation with Iran.
The five permanent Security Council members --
Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States -- and Germany closed
ranks over the resolution to take Iran to the Security Council.
Unlike the IAEA, the Security Council has enforcement
  powers.
Russia, a key trade partner of Iran, hopes Tehran can
be convinced to respond to calls by the IAEA to suspend all nuclear fuel
work and cooperate fully with agency inspectors in order for the crisis to
be defused without the Security Council imposing sanctions.
Moscow is sponsoring a compromise proposal for Iran to
carry out uranium enrichment, which makes what can be nuclear reactor fuel
but also bomb material, in Russia.
  Politically-Motivated
An angry Iran immediately decided to resume full-scale
uranium enrichment in retaliation for being brought before the UN Security
  Council.
"Our government has to implement full-scale
enrichment," Javad Vaidi, head of the Iranian delegation to the IAEA
  meeting told reporters.
He maintained that the resolution "is politically
motivated since it is not based on any legal or technical
  grounds."
Vaidi said Iran "has to bring into force immediately
... the law passed almost unanimously by the parliament in 2005, in order
to suspend the voluntary implementation of Additional Protocol which has
been for three years implemented as if it has been ratified, and the
voluntary suspension of commercial scale enrichment
activities."
The Iranian legislature said that applying the nuclear
Non-Proliferation Treaty's Additional Protocol, which allows for wider
IAEA inspections, and suspending full-scale enrichment should cease if
Iran were brought before the Security Council.
A senior Iranian official warned earlier Saturday that
the government would be unable to halt its nuclear activities if the
country was referred to the council.
"If the case is sent or even reported to the UN
Security Council, based on the law of our parliament, our government

[IslamCity] Response from public at dawah stall about Cartoons

2006-02-08 Thread khan zahid

Dear All A.A   Alhamduallih at the dawah stall  we had a very positive response from the public, most of them were shocked to see that Denmark and France had no right to hurt the feeling of other communities.  Police were very protective towards us because we had a football match at luton football ground also public complained about the al muhajiroun behavior towards public in town center because the public called them to do something about them , AL muhajiroun have started their stall again, we told the police that Islam teaches tolerance and dialogue in best manner.  The police told us
that you are doing a good job by having a stall in town center and  telling/giving leaflets to people and telling them that we should respect each other and live in peace and police  told us  keep it up and other non-Muslims/Muslims told us, it's great to see a stall where we can discuss things in a very best manner.     Guess what brothers/sisters, in luton the AL muhajiroun  are very aggressive and rude , as my uncle who is Consultant
doctor of mental patients, he  said to me once that son watch from Muslims who are talking very rude and aggressively towards non-Muslims/Muslims, the reason for that might be  either they have been paid  by secret service to give islam bad name  or they have been abused  at home by their family members. My uncle told me  If you have studied  Islam for the sake of Allah  you will know how to behave towards other communities or family members. So beware from AL muhajiroun  they are getting strange revert group leaders. May Allah guide all of us and  protect all of us from the evil ameen.
Wasslam Zahid Khan        S<> wrote:al muhajiroun AKA al ghurabaa AKA ahlul sunnah wal jama'a AKA blah... in the main article on this in today's Guardian, it said:     Passersby stopped police officers to ask why the marchers were being allowed to carry banners threatening further suicide attacks in the city. One police officer replied: "Don't worry. We are photographing them." and David Davis is already calling for them to be prosecuted! Hanif AbdulMuhit <> wrote:aa. I was totally shocked and speechless. Does anyone who these guys

Pray you are well.     Did anybody else find these pictures insulting/obscene/offensive?      I am so horrified by these people and their slogans and I am wondering what we can do about it?     Would a protest against these people  - with banners that explained the Prophet’s character – be appropriate? I know
people might say “ends up Muslim against Muslim” but really I want nothing what so ever to do with them. I feel sick when I see these banners…     I was just reading the prayer of Rasulillah after Taif: “O God, to You do I complain of my weakness, of my helplessness, and of my lowliness before men. O Most Merciful of the merciful, You are Lord of the weak. And You are my Lord. Into whose hands will You entrust me? Unto some far off stranger who will ill-treat me? Or unto a foe whom You have empowered against me? I care not, so long as You are not angry with me…”     The prayer goes on, but his gentleness in the face of such provocation was inspiring and it made me love him all the more. The angel came and said that God would cause the mountain to come down on the city if he but gave the word.  Instead he said he wanted to bring them the message.     What message are these people with these placards giving? If we want to defend the honour of the Prophet then surely we should react in a way he would have been pleased with.
Surely therefore we have to counter these protests taking place in London done in the name of the religion we love.     And God knows best.     WasalaamSarah

[IslamCity] 17 Arab Countries Call Danish to punishment ---Labbayk Ya Nabi Muhammed

2006-02-08 Thread Labbayk YaMahdi

17 Arab countries call Danish government to punishment Also other European Country must apologize First page / World02/03/2006 11:37 Source:      Interior ministers from 17 Arab countries have issued a joint statement calling on the government of Denmark "to take the necessary measures to punish those responsible." United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan was officially "concerned." Governments from Pakistan to Syria have demanded apologies not just from Denmark but France, Germany, Norway and other Western European governments.DenmarkBREAKING NEWS Egyptian ferry sinks in Red Sea, killing over 1,000
passengers Iran: Case study for diplomacy Saddam trial falls into chaos soon after
resumptionVirtual autopsy of Egyptian mummyMore...What human rights atrocity has so inflamed their sense of outrage? A Danish newspaper published cartoons. Last September. The daily Jyllands-Posten's cartoons, which have since been reprinted in free-speech solidarity by publications in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Switzerland, not only broke the Koran's strictures against depicting the prophet Muhammad, but one added insult to blasphemy by drawing his turban in the shape of a bomb. The cartoons are undeniably offensive to Muslims. Yet the overreaction by opportunistic, authoritarian governments and backpedaling European officials has been deeply disappointing. Islamic tradition considers any depiction of Muhammad blasphemous. Angry and violent reaction to the cartoons' publication was predictable from radical Islamists, who will seize upon almost any reason to rail against the West.
Armed fanatics in the West Bank and Gaza, for example, stormed European Union offices, kidnapped at least one German (he was later released) and went hunting for Danes, French, Germans and Norwegians at four hotels. The leader of Lebanon's governing Hezbollah faction said this all could have been avoided if only novelist Salman Rushdie had been murdered. Hundreds of students in Pakistan chanted "Death to France" and "Death to Denmark." What's most disheartening is the response from governments in the Middle East and Europe. The former have seized on the opportunity to direct their citizens' considerable anger toward the West. Some European leaders, meanwhile, perhaps overcompensating for government policies widely seen as harmful to Muslim immigrants, are apologizing for one of the core freedoms of a democratic society. Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who for months maintained a sensible position,
that a private newspaper's editorial judgment is not the government's business, is now walking around issuing letters of regret. Norway's deputy foreign minister, Raymond Johansen, traveled to Lebanon to deliver an official apology. Such sentiments foster the dangerous notion that governments are responsible for, and answerable to, their countries' private media. And it judges all news content, satirical or otherwise, by the standard of how much offense it gives, a surefire path toward self-censorship, reports Los Angeles Times. ___ A Danish newspaper has published offensive cartoon images depicting Allah’s Beloved Messenger as a terrorist. Other publications in France and Italy have reprinted these, all claiming the argument of free speech. Muslims do nor fear debate. We are ready to hear and respond to
criticism. But we will not remain silent over a blatant insult to our Prophet. Muslims have been killed in the War on Terror imprisoned in the War on Terror, and the name of our deen slandered in the War on Terror. Qurans have been desecrated in the War on Terror, and now our Prophet’s Noble image has been tarnished by this War on Terror. Thos War on Terror and now our Prophets Noble image has been tarnished by this War on Terror. This War on Terror was said to bring freedom of speech and _expression_ to places like Iraq and Afghanistan. If this means it will bring insults, slander, lies and disrespect to Muslim lands, to create a society where rudeness is celebrated, manners are lacking and lies are cheap, then it is not cause that will ever win over Muslims or other decent people. The Noble Prophet once said:“None of you truly believes until I become more beloved to him than his family wealth and all the
people.”Do not Remain Silent! Use Your Voice to Prove Your Love!Join the Demonstration outside the Danish Embassy11 am Saturday 4th February 200655 Sloane Street, London SW1X 9SR (Nearest tube station Knightsbridge)Organized by Hizb ut-Tahrir and supported by IHRC, MAB,

[IslamCity] Fwd: Condemnation against the Danish Government

Condemnation against the Danish Government

Direct Link: http://www.almujtaba.com/denmark/

     AlMujtaba
Islamic Network condemns and rejects the insulting and racist cartoons
published in Danish newspapers. We condemn the Danish government's
pride and support for the racism against Danish Muslims and other
Muslims all over the world.
The
freedom of _expression_ does not mean and will never mean that the media
or the people start insulting and humiliating fellow citizens, there is
a limit for everything. In Denmark and Norway, under the support of
their governments, the media is creating hate against Muslims by
insulting the Prophet of Islam, Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him and
his progeny). Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him and his progeny) is our love, honor, and identity.
We Muslim will defend the honors of our religion, our holy book,
Qur'an, our beloved, Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him and his
progeny), and the Ahlulbayt (AS).  Muslims will not allow people
to humiliate them in the name of freedom of _expression_.  We
respect the beliefs and the heroes of other religions and we expect the
same from the followers of the other religions or ideologies.
AlMujtaba
Islamic Network urges all freedom lovers, scholars, intellectuals and
academics, and Muslims in any part of the world to boycott Denmark and
Norway products and if the governments of these countries continue
supporting such racist media then the Muslim governments and the Muslim
population have every right to find the alternatives and boycott the Danish and Norwegian products.

Below, you will find a list of Danish products that we ask you to boycott.

Another
reminder, All Danish products' serial numbers start with the number 57
from the left. Read the serial number before buying their products.

That last bit is VERY useful.

[IslamCity] Lies They Spread About Religious Coercion

2006-02-08 Thread DDN

Lies They Spread
About Religious Coercion

by Dr. Habib Siddiqui

These days it has become almost comical to see pen-pushing zealots
vying to draw our attention to prove how much (actually, how little) they know
about Islam. Every John Doe now seems to have an ‘expert’ opinion about Islam.
And most of these opinions tell more about the writer’s mentality -- which are
quite often prejudicial, anti-Muslim and hateful -- than Islam.

Some oft-repeated
jargons are that Islam, more than any other religion, preaches coercion to
spread its message, and that Muslims’ dream of establishing an Islamic Empire or
“Allah’s Empire on Earth” draws its inspiration from its Prophet. For that they
quote a statement attributed to Prophet Muhammad (S) which says, "I was ordered
to fight all men until they say, ‘There is no god but Allah.’"

How true are such accusations? Is the testimony of
faith ‘there is no God but Allah’ any different from ‘The Lord our God is one
Lord?’ (Deut. 6:4)

We know for a fact that Muhammad (S) did not
fight against all men. More
importantly, he forgave his arch enemies - those determined to kill him and his
followers hitherto in Makkah (Mecca) and in many battle fields (after the
nascent Islamic community was established in Madinah) – when he marched with his
10,000 Companions into Makkah and conquered the city without any bloodshed. That
example from the life of the Prophet is something that can hardly be matched by
most Biblical prophets.

Truly, a man is
known in times of adversity and privilege. It is easy to sing ‘we shall
overcome,’ but how many can truly overcome their passion for revenge, especially
when they are victorious and have the upper hand to wreak vengeance? Yet, we
find Muhammad (S) magnanimous to his former foes. He forgave everyone, even those who killed his
beloved uncle, Hamzah, mangled his body, ripped it open, and
chewed a piece of his liver. He said, "This day, there is no REPROOF against you
and you are all free." "This day" he proclaimed, "I trample under my feet all
distinctions between man and man, all hatred between man and man."

When the Prophet was forced to migrate to
Madinah (Medina) in the first year of Hijri (622 CE), a treaty (known as the Charter of Madinah) between Muslims,
non-Muslim Arabs and Jews of Madinah was put into writing and ratified by all
parties. It has been preserved by the historians. It stipulated that “the Jews shall maintain their own
religion and the Muslims theirs... The valley of Yathrib (Medina) shall be sacred and inviolable for all
that join this Treaty.” Thus, we find that far from religious coercion, the
treaty stipulated a city state in Medina, allowing wide autonomy to all
communities – Muslims and non-Muslims.

I am aware that modern-day merchants of hatred
paint the treaty as a gesture of expediency when Islam was weak. But history
belies their assertion. No Christian, no Jew living in the Arabian Peninsula was coerced into embracing Islam when it
became unrivalled. So, it was all too natural for Muhammad (S) to issue the Charter of Privileges to the Monks of
St. Catherine who lived in a monastery on Mount
Sinai (Jabl Musa). The Charter reads: “This is a message from
Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and
far, we are with them. Verily I, the servants, the helpers, and my
followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens; and by Allah! I hold
out against anything that displeases them. No compulsion is to be
on them. Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks
from their monasteries. No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to
damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims' houses. Should
anyone take any of these, he would spoil God's covenant and disobey His Prophet.
Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they
hate. No one is to force them to
travel or to oblige them to fight. The Muslims are to fight for them. If a
female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her
approval. She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray. Their
churches are to be respected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing
them nor the sacredness of their covenants. No one of the nation (Muslims) is to
disobey the covenant till the Last Day (end of the
world)."

As one can see, this Charter consisted of
several clauses covering all important aspects of human rights including such
topics as the protection of minorities living under Islamic rule, freedom of
worship and movement, freedom to appoint their own judges and to own and
maintain their property, exemption from military service, and the right to
protection in war. No small mat

[IslamCity] the implications of the new wave of political Islam sweeping theArab region

2006-02-08 Thread S A Hannan

Dear editor/ members of the list,

Assalamu Alaiku. Please see a very thought-
provoking analysi of  the implications of the new wave of political
Islam sweeping theArab region  from Al- Ahram weekly from
Egypt.

Shah Abdul Hannan

Legitimate interests
Omayma
Abdel-Latif assesses the implications of the new wave of
political Islam sweeping the region

Hours after the stunning victory of the Islamic Resistance Movement,
Hamas, in the Palestinian elections and the Western media machine was
preparing to launch an avalanche of warnings. Some of the commentary
bordered on paranoia as writer after writer questioned whether or not
Hamas's ascendancy heralded the dawn of a new age of Islamist politics
in the Middle East and what this might mean for the West's interests in
the region.
The concerns voiced were hardly new: they reflect a dilemma Western
policy-makers have found themselves in for some time now as they
struggle to come to terms with Muslim democrats whose presence and
integration into the much hyped process of democratisation can no longer
be ignored.
Hamas's landslide victory is the latest in a series of electoral
successes scored by Islamist groups across the Arab world. In Lebanon
three members of Hizbullah, a resistance movement that, like Hamas, is
considered a terrorist organisation by the West, now sit around the
cabinet table. In Iraq the religious United Iraqi Alliance is the key
partner in government following its strong performance in the 15
December parliamentary elections. In Egypt the officially outlawed
Muslim Brotherhood holds 88 seats in the People's Assembly, making it
the largest opposition bloc. In Kuwait, Yemen and Bahrain Islamist
groups constitute the main opposition force. In Morocco the Justice and
Development Party, modelled on the Turkish ruling party, holds 40 seats
and is the main opposition bloc, while in Jordan the Muslim Brothers
have 17 seats in parliament.
But the significance of Hamas's win lies in the fact that it is the
first time an Islamist movement has come to power in an Arab country
through the ballot box. So will the West, which has long claimed that
democracy is a panacea for all the region's woes, accept the outcome of
a process it supposedly backs?
While Hamas's victory may have stunned the world, some Islamists, at
least, had seen the writing on the wall. "Had free and fair elections
been held in this region a decade ago the majority of governments would
have been formed by Islamist parties," Saadeddin Al-Osmani,
secretary-general of the Justice and Development Party, told
Al-Ahram Weekly on Monday.
One of the many questions raised in the wake of the Hamas triumph is
why so many in Arab countries, when they have a chance to exercise the
hard- won right to vote, opt for Islamists. Essam El-Erian, a senior
member of the MB's politburo, believes the Islamists' appeal's mainly to
do with growing frustration with the status quo.
"The current regimes," he says, "have reached such levels of
corruption, cronyism and dependency on the West that they have
completely alienated the people. When they have fair elections, the
people make their opinions clear."
Al-Osmani, like El-Erian, acknowledges that the Islamists do attract
a number of protest votes. Yet in the case of the Justice and
Development Party, Al-Osmani says, there are three categories of voters;
the party's core constituency, the protest voters and others, including
left-leaning voters. "Voters who don't even observe religious
obligations have said they voted for us because we are not corrupt and
have credibility," he says.
The Islamists also benefit from the weakness of liberal and secular
forces, a point underlined by Egypt's prime minister who, in an
interview published in the current Newsweek magazine, says the
Brothers' victory in Egypt was due to "the weakness of secular forces".

"People have no confidence in the old elites, particularly those from
the liberal and secular wings," believes Al-Osmani. "They have had a
chance but failed to deliver and now people want to give the Islamists a
chance."
But how prepared is the West to have Islamists running the Arab
polity? And how prepared are Islamists to take over?
The subject was discussed during a two-day meeting held in Rome last
November between Islamist activists and a group of intellectuals from

Lebanese protesters have set the Danish embassy in
Beirut on fire in protest at the publication of
cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad.

Thousands of people rallied outside the building and
security forces fired tear gas in an attempt to keep
them at bay.

But smoke was later seen rising from the building
housing the Danish mission after demonstrators broke
into it.

On Saturday, Syrian protesters angered by the
cartoons, torched the Danish and Norwegian embassies
in Damascus.

Denmark and Norway condemned Syria for failing to stop
the attacks and urged their citizens to leave the
country.

The demonstration in Beirut descended into violence
when Islamic extremists tried to break through
security barriers protecting the embassy.

Some 2,000 army troops and riot police used tear gas
and water cannons to disperse them and fired their
weapons into the air.

But the onslaught continued and the embassy building
was set ablaze.

Witnesses said at least 10 injured people were taken
away in ambulances, the AP news agency reported.

The embassy building, which also houses commercial
offices, was believed to be unoccupied.

Some people in the crowd are not happy with the
violence, thinking this was going to be a peaceful
demonstration, reports the BBC's Jim Muir from the
scene of the violence.

He says some of the wilder elements in the crowd have
succeeded in turning it into a very angry and quite
violent demonstration.

There were also reports of damage to property in a
Christian area of the city.

'Inexcusable failure'

Norway and Denmark criticised Syria for allowing
Saturday's demonstration to go ahead.

[IslamCity] THE MYTH OF THE SHIAA MAHDI

2006-02-08 Thread Saba Khan
THE MYTH OF THE SHI'IA MAHDI
The 15th of Sha‘baan is a very significant date, both
to the Ahl as-Sunnah and the Shi‘ah. The Shi‘ah,
however, have their own reason for ascribing
significance to this night. To them it is the night of
the birth of their twelfth Imam, the Hidden Mahdi.
Who is this Mahdi whose return to this world is so
eagerly awaited by the Shi‘ah, and belief in whose
existence in occultation forms such a integral aspect
of the Shi'ite psyche? Before an adequate answer to
this question may be given, there is a need to
understand certain aspects concerning the Shi'ite
doctrine of Imamah.
THE SHI'IA MAHDI BACKGROUND
The cornerstone of the Shi'ite faith is the belief
that the spiritual and temporal leadership of this
Ummah after the demise of Rasoolullaah sallallahu
‘alayhi wasallam is vested in the Imam, who is
appointed, like the Nabi sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam
himself, by Allah, and who enjoys all the distinctions
and privileges of the Nabi sallallahu ‘alayhi
wasallam.
However, they believe that Imamah, unlike Nubuwwah,
can never come to an end. In this regard there is a
well-known Shi'ite ahaadeeth which says that “the
world cannot exist without an Imam”, and another which
goes that “if the earth were to be without an Imam for
a single day it would sink.”
Thus, when it came to pass that the first of those
whom they regard as their Imams— Sayyiduna Ali
radiyallahu ‘anhu— left this world, a problem arose.
Some of those who regarded themselves as his followers
claimed that he did not in fact die, but that he will
return to establish justice. Others said that he was
succeeded as Imam by his son Hasan, who was in turn
succeeded by his brother Husayn.
When Husayn died there were some who claimed to follow
their other brother Muhammad (known as Ibn
al-Hanafiyyah) as their Imam. When he died his
followers claimed that he was in reality alive, and
that he will return in due time. Others amongst the
Shi‘ah took Sayyiduna Husayn’s son, Ali, surnamed Zayn
al-‘Abidin, as their Imam, and upon his death
transferred their loyalties to his son, Muhammad
al-Baqir.
When al-Baqir died there were once again elements from
amongst the Shi‘ah who denied his death and claimed
that he would return one day, while others took his
son Ja‘far as-Sadiq as their Imam.
When he died there was mass confusion amongst the
Shi‘ah: each of his sons Isma‘il, Abdullah, Muhammad,
Zakariyya, Ishaq and Moosa was claimed by various
groups amongst the Shi‘ah to be their Imam. In
addition to them there was a group who believed that
Jaa‘far did not really die, and that he would return
one day.
More or less the same thing happened at the death of
his son Moosa. Some of the Shi‘ah denied his death,
believing that he will return, and others decided to
take as their new Imam one of his sons. Some of these
chose his son Ahmad, while others chose his other son
Ali ar-Rida.
After him they took as their Imam his son Muhammad
al-Jawwad (or at-Taqi), and after him his son Ali
al-Hadi (or an-Naqi). At the death of Ali al-Hadi they
looked upon his son Hasan al-Askari as their new— and
11th— Imam.
THE DEATH OF HASAN AL-ASKARI
The above is a very brief synopsis of a tumultuous and
confusing history— a history from which a dedicated
researcher might extract some very revealing facts
about the development of Shiaism.
However, that is not our concern at this moment. We
have now arrived at the year 254 AH, the time when a
major section of the Shi‘ah accepted as their Imam the
22-year old Hasan, son of Ali al-Hadi, and 10th lineal
descendant of Sayyiduna Ali and Sayyidah Fatimah
radiyallahu‘anhuma. Six years later, in 260 AH, Hasan
al-Askari, at the very young age of 28, is lying on
his deathbed, but unlike any of his forefathers he
leaves no offspring, no one to whom the Shi‘ah might
appropriate as their new Imam.
The Shi‘ah who had been regarding Hasan al-Askari as
their Imam were thrown into mass disarray. Does this
mean the end of the Imamah? The end of the Imamah
would mean the end of Shiaism. Were they prepared for
that?
The confusion that reigned amongst the Shi‘ah after
the death of Hasan al-Askari is reflected by the
Shi'ite writer Hasan ibn Moosa an-Nawbakhti, who
counts the emergence of altogether 14 sects amongst
the followers of Hasan al-Askari, each one with a
different view on the future of the Imamah and the
identity of the next Imam. It must be noted that
an-Nawbakhti was alive at the time all of this was
taking place. Another Shi'ite writer, Sa‘d ibn
Abdullah al-Qummi, who also lived during the same
time, counts 15 sects, and a century later the
historian al-Mas‘udi enumerates altogether 20 separate
sects.
TRENDS
There were four major trends amongst these various
sects:
(1) There were those who accepted the death of
Hasan al-Askari as a fact, and accepted also the fact
that he left no offspring. To them Imamah had thus
come to an end, just like Nubuwwah came to an end with
the death of Rasoolullaah (s.a.w.s) . However, there
were som

[IslamCity] The Danish cartoon which shook the world

2006-02-08 Thread brother_farrukh
Assalam alaikum,

They say that God is a builder. Why? Because he said he would build
the universe in 2 days but it took him 6. Did you laugh? I did. In
fact, humor was encouraged by the Prophet who himself engaged in some
rather amusing antics.

Ibn Saad records the incident when Abu Umair's pet bird had died, the
Prophet tried to cheer him up with jokes. Bukhari records that on
occasion the Prophet and companions would throw melon skins at one
another by way of humor. Abu Naim records that when a man asked the
Prophet for a camel to ride on, the Prophet said he would give him the
young ones from the camel. The man asked, what use is a young/baby
camel to a man of my weight, to which the prophet said, `Aren't these
(strong) camels the young ones of she camels?' etc.

Humor had always played an important part in the life of the early
Muslims and throughout the period of Islam numerous texts were penned
by scholars: Al Jihaz wrote a treaty on `Seriousness and Playfulness';
al-Hukaymi wrote a treatise on `Jokes and pleasantries'; Ibn Qutaybah
showed that the early Muslims didn't frown upon humor; Ibn al Jawzi
writes about the permissibility of joking in his `History of fools';
An-Nuwayri in his great encyclopedia `Nihayat al Arab' includes a
chapter on jokes; the list goes on and on. Humor was such common place
that to suggest its impermissibility would have been classed an
innovation perhaps even a statement of heresy.

Unless you have had your head in the sand you will have noticed
troubles in the Muslim world, fuelled by a cartoon initially published
in Denmark then foolishly published in certain European countries
under the grossly misunderstood premise of freedom of expression. As
Muslims we take our direction from the Quran, followed by the Sunnah.
Thus it follows that in the Quran Allah Almighty addresses freedom of
thought, freedom to enquire, freedom to question, freedom to speak.
Phrases such as `Yaqilun' (those who exercise their intellect);
`yalamun' (those who know); `yatadaburrn' (those who ponder);
demonstrate the encouragement our Creator almost insists that we
explore. This acknowledgement that expression enables dialogue which
improves understanding is like any other tool, capable of resolving as
well as stirring conflict.

Imagine then how a poor decision to print a cartoon negatively
portraying Islam, turns from a poor attempt to demonize Muslims into
becoming an accurate reflection on how some of the ignorant, militant
Muslims have become. With slogans reading from `Behead those who
insult Islam' to `Kill those who insult the Prophet', how little it is
these people know of Islam, how little it is they know of how the
Prophet Muhammad himself acted in difficult circumstances.

That the editors of the Danish newspaper apologized - as did leading
Danish politicians -seems to have escaped the foolish, who crave a
`them' vs. `us' environment, oblivious to stress Prophet Muhammad
placed on retaining diplomatic channels of communication even in the
most strained circumstance. That the Muslim groups in Denmark who
initiated the protest accepted the apologies also seems to have gone
astray. Instead, we have the foolish threatening people simply for
being Danish, we have embassies being attacked and burnt to the ground
in numerous countries, we have death threats left right and center.
With such a misaligned response, it almost suggests that there is
truth in something the author of the cartoon tried to portray, and
Allah knows best.

During the life of the Prophet Muhammad he was faced with numerous
instances where he was mistreated. From the severity of the way the
people in Taif attacked and abused the Prophet with stones leaving him
to bleed, to the instances where people spoke negatively about Islam.
Did the Prophet threaten them with death? Did he encourage us to burn
their houses down? Leaving Taif with bleeding legs, he told the Angel
of the Mountains who offered to kill the people of Taif to leave them
alone, in the hope that some of their off spring may accept Islam.
This historic account alone, unequivocal in its authenticity,
illustrates the way we should respond to those who wish to tarnish or
harm Islam.

The story of how Hind bint Utba, the woman who was singing and
dancing at the bodies of the dead Muslims on the day of the battle of
Uhud, is well known. On that day she also chewed on the liver of
Prophet Muhammad's deceased uncle, Hamza. Yet despite this woman's
actions, she was neither killed nor attacked; her house was neither
burnt down nor were members of her tribe threatened. In fact as the
great scholar Ibn Hajr in his Fath al Bari points out, by the day of
the Conquest of Mecca, not only had her understanding of Islam change
such that Hind accept Islam, but she gained such a strong position
that she was described as a woman who was `gifted in her judgment'.

Inciting hatred is clearly a breach of freedom of expression, whose
objective has always been to harbor the val

Copenhagen - A storm of protests and consumer boycotts in the Middle

said the editor of a newspaper that published controversial caricatures of the
Prophet Muhammed in a report published on Wednesday. Jyllands-Posten
chief editor Carsten Juste said: "They have won. That is the sad fact.
"I guess that during the next generation no one in Denmark will draw the
Prophet Mohammed." Asked if he regretted last September's publication
that had angered many Muslims, Juste said: "If we had known it would have led to
boycotts and that Danish lives would be threatened, as we have seen, then the
answer is no. "That would not have been responsible. The costs were
simply too high."

Be ready to face more - if still not coming to Muslim Unity

Danish Muslims Warn of Burning Qur’an in Planned Rally

"Danish authorities have made clear that burning the Qur’an is a criminal offence whose perpetrator could face four months in prison," Abu Laban told IOL.
By Ahmed Fathy, IOL Staff
CAIRO, February 4, 2006 (IslamOnline.net) – Danish Muslim leaders warned on Saturday, February 4, of grave consequences if copies of the Noble Qur’an were burnt in a rally planned by Danish extremists to protest Muslim anger over cartoons mocking Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
"All hell will break loose, if those extremists burn the Qur’an," Raed Halil, the head of the European Committee for Defending Prophet Muhammad, told IslamOnline.net over the phone from the Danish capital Copenhagen.
"A female member of a racist party circulated a message calling for burning copies of the Noble Qur’an in Saturday’s march," he said.
Halil said the message incited young Danes to burn the Muslim holy book in retaliation for the burning of Danish flags by angry Muslims across the world and the boycotting of Danish products.
The extreme-right grouping Danish Front was to start its own march at 2:00 pm (1300 GMT) in Hilleroed, northeast of Copenhagen.
The 12 cartoons, first published last September by the mass-circulation Jyllands-Posten and then reprinted by several European dailies, have caused an uproar in the Muslim world and drawn a new cultural battle over freedom of speech and respect of religions.
Incensed Muslims have demonstrated against Denmark, burnt its flags and boycotted its products, while several Muslim ambassadors have been recalled in protest.
Criminal Offense

The cartoons have offended up to one billion Muslims worldwide.
Danish authorities have tried to reassure Muslims that they would not allow extremist protesters to burn copies of the Noble Qur’an.
"Danish authorities have made clear that burning the Qur’an is a criminal offence whose perpetrator could face four months in prison," prominent Muslim leader Abdel Rahman Abu Laban told IOL, adding that Muslim youths were heading in droves to the rally site to prevent extremists from burning their holy book.
The two Muslim leaders believe the rally is specially untimely.
"It is not the right time to hold such a rally given the current anti-Islam campaigns launched by racists and misleading media," said Halil.
He noted that many Danes still "could not grasp the reasons behind the Muslim uproar," arguing that police should not have given the march the go-ahead.
Abu Laban agreed.
"With soaring tensions no one can predict how the day would end."
A bunch of racists have already smashed the front window of a restaurant owned by a Muslim, splashed anti-Prophet slurs and incited violence against Muslims.
Police spokesman Flemming Steen Munch expected that the demonstration could well include " anarchists" and "troublemakers."
Government Blamed
A demonstration of leftist activists began at 1:00 pm (1200), when around 100 people gathered near the railway station of Hilleroed.
The marchers, many of them clad in black and bearing banners urging people to "Crush the Nazis", turned out to protest the planned anti-Muslim march.
"This affair has gone much too far and it's clearly the fault of the Danish government," said Helle Mortensen, a 17-year-old redhead dressed in black.
"Freedom of _expression_ does not mean to hurt others," she told Agence France-Presse (AFP).
"We say no to the racist and ignorant Danish Front demonstration against Muslims in Denmark and in the world," said Daniel Savi, a local secretary of march organizers SFU, the youth wing of the Socialist People's party.
Another demonstration also planned for Saturday is expected to bring together 2,000 people in Frederiksberg, near Copenhagen, to call for mutual respect and dialogue.
Imams will also organize later in the day a peaceful march in a bid to bridge the gap between the Muslim minority and Danish society.
Muslims in Denmark are estimated at more than 180,000 or around 3 per cent of population, mostly with a Turkish background.
There are three Muslim members of the Danish parliament; Naser Khader, who hails from Syrian roots, Husain Arac, who has a Turkish background, and Pakistan-born Kamal Qurashi.
Islam is Denmark's second largest religion after the Lutheran Protestant Church, which is actively followed by four-fifths of the country's population of 5.3 million.

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) -- Hundreds of Syrian
demonstrators stormed the Danish Embassy in Damascus
Saturday and set fire to the building, witnesses said.

The demonstrators were protesting offensive
caricatures of Islam's Prophet Mohammed that were
first published in a Danish newspaper several months
ago.

Witnesses said the demonstrators set fire to the
entire building, which also houses the embassies of
Chile and Sweden.

Protesters have been staging sit-ins outside the
Danish Embassy in downtown Damascus almost daily since
the furor over the drawings broke out last week.

Saturday's protest started out peacefully but as anger
escalated, protesters broke through police barriers
and torched the building, the witnesses said.

The cartoons, first printed in Denmark and then
published elsewhere in Europe, have touched a raw
nerve in the Arab and Islamic world, in part because
Islamic law is interpreted to forbid any depiction of
the Prophet Mohammed, favorable or otherwise.

Aggravating the affront was one caricature of Mohammed
wearing a turban shaped as a bomb with a burning fuse.

The Danish government has expressed regret for the
furor, but refused to become involved, citing freedom
of expression.

Rage against caricatures of Islam's revered prophet
poured out across the Muslim world on Saturday, with
aggrieved believers calling for the execution of those
involved, storming European buildings, and setting
European flags afire.

In its first official comments on the caricatures, the
Vatican, while deploring violent protests, said
certain forms of criticism represent an "unacceptable
provocation."

"The right to freedom of thought and expression ...
cannot entail the right to offend the religious
sentiment of believers," the Vatican said in a
statement.

The cartoons, first printed in Denmark, and then
published elsewhere in Europe, have touched a raw
nerve, in part because Islamic law is interpreted to
forbid any depictions of the Prophet Mohammed.
Aggravating the affront was one caricature of Mohammed
wearing a turban shaped as a bomb with a burning fuse.

Muslims in Europe have reacted less passionately than
their counterparts in the Mideast and Southeast Asia,
but on Saturday, anger in Europe swelled, too, with
demonstrators clashing with police in Copenhagen and
gathering outside the Danish Embassy in London.

In Munich, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she
understood Muslims' hurt, but denounced violent
reactions.

[IslamCity] OPIN: Danish cartoons - Intellectual Terrorism

2006-02-08 Thread Abdul Alim

Intellectual Terrorism 2/5/2006 - Political Social - Article Ref: IC0602-2899By: Dr. Aslam Abdullah IslamiCity* -    The detestable cartoon portrayals of Muhammad , Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) by Danish and later by Norwegian, French, German and many other European newspapers is nothing less than emotional torture and intellectual terrorism. In the name of freedom of speech, the most sophisticated professional class of European print media organizations are revealing their centuries old hatred and
intolerance towards Islam and Muslims. In universities, European and American journalists are often taught that freedom of speech ends where the sensitivities of people begin. Seemingly, they have failed to implement this most ethical and moral lesson. A newspaper, whether Danish or Portuguese, that indulges in opinionated reporting by making fun of a major religious figure revered by a global community is an exercise in emotional torture. Showing solidarity with those who promote such kind of propaganda does not promote "free speech" but in fact promotes intolerance and violence that hurts innocent people all over the word. However, this is not a new phenomenon. Many European and American scholars, academics and intellectuals as well as public officials have remained engaged from seventh century onwards in anti-Islam, anti-Muslim and anti-Prophet Muhammad campaigns.  They have refused to show civility in dealing with issues pertaining to the second
largest religion in the world. After all, it was Martin Luther, the great Christian reformer to whom almost every Christian Protestant group owes its origin produced the worst writings against Islam and Prophet Muhammad. Those who are unable to overcome their hatred and ignorance of Islam will not stop from promoting their agenda. To expect otherwise from such intolerant people would be futile. However, what was surprising was the silence of Christian and Jewish community and religious leaders on this issue? Through their interfaith dialogue with Muslims they must have realized the sanctity and sacredness Muslims attach to their religious values. We are brothers and sisters in humanity and all of us should share a common goal of eradicating intolerance of any kind by speaking out
against it. Whether it is a Jew or a Gypsy, we should not tolerate such hateful rhetoric. Yet, only a handful of community and religious leaders spoke out.      What was even more disturbing was the response of Muslims. Boycotting Danish products, closing down the offices of European diplomatic offices and the beating of Dane's working in the Gulf were measures that did not suit a community whose Prophet is described in the divine scriptures as a Mercy to Humankind.Immediately, after the battle of Badr, Omar bin al Khattab, one of the most celebrated companions of Prophet sought the permission of the state to punish Suhail bin Amr, a prisoner of war who had engaged in anti-Prophet Muhammad propaganda in Makkah. Suhail was known for his abusive language and insulting attitude towards the Prophet. Prophet Muhammad , as the ruler of the newly formed Islamic State strictly prohibited his companions from punishing or torturing any prisoner of war on account of their past hostilities. He admonished Omar bin al-Khattab for seeking retribution. After all, the Prophet had endured all the possible humiliation at the hands of the elites of Makkah and their supporters without asking any of his supporters to silence his opponents.  Islam recognizes the dissent to its teachings and appeals to its adherents to deal with it in a civil manner. Islam promotes the idea that a polite response and a decent rebuttal are powerful enough in changing the worst enemy into a friend. Islam does not seek revenge of those who indulge in anti-Islam, anti-God or anti-Prophet abuses. Furthermore, Islam prohibits the use of pressure and intimidation for changing the hearts of people. Islam teaches us that coercion is
incapable of bringing a change in the attitude of people. Intimidation might make others change their immediate reaction to Islam but ultimately it is futile because every individual has to make a conscious decision about his or her relations with God and His creation. The provocation of Danish and other European newspapers was foolish and full of hatred. There is no need for such provocation in a world that is fast becoming cosmopolitan in all its dimensions. The freedom of speech cannot be used as an excuse to hurt or insult others. Moreover, there exists double standards in this matter among most European and American journalists working for big media corporations. Most of these advocates of freedom of speech do not dare write against the foul practices of multinational corporations that often provide bread and butter to most working journalists. Most of them do not dare to expose the dirty trade practices, excessive exploitation and other violation of human rights of

[IslamCity] Why are we tested with trials & tribulations?

2006-02-08 Thread Mohammed A

Allah said: " Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested. And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allâh will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allâh knows all that before putting them to test)."  [Soorah al-Ankaboot (29): 1-3]

This is an admonition in the form of a question, meaning that Allah will inevitably test His believing servants according to their level of faith, as it is recorded in the authentic Hadeeth. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam - may the peace & blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The people most severely tested are the Prophets, then the righteous, then the next best and the next best. A person will be tested in accordance with the degree of their religious commitment; the stronger his religious commitment, the stronger his test." [Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi (7:78)]
But those who are not believers will not escape such trials and tests for ahead of them lies a severe punishment as Allah says: "Or those who do evil deeds think that they can outstrip Us (i.e. escape Our Punishment)? Evil is that which they judge! [Soorah al-Ankaboot (29): 4]"Allâh will not leave the believers in the state in which you are now, until He distinguishes the wicked from the good. Nor will Allâh disclose to you the secrets of the Ghaib (unseen), but Allâh chooses of His Messengers whom He pleases. So believe in Allâh and His Messengers. And if you believe and fear Allâh, then for you there is a great reward." [Soorah al-Imran (3): 179]
Allah allows a calamity to happen, and during this calamity His friends become known and His enemies exposed, the patient believer recognized and the sinful hypocrite revealed.
"Nor will Allah disclose to you the secrets of the Unseen." [Soorah al-Imran (3): 179] meaning you do not have access to Allah's Knowledge of His creation so that you can distinguish between the believer and the hypocrite, except by signs that Allah uncovers.Even Previous Nations were tried and tested with calamities and oppression from the Kuffar (dis-believers) but the Final Victory is always for the believersIn an authentic Hadeeth, it is reported that Khabbab Ibn al-Aratt (ra - may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Why do you not invoke Allah to support us? Why do you not supplicate to Allah for us?' He said: "Among the people who came before you,
there was a man who was taken and put into a hole dug for him in the earth, then a saw was put on his head and he was cut into two pieces, and an iron comb was used to tear the flesh from his bones, but this still did not turn him away from his religion." [Reported by al-Bukharee, see Fath al-Baaree, (12/315)]
He (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam - may the peace & blessings of Allah be upon him) then said: "By Allah! This matter (religion) will spread (or expand) by Allah until the traveler leaves San'aa to Hadramat fearing nothing except Allah and the wolf that may attack his sheep." [See Fath al-Baree (7/165)]Allah says: "Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? They were afflicted with severe poverty and ailments and were so shaken that even the Messenger and those who believed along with him said, "When (will come) the Help of Allâh?" Yes! Certainly, the Help of Allâh is near!" [Soorah al-Baqarah (2): 214]
Meaning that you will be tested like the nations before you were tested and tried with illness, pain, disasters and hardships so much that they pleaded (to Allah) for victory against the enemies and invoked Him for aid and deliverance from their hardships and trials.
Conclusion: Every person who claims to be a true Muslim will be tested and tried by Allah. These trials can be in the form of starvation, famine or oppression etc. When these trials take place, the believer is expected to succeed in these tests by practicing Sabr (patience), Tawakkul (trust in Allah that He will help him and support the religion) and with Istiqama (steadfastness) on his Deen (religion) because Allah does not grant Paradise or victory without Sabr, Tawakkul and Istiqama on the part of the believers.

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.}
(Holy Quran-16:125)

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness)," and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I am one of the Muslims."} (Holy Quran-41:33)
