What ashame to Malaysian Government especially as they are now the head of OIC. They should uphold Islam more than the tax gained from Carlsberg.

This is probably the new "version" of Islam as the Malaysian are promoting recently.

CAIR CONDEMNS IRANIAN HOLOCAUST CARTOON
CONTEST(WASHINGTON, D.C.,
2/8/06) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations today condemned a plan by an
Iranian newspaper to solicit cartoons denying the Nazi Holocaust.Iran's
Hamshahri newspaper says the contest is in reaction to the publication in Europe
of cartoons mocking Islam's Prophet Muhammad. The controversy over those cartoon
sparked worldwide protests. In a statement, CAIR said:"Now is the
time for responsible people of all faiths to avoid inflammatory actions that are
clearly designed to incite hatred. We call on Hamshahri newspaper to drop its
plans to denigrate the immense suffering caused by the Nazi Holocaust and urge
the Iranian government to repudiate such an insensitive proposal."The
Quran, Islam's revealed text, states: 'Goodness and evil cannot be
equal.Repel (evil) with something that is better. Then you will see that he
with whom you had enmity will become your close friend. And no one will be
granted such goodness except those who exercise patience and self-restraint.'

one of the lowest moments in human history and should not be the subject of
derogatory cartoons. One cannot demand responsible behavior from others while at
the same time acting irresponsibly."Previously, CAIR and other American
Muslim groups rejected the use of violence in response to the defamatory
caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad published in European newspapers. In
reaction to the cartoon controversy, CAIR officials met with the Norwegian and
Danish ambassadors to express the Muslim community's concerns about the
caricatures and urged American Muslims to educate others about the legacy of the
Prophet Muhammad.CAIR, America's largest Muslim civil liberties group,
has 31 offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance
understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower
American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual
understanding.

[IslamCity] The Wisdom of Prophet's [pbuh] Teaching

2006-02-11 Thread Media Watch

The Wisdom of Prophet's
[pbuh] Teaching:

Prophet Mohamed (saw) said about;

Learning
He dieth not who giveth life to learning.
Whoso honoreth the learned, honoreth me.
The Messenger of God was asked, "What is the greatest vice of man?" He said,
"You must not ask me about vice, but ask about virtue;" and he repeated this
three times, after which he said, "Know ye! The worst of men is a bad learned
man, and a good learned man is the best."
Verily god doth not taketh away knowledge from the hands of His servants; but
taketh it by taking away the learned; so that when no learned men remain, the
ignorant will be placed at the head of affairs. Causes will be submitted to
their decision, they will pass sentence without knowledge, will err themselves,
and lead others into error.
An hour's contemplation is better than a year's adoration.
Philosophy is the stray camel of the Faithful, take hold of it wherever ye
come across it.
Go in quest of knowledge even unto China.
Seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave.
The knowledge from which no benefit is derived is like a treasure from which
no charity is bestowed in the way of the Lord.
Do you know what sappeth the foundation of Islam, and ruineth it? The errors
of the learned destroy it, the disputations of the hypocrite, and the orders of
kings who have lost the road.
To spend more time in learning is better than spending more time praying; the
support of religion is abstinence. It is better to teach knowledge one hour in
the night than to pray all night.
Whoever seeketh knowledge and findeth it, will get two rewards; one of them
the reward for desiring it, and the other for attaining it; therefore, even if
he do not attain it, for him is one reward.
That person who shall die while he is studying, in order to revive the
knowledge of religion, will be only one degree inferior to the prophets.
One learned man is harder on the devil than a thousand ignorant worshippers.
The pursuit of knowledge is a divine commandment for every Muslim; and to
waste knowledge on those who are unworthy of it is like putting pearls, jewels,
and gold on the necks of swine.
That person who shall pursue the path of knowledge, God will direct him to
the path of Paradise; and verily the superiority of a learned man over an
ignorant worshipper is like that of the full moon over all the stars.
He who knoweth his own self, knoweth God.
Verily the best of God's servants are just and learned kings; and verily the
worst are bad and ignorant kings.
To listen to the words of the learned, and to instil into others the lessons
of science, is better than religious exercises.
The ink of the scholar is more holy than the blood of the martyr.
He who leaveth home in search of knowledge, walketh in the path of God.
One hour's meditation on the work of the Creator is better than seventy years
of prayer.
God hath treasuries beneath the Throne, the keys whereof are the tongues of
poets.
The acquisition of knowledge is a duty incumbent one every Muslim, male and
female.
Acquire knowledge. It enableth its posessor to distinguish right from wrong;
it lighteth the way to Heave; it is our friend in the desert, our society in
solitude, our companion when friendless; it guideth us to happiness; it
sustaineth us in misery; it is an ornament among friends, and an armour against
enemies.
With knowledge man riseth to the heights of goodness and to a noble position,
associateth with sovereigns in this world, and attaineth to the perfection of
happiness in the next.
Learn to know thyself.
The calamity of knowledge is forgetfulness; and to waste knowledge is to
speak of it to the unworthy.
Who are the learned? They who practise what they know.

Man's
Growth
The son of Man groweth and with him grow two things - the love of wealth and
love of long life.
"Who is the best man?" Muhammad replied, "He is the best man whose life is
long and whose actions are good." "Then who is the worst man?" "He whose life is
long and whose actions are bad.

Marriage
Marriage is incumbent on all who possess the ability.
A woman may be married by four qualifications: one on account of her money;
another, on account of the nobility of her pedigree; another on account of her
beauty; the fourth, on account of her virtue. Therefore, look out for a woman
that hath virtue: but if you do it from any other consideration, your hands be
rubbed in dirt.

Meanness
Shall I tell you the very worst among you? Those who eat alone, and whip the
slaves, and give to nobody.

Mishaps
Whatever mishap may befall you, it is on account of something which you have
done.
No misfortune or vexation befalleth a servant of God, small or great, but on
account of his faults committed: and most of these God forgiveth.

Modesty
True modesty is the source of all virtues.
Modesty and chastity are parts of the Faith.
Meekness and modesty are two branches of Iman; and vain talking and

[IslamCity] POLISH JOURNAL PUBLISHES COVER INSULT TO MARYAM, MOTHER OF ISA (A.S.)

2006-02-11 Thread assalamu_alaikum_1427
Assalamu aleikum.

All Muslims unreservedly condemn pop magazine Machina for its insolent
cover portrayal of the holy virgin Mary, the mother of Isa (A.S.), a
messenger of Allah (S.W.T.). Maryam was portrayed on the magazine
cover as the international singer slut Madonna.

It appears that yet another publication is cruising for a bruising.

Madonna's face irks Catholics
Agence France-Presse
From correspondents in Warsaw, Poland
February 09, 2006
http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,18100090-23109,00.html

POLAND'S Roman Catholics expressed outrage today after a magazine
published a picture of the much revered icon of the Black Madonna with
pop singer Madonna's face transposed onto it.

We are shocked to see, yet again, the miraculous icon of the mother
of God used in a profanatory way for advertising and business
purposes, Paulinian monks at Jasna Gora monastery in the southern
city of Czestochowa.

The monks are the custodians of the icon which Poles believe was
painted by St Luke the Evangelist.

Pop magazine Machina published a photograph of the sacred icon, with
singer Madonna's face transposed over the face of the Virgin and one
of the singer's children in the place of the baby Jesus, on the cover
of the issue which hit the news stands today after a three-year
publishing hiatus.

The icon, along with the crucifix and the Bible, are key symbols of
faith for all Christians, the monks said in a statement on their website.

Current events have shown us where abuse of religious images and
symbols can lead, the statement said, referring indirectly to the
wave of protests that have hit the Muslim world since the publication
of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed in several European newspapers.

The Black Madonna icon was brought to Poland in 1382 from Byzantium or
the Orient.

Besides being credited with many miraculous healings, Poland's
faithful attribute several battleground victories to the icon,
including the halting of Soviet Russian troops at the doorstep of
Warsaw on May 3, 1920.

The late Polish-born pope John Paul II visited the sanctuary six times
during his long papacy, and left the blood-stained and bullet-riddled
belt he was wearing when an attempt was made on his life in 1981 at
the shrine, as an offering to the Virgin Mary.

(Peace Be Upon Him), the Taliban chief military commander said, We
will avenge disrespect to Islam and our holy prophet adding that a
reward of five kilograms gold on killing any soldier of Denmark,
Norway and Germany in Afghanistan has been announced while a reward of
100 kg gold will be give to those killing the cartoonists of the
sacrilegious caricature and other people behind its publication.

He also announced general amnesty to those who fought against Taliban.

He said Islam and infidelity (Kufar) are two separate ways and neither
we held talks with infidels in the past nor it can happen in the future.

Thirty eight-year-old Mulla Dadullah, chief military commander of
Taliban was also commander during the Taliban government. Dadullah
refused to surrender and escaped to Kandahar when Taliban command was
broken and Taliban surrendered in the north in November 2001. He also
lost his one leg during jehad against USSR in Afghanistan.

[IslamCity] ISL: Gentle Ways to Present Islam

2006-02-11 Thread Abdul Alim

Gentle Ways to Present Islam By Adil SalahiWhile inviting people from other faiths, to Islam, it is wise if Muslims today follow the gentle ways of Hazrath Abu Bakr (RA) and Hazrath Umar (RA).Advocacy of the Islamic message is the central duty of all Muslims. God has given them His message as a trust. To be true to their trust means that they should make Islam known to mankind, calling on them to submit themselves to God, which is the essence of the divine message. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the first advocate of Islam in its final form embodied in the Qur’an. His companions were fully aware of their duty and went about its fulfillment as best as they could, setting for us a wide range of examples
of approaching people and putting to them why they should submit themselves to God, the Lord of all the worlds. The best among them in this respect was Abu Bakr,(RA) the closest to the Prophet among all his companions. Abu Bakr was a man with whom people got along very easily. They liked his refined manners, gentle ways and respectable character. He was well educated, and part of his education gave him thorough knowledge of all Arabian tribes, to the extent that he knew the ancestry of all Arabs, and the history of all people who lived in Arabia. Indeed, people of all ages went to him to benefit by what he said. When Islam started, Abu Bakr was the first person outside the Prophet’s own household to accept its message and declare himself a Muslim. He then proceeded to advocate Islam among his numerous friends and visitors, but he was selective as to whom to approach. He looked for people of intelligence and rational thinking, concentrating on the young. Soon he was
able to convince a few of them and he took them to the Prophet so that they could pledge their commitment to him as believers in Islam. Five of these were to be included among the ten of the Prophet’s companions to whom he gave the happiest news of being sure to be admitted into heaven. These were Uthman ibn Affan, Al-Zubayr ibn Al-Awwam, Talhah ibn Ubaydillah, Saad ibn Abi Waqqas and Abd Al-Rahman ibn Awf. Uthman was the eldest as he was around 30 years of age at the time, while the other four were still in their teens. With these the number of Muslim men other than the Prophet rose to eight. Thus, they were the nucleus of the Muslim community that was to carry the Islamic message into the wide world. When these people are mentioned as the earliest Muslims, many of us think that they were approached together and they gave their response straight away. The fact is that the message of Islam was still in its early days, when secrecy was imposed on it. Hence we can only see Abu
Bakr speaking to each one of them privately. He might have spoken to all of them on the same day, but most probably this was not the case. He must have spoken to them individually when an opportunity presented itself. Al-Zubayr and Talhah were very close friends, and he might have spoken to both of them at the same time, but we have no record of this. Anyway, we do not know who of these five was ahead of the rest in joining Islam, but they all became Muslims very early, and they formed a group of able men ready to support the Prophet in every way.Muslims must always be aware that they will have to answer God’s question about their effort to make the message of Islam known to mankind. The task of Islamic advocacy stops at this: Presenting Islam and stating to people that God wants them to be Muslims, submitting themselves to Him. No coercion should ever be employed to compel people to accept Islam. Faith relies on conviction, and conviction cannot be the result of coercion.
Muslims must always be aware that they will have to answer God’s question about their effort to make the message of Islam known to mankind. The task of Islamic advocacy stops at this: Presenting Islam and stating to people that God wants them to be Muslims, submitting themselves to Him. No coercion should ever be employed to compel people to accept Islam. When Hazrath Umar ruled the still expanding Muslim state, he had a talented slave called Asbaq who reports: “Umar was my master and I was a Christian. He used to speak to me about Islam and call on me to become a Muslim. He also said to me: ‘If you become a Muslim, I will get you to help me to discharge the trust God has given me in looking after the Muslim community. It is not permissible for me to put you in a position of trust with regard to the Muslim community when you belong to a religion other than theirs.’ But I refused. He used to say: ‘Well! I will not compel you, as no compulsion is admissible in
religion.’ Shortly before his death, he set me free and told me: “You can go wherever you wish.”It is important to recognize the significance of this report. The ruler of the Muslim state, which was soon to become most powerful on earth, yet dealing most fairly with all people, could not influence his slave to adopt Islam,

[IslamCity] American law (!) prohibits publication of cartoons mocking Muhammad

2006-02-11 Thread Yusuf Toropov
Assalamu alaykum:

Below, the best response I have seen yet to those who defend abuse of
the Prophet (pbuh) on free speech grounds. Read it all the way
through, and you will see that those who make this defense are quite
ignorant of *AMERICAN* law!

Pass it on!

--

... These cartoons, especially their current, repeated republication are the
graphic equivalent of fighting words. All those U.S. commentators who
claim that free speech is absolute are obviously ignorant of their own
country's law in this regard.

Even in the U.S., which is often cited as the place with the strongest
tradition of free and unfettered speech, there is a legal doctrine that
limits speech when that speech is considered likely to be so provocative
as to incite a violent reaction.

In its 1942 decision, Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire, the Supreme Court of
the United States articulated the fighting words doctrine, a limitation
of the First Amendment's guarantee of freedom of speech. The Court said:

There are certain well-defined and narrowly limited classes of speech,
the prevention and punishment of which have never been thought to raise
any constitutional problem. These include the lewd and obscene, the
profane, the libelous, and the insulting or fighting words those which
by their very utterance inflict injury or tend to incite an immediate
breach of the peace. It has been well observed that such utterances are
no essential part of any exposition of ideas, and are of such slight
social value as a step to truth that any benefit that may be derived
from them is clearly outweighed by the social interest in order and
morality.

Certainly the reaction we are now seeing from some Muslims clearly shows
that the Danish cartoons are in this category of fighting words and
should not be included under the protection of free speech. That does
not mean that the ideas behind the cartoons cannot be expressed; it
means that they must be expressed in a form that does not rise to the
level of fighting words that incite a breach of the peace.

The Prophet Muhammad never retaliated against those who insulted him. He
did not seek vengeance on them. And in one instance, at least, it
appears that he did not tell his companions until much later about a
woman who was insulting him on a daily basis and throwing garbage down
on him out of her upstairs window. He kept silent, some believe, because
he was afraid that someone would take matter into their own hands and
teach the woman a lesson.

Now is the time for EVERYONE, regardless of their opinions in this
affair, to back off a bit and leave the way open for cooler heads to
prevail. Those who continue to engage in Muslim bashing by re-publishing
the cartoons are NOT practicing press freedom (a precious right) but
press license (the irresponsible use of that right).

Peace to all who seek God's face.

2006-02-11 Thread G.Waleed Kavalec

Salaam all

I have to share this.-- Forwarded message --

As-salaam alaykum everyone:

I have found this discussion very interesting and informative, and thank
everyone for participating.

As someone who was involved in Muslim community responses to the Salman
Rushdie controversy back in 1989 (in Washington state), I would like to
encourage everyone to study that situation and the lessons learned from it
for Muslim community activism and outreach. Our Muslim community leadership -
local, national, and international - handled that situation the same way as
the Danish cartoon controversy is being handled now. The approaches and
arguments are about the same now as then.

However, virtually all international, national and local Muslim community
representatives from that time learned not to take the bait from those
people, groups and forces wanting for their own purposes to prompt outbreaks
of Muslim extremism (or whatever you want to call it). There have been many
such attempts since that time until this Danish cartoon situation. Instead,
wisdom has prevailed for the most part and public education by Muslims has
taken sensible approaches that sidesteps these sorts of stereotyped
situations and avoids bad publicity, at least, until this Danish cartoon
controversy erupted.

I urge everyone to learn from American Muslim history, and from this recent
situation, and be prepared for the next such inevitable situation. I don't
see the involvement of the previous generation of Muslim community leaders in
handling this debate. I wonder if they were even consulted by the newer
generation of Muslim community leadership for their experience (even though
Muslim culture encourages us to value the experience of our elders, etc.)

I imagine this generation of Muslim community leaders will learn their
lesson, as did the previous one, and not take the bait for a while, perhaps
15-20 years. By that time, there will have been another turnover of
leadership, to the next generation of leaders who didn't experience this
Danish cartoon controversy, and won't remember there ever was a Salman
Rushdie controversy. They will handle the next big freedom of _expression_ vs.
insulting Islam controversy by taking the same approaches and using the same
arguments again, without having considered how effective they are (if at
all).

This is because we don't seem to learn from our community's history, or from
the experienced people of our community.

We need to be aware that the same types of issues and controversies keep
recurring, and that lessons have been learned about how to handle them. The
knowledge and experiences gained needs to be passed on by previous
generations of leadership. Newer generations of leadership need to be aware
that the situations they are dealing with are not new, and that they need to
maintain a relationship with the experienced generations of leadership and
learn something from them. There are lots of precedents and existing
information available with regard to how to handle controversial situations,
and we need to have a way to share these kinds of knowledge.

I urge everyone to give this matter some serious thought, otherwise it is all
going to be a matter of it has all happened before and it will all happen
again. We will all be wasting a lot of good energy on the same old, same
old thing over and over again instead of advancing our general goals, a few
of which seem to be improving public awareness of Muslim people, faith and
culture, and protecting our community (people and assets).

Sincerely,
Nahid Khan.

When (the
righteous) hear vain talk, they withdraw from it saying: 'Our deeds are for us
and yours for you; peace be on to you. We do not desire the way of the
ignorant'. . .O Prophet (Muhammad), you cannot give guidance to whom you wish,
it is God Who gives guidance to whom He pleases, and He is quite aware of those
who are guided. (28:55-56)

Aren't these cartoons vain
talk?

Are we withdrawing from this vain talk,
or just putting more fuel in the
fire?

[IslamCity] Re: on carton issue--a clash of civilsation (of Islam ) with Un-civilisation of the West.

2006-02-11 Thread S A Hannan

Dear Atiq,
Assalamu Alaikum. The piece below which you sent to
me shows the mental and moral degradation
of a person who has left or effectively left Islam. They are sold to money or
worldly allurement or their desire to please their new masters for
gains.Sometimes it is also because of Muslim failure to address dissent and
ignorance of some people in the communityin a nice way atthe
right time.

The present cartoon issue has exposed the
moral crisis of most of the leasership of the West. The so-called clash of
civilisation has in fact become a clash of civilsation (of Islam ) with
Un-civilisation of ( most of )the West.

  Dutch MP backs Muhammad cartoons

Ms Hirsi Ali compared Islamism to
communismThe
Somali-born Dutch MP who describes herself as a "dissident of Islam" has
backed the Danish newspaper that first printed the Prophet Muhammad
  cartoons.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali said it was "correct to publish the
cartoons" in Jyllands Posten and "right to republish them".
Her film-maker colleague Theo van Gogh was murdered by a
Muslim extremist in a case that shocked the Netherlands.
Ms Hirsi Ali, speaking in Berlin, said that "today the open
  society is challenged by Islamism".
She added: "Within Islam exists a hardline Islamist movement
that rejects democratic freedoms and wants to destroy them."
Ms Hirsi Ali criticised European leaders for not standing by
Denmark and urged politicians to stop appeasing fundamentalists.
She also said that although the Prophet Muhammad did a lot
of good things, his decree that homosexuals and apostates should be killed was
  incompatible with democracy.
  Media 'fear'
Ms Hirsi Ali wrote the script for Submission, a film
criticising the treatment of women in Islam that prompted a radical Islamist
to kill Van Gogh in an Amsterdam street in November 2004.
Papers in several European nations have reprinted the
satirical Danish cartoons - most recently carried in the French magazine
  Charlie Hebdo.
A dozen people have died in violent protests in Afghanistan
over the cartoons, which have also been denounced throughout the Islamic
  world.
The drawings include an image of Muhammad with a bomb in his
turban. Islamic tradition explicitly prohibits any depiction of Allah and the
Prophet. Ms Hirsi Ali said the furore over the
cartoons had exposed the fear among artists and journalists in Europe to
"analyse or criticise intolerant aspects of Islam".

Abdullah Badawi said
many Westerners saw Muslims as congenital terrorists, but he added Muslims in turn must stop sweeping denunciations of the West. He spoke after shutting down a paper for publishing satirical Western cartoons of the prophet Muhammad. Their publication in Europe has led to major protests in Muslim countries. On Thursday hundreds of thousands of Shia Muslims turned a religious ceremony into a protest against the cartoons, while thousands marched in South Africa and Bangladesh. "They think Osama bin Laden speaks for the religion and its followers," he said, quoted by AP news agency. "The demonisation of Islam and the vilification of Muslims, there is no denying, is widespread within mainstream Western society." But Muslims for their part had to avoid "sweeping denunciation of Christians, Jews and the West", he added. Malaysia is currently the head of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.

[IslamCity] Guess What? Islam and the US Supreme Court Agree on the Cartoons

2006-02-11 Thread Yusuf Toropov
===Guess What? Islam and the US Supreme Court Agree on the Mujhammad Cartoons===

By now, almost everyone knows about the crude cartoon caricatures of
Prophet Muhammad -- and about the outrage, economic boycotts, and
tragic loss of life that have followed their publication in Denmark
and other countries, including the United States. What is perhaps less
well known is that the publications of these cartoons, far from being
an example of Constitutionally protected free speech, actually
violates fundamental principles of American law.

In 1942, the U.S. Supreme Court held that certain forms of speech
could be, and ought to be, restricted by the legal system – if they
fell into the category of fighting talk calculated solely to provoke
outrage. Allow me to quote briefly from the landmark decision,
Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire:

There are certain well-defined and narrowly limited classes of
speech, the prevention and punishment of which have never been thought
to raise any constitutional problem. These include the lewd and
obscene, the profane, the libelous, and the insulting or fighting
words those which by their very utterance inflict injury or tend to
incite an immediate breach of the peace. It has been well observed
that such utterances are no essential part of any exposition of ideas,
and are of such slight social value as a step to truth that any
benefit that may be derived from them is clearly outweighed by the
social interest in order and morality.

It takes only a glance at the week's headlines to confirm that these
cartoons constitute the kind of expression that inflict(s) injury
and tend(s) to incite an immediate breach of the peace.

The Supreme Court's decision echoes centuries of Islamic tradition.
There is ample historical evidence that Islam, through the world's
final Prophet, Muhammad, taught and strengthened consultative
democratic traditions, respect for differing points of view, and basic
personal freedoms. Freedom of religion and speech are definitely among
the core Islamic values. Yet, like the Supreme Court, Islam holds
that freedom of speech is not absolute. With freedoms come limits.

Muslims mention the Almighty only with reverence. Likewise, all that
relates to the Most Merciful -- angels, prophets and messengers, books
of revelation, houses of worship, and so forth, are to be objects of
dearness and respect. Studying and understanding this well-established
tradition will go a long way toward helping non-Muslims come to terms
with the anguish and rage of the world's Muslims in recent days.

Yes. We take our religion seriously, and we will not sit unmoved as
the objects of our greatest love and admiration are desecrated on the
global stage. We live in an era of knowledge and enlightenment, and
therefore we pray for the wisdom to use our freedoms for virtuous
ends, like furthering communication and cooperation between humanity
and bringing an end to war and privation. We must enlighten ourselves
with authentic knowledge to lift the yokes of ignorance and prejudice
from us. At the same time, we must be sure that we respond
appropriately and nonviolently to provocations, and decline the
invitation to live in the 21st century, yet espouse values of revenge
and hatred that the Prophet rejected.

Historically, the Muslim world has offered a living example of
interfaith cooperation, harmony and justice. Andalusia, for over 700
years the cradle of civilization in Europe, was where Muslims,
Christians and Jews lived peacefully, side by side. It was where
tolerance, consultation, and mutual respect carried the day. It was
where wise people from all of these faiths engaged in scholarly
interfaith discussions, research and learning. It was a legacy to the
noblest aspirations of the human spirit.

We see too little of the spirit of Andalusia, and perhaps too much of
the spirit of Rush Limbaugh, in our present situation.

These hateful, deeply prejudicial images – the latest in a stream of
high-profile abuses of Muslims and their faith system – have been
republished by supposedly reputable mainstream outlets such as the
Philadelphia Inquirer and ABC News. I join not only today's mainstream
Islamic scholars, but also the precedents of the United States Supreme
Court, when I implore non-Muslims not to mistake the right to freedom
of speech (which, like all rights, comes with certain
responsibilities) for the right to engage in hate speech, an activity
with no virtue or benefit whatsoever.

And to Muslims, I urge a similar caution in the terms we use to
respond to the present situation, following our faith's dictate that
the believers use only the best words in all of their communications,
and steadfastly avoid the worst.

Yours truly,
Shpendim Nadzaku

[IslamCity] Fw: Praising the Prophet of Mercy--poetry and songs in praise of the Prophet

  The door seal of
the Prophet's Mosque with Arabic inscription "Mohammed, the Messenger of
  Allah"
The wisdom of Abraham, the patience of Job, the chastity of
Joseph, the strength of Moses, and the charity of Jesus were all embodied in
Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The Seal of the Prophets,
assuming no holiness, personified ultimate human majesty. Despite losing his
dear family members at a young age, he grew up to be 'a mercy to all the
worlds'. His love extended from his family members, to believers, to
non-believers, and even to animals. As a family man, he raised his cousin `Ali,
always kissed his daughter Fatimah on the forehead, and cherished the memory of
his wife Khadijah to the end of his life. He taught that feeding an animal can
take one to Heaven whereas mistreating it could take one to Hell.
Unlike the bomb-turbaned figure in the blasphemous Danish
cartoons that sparked outrage among Muslims recently, upon his victorious return
to Mecca, Prophet Muhammad set his enemies free. On that day when one of his
Companions said, "Today is the day of the battle. Today Allah humiliates the
Quraish," the Prophet protested, "Today is the day of mercy. Today Allah honors
the Quraish."
Whenever the Quraish attacked him he would supplicate Allah:
"Please Allah, guide my people, for they don't know." On his way back from Taif,
where the villagers stoned him until he bled, an angel appeared and offered to
punish the transgressors. The Prophet declined, because maybe one day one of his
assailants would be guided.
For his magnanimous character, the Prophet has been praised
by Muslims throughout their history. Now, centuries after his death, believers
around the world continue to express their devotion to him through poetry and
song in many different tongues. Here we offer you a

The Burda or The

Muhammad (peace be upon him). Composed by Imam Al-Busairi in the 13th century
CE, it has been explained by scholars and sung by lovers of the Prophet ever
since. For more information about the poem, please click here. There are many recordings of the Burda. This version is

[IslamCity] ISL: Hinduism or Islam - No Religion Advocates Violence

2006-02-11 Thread Abdul Alim

“No Religion Advocates Violence”Bangalore “The difference between Hindus and Muslims happens to be just a small apostrophe in the way they think. Hindus think that everything — sun, moon, stars, water, snake, earth and all …is God. Muslims, on the other hand, think that everything is God’s creation. Hence the difference between the two is just an apostrophe”. This is how the Founder of Islamic Research Foundation, Dr. Zakir Naik began the inter-religious dialogue on ‘The concept of God in Hinduism and Islam — in the light of sacred scriptures’ on January 21, 2006 in Bangalore. Dr Zakir Naik and Sr Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of Art of Living Foundation came together on a common
platform for this dialogue. While Dr Zakir Naik quoted extensively from the Hindu scriptures and the Quran, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said there is a need for a sense of belonging-ness to unite members of diverse communities. “People always think they are on the right path and that everyone else is wrong. But there is need for broader understanding. They should take what is common and appreciate the common thread,” he said. “Be it Hinduism or Islam, no religion advocates violence,” Sri Sri Ravi Shankar asserted. Dr Naik seconded him saying, no Muslim will spread violence if he is true to his religion. Both the speakers agreed upon one point that God was one despite the ways of worship being different.“Let us not try to change the other. While there are differences, let us shake hands. Then there will be harmony. Love should be supreme. Do not criticise the idol worshippers,” said Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. While Dr Zakir Naik impressed the crowd with his knowledge of the Quran, the
Vedas and the Upanishads, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar sent across his message of peace, love, forgiveness and humanitarian values in his soft and soothing voice. The dialogue was followed by an open Question and Answer Session for the audience. The inter-religious dialogue for understanding God, was a historic event as it not just brought together two great spiritual scholars, but also helped people from different communities understand each other, which really is the need of the hour today. The Event organised by the Discover Islaam Educational Trust (DIET) and Art of Living, was a crowd-puller with over 50,000 people listening to the two scholars amidst pin-drop silence. Millions across the world also watched this event while it was being telecast live on ‘Peace TV’.http://www.islamicvoice.com/February2006/CoverStory/ To listen to the audio of entire "Peace to India" event: http://www.thetruecall.com

[IslamCity] HEZBOLLAH LEADER TELLS DAJJAL BUSH TO ''SHUT UP''

2006-02-11 Thread assalamu_alaikum_1427
Hezbollah Leader to Bush: 'Shut Up'
By SAM F. GHATTAS
Associated Press
February 9, 2006
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060209/ap_on_re_mi_ea/prophet_drawings_145

BEIRUT, Lebanon - The leader of Hezbollah, heading a march by hundreds
of thousands of Shiite Muslims Thursday, said President Bush and his
secretary of state should shut up after they accused Syria and Iran
of fueling protests over cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

Denmark, meanwhile, said it had temporarily closed its diplomatic
mission in Beirut, which was burned by protesters Sunday, and all
staff had left Lebanon.

Danes feared religious processions in Muslim countries Thursday to
mark the Shiite festival of Ashoura would spill over into violence
against its diplomats and soldiers after days of protests over the
caricatures, which were first published in a Danish newspaper in
September.

About 2,000 hard-line Muslims also rallied and burned a Danish flag
Thursday in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka.

In Beirut, Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah urged Muslims
worldwide to keep demonstrating until there is an apology over the
drawings and Europe passes laws forbidding insults to the prophet.

The head of the guerrilla group, which is backed by Iran and Syria,
spoke before a mass Ashoura procession. Whipping up the crowds on the
most solemn day for Shiites worldwide, Nasrallah declared:

Defending the prophet should continue all over the world. Let
Condoleezza Rice and Bush and all the tyrants shut up. We are an
Islamic nation that cannot tolerate, be silent or be lax when they
insult our prophet and sanctities.

We will uphold the messenger of God not only by our voices but also
by our blood, he told the crowds, estimated by organizers at about
700,000. Police had no final estimates but said the figure was likely
to be even higher.

Speaking about the controversy for the first time on Wednesday, Bush
condemned the deadly rioting sparked by the cartoons and urged foreign
leaders to halt the spreading violence. Rice said Iran and Syria have
gone out of their way to inflame sentiments and to use this to their
own purposes. And the world ought to call them on it.

Iran has rejected the U.S. accusations. Syria has not commented publicly.

In protests throughout the Muslim world, demonstrators who saw the
drawings as deeply insulting to Islam have attacked embassies in
Syria, Lebanon and Iran and rioted in
Afghanistan. Islam is interpreted to forbid any illustrations of the
prophet.

Jyllands-Posten, the Danish paper that first published the drawings,
apologized last week for offending Muslims but stood by its decision
to print the cartoons, citing freedom of speech.

Other European publications recently reprinted the drawings, which
included an image of Muhammad wearing a bomb-shaped with a burning
fuse, in a show of solidarity.

Denmark's government has said it could not apologize over a
newspaper's publication.

In Brussels, Belgium, Mohamed Ahmed Sherif, chairman of the
Libyan-based World Islamic Call Society, said Muslims see the drawings
as a direct attack on their values and called the decision to print
them in European newspapers a hate program.

Sherif, speaking during a visit Brussels where he met European Union
officials, said the cartoons only serve to fuel extremism.

Nobody should blame the Muslims if they are unhappy about the images
of the Prophet Muhammad, Sherif said. It's forbidden to create a
hate program to show that the prophet is a terrorist while he's not.
Don't ask us to try to make people understand that this is not a
campaign of hate.

Nasrallah, a black-turbaned, bearded cleric, demanded an apology for
the cartoons and laws to prevent a repetition.

There can be no settlement before an apology and there can be no
settlement before laws are legislated by the European Parliament and
the parliaments of European countries, he said.

Islamic nations should demand a law committing the press and the
media in the West that proscribes insulting our prophet. If this
matter cannot be achieved that means they (West) insist on continuing
this, he added.

Nasrallah said that if the controversy touched on Jews or Israel the
West would have reacted differently and quickly.

In Denmark, the Danish Broadcasting Corp., or DR, said its journalists
in Beirut had been warned to stay away from the Shiite Ashoura
ceremonies. It has become more difficult to be a Danish reporter in
the Middle East, Lisbet Knudsen, head of DR's news desk said.

The Bangladeshi protesters — most members of the hard-line group,
Islamic Constitution Movement — marched through the streets outside
the country's main mosque in downtown Dhaka shouting, Down with
Islam's Enemies! police said.

We can't tolerate such disrespect to our prophet. It's a shameful
act. We condemn it, A.T.M. Hemayetuddin, a movement leader, told
supporters.

In the capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, about 200 people turned
an Islamic procession into a protest against the prophet
