[IslamCity] Jews in Iran

2006-05-04 Thread G.Waleed Kavalec

-- Forwarded message --
By Michael Theodoulou, Special to The Christian Science Monitor

TEHRAN, IRAN - One of the most striking of many murals in Iran's
capital, Tehran, is a towering portrait of Fathi Shkaki, a leader of
the militant Palestinian group, Islamic Jihad. He was assassinated by
Israeli agents in 1995 after he masterminded a series of suicide
bombings against Jewish civilians. A slogan beneath his face hails him
as a hero of the Islamic revolution in Palestine. Yet, stroll a little
farther along Palestine Street and you come to the Abrishami
Synagogue, the biggest of 23 synagogues in Tehran. It is regularly
attended by some 1,000 worshippers. It comes as a surprise to many
visitors to discover that Iran, a country so hostile to Israel and
with a reputation for intolerance, is home to a small but vibrant
Jewish community that is an officially recognized religious minority
under Iran's 1979 Islamic Constitution. [Ayatollah Ruhollah] Khomeini
didn't mix up our community with Israel and Zionism - he saw us as
Iranians, says Haroun Yashyaei, a film producer and chairman of the
Central Jewish Community in Iran. Like Iran's Armenian Christians,
Jews are tolerated as people of the book and allowed to practice
their religion freely, provided they do not proselytize. They elect
their own deputy to the 270-seat Parliament and enjoy certain rights
of self-administration. Jewish burial and divorce laws are accepted by
Islamic courts. Jews are conscripted into the Army. We are one of the
oldest Jewish communities in the world, Mr. Yashyaei says. When
Muslims came to Iran, we had already been here for centuries. Take
it from me, the Jewish community here faces no difficulties. If some
people left after the revolution, maybe it's because they were
scared, says Farangis Hassidim, a forceful but good-humored woman who
is charge of the only Jewish hospital in Iran. She adds: Our position
here is not as bad as people abroad may think. We practice our
religion freely, we have all our festivals, we have our own schools
and kindergartens. For her, the well-equipped hospital in central
Tehran is a model of religious harmony. We have about 200 staff, 30
percent of them Jewish, she says. These days, I'd say about 5
percent of our patients are Jewish, the rest are Muslims. A sign
outside the hospital reads in Hebrew: Love thy neighbor as thyself.
Nevertheless, many Jews emigrated after the 1979 Islamic revolution to
the United States, the favored destination, and to Israel. In just
under two decades, their numbers in Iran have dwindled from 100,000 to
about 40,000, 25,000 of them in Tehran. The shah, overthrown in 1979,
was on good terms with the Jewish state; opposition to it was a
cornerstone of Khomeini's revolution.
A tight-knit community Like other minorities, many Iranian Jews feared
an uncertain future, although their religious rights were enshrined in
the Constitution. Nevertheless, Iran's Jewish community remains the
largest in the Middle East outside of Israel, and human rights
activists confirm that members are not persecuted because of their
religion. Since the Islamic revolution, the Jewish community has
become more tight-knit and devout, according to worshippers at the
Abrishami Synagogue. After prayers, there is a festive atmosphere as
families, greeting each other with the Sabbath greeting Shabbat
Shalom, spill out into the courtyard. Savory snacks are handed out as
families share gossip and children dart up and down the stairs playing
tag. A small portrait of Ayatollah Khomeini is painted on the wall of
the stairwell. Privately, there are grumbles about discrimination,
much of it of a social or bureaucratic nature. Some complain it is
impossible for Jews to get senior positions in Iran Air, the national
airline, or in the national oil company. A woman teacher says she has
been passed by for promotion several times because she is Jewish and
now hopes to emigrate to Los Angeles. A car-parts dealer says Jews
have to wait much longer for travel documents and exit visas. The most
pressing complaint is that, despite many petitions to parliament,
Jewish schools must open on Saturdays, the Jewish Sabbath. Like so
many other Iranians, those at the Abrishami synagogue are relying on
the new president, Mohamad Khatami, to support them. He's a kind man;
let's hope he can help us with this schools question, says the parts
dealer. Jews also hope for a genuine Middle East peace settlement that
would enable a more moderate Iran to recognize Israel, where many
Iranian Jews have relatives. That clearly is a long way off, despite
hints over the weekend of some kind of people-to-people dialogue. Even
Mr. Khatami, with his reputation as a relative moderate, called Israel
a racist, terrorist state in a recent interview on CNN television.
Contacts with the Jewish state are banned, although some visit through
third countries, while mail is usually routed through London.

[IslamCity] PRESENCE OF ALLAH TALLAH

2006-05-04 Thread Saba Khan

I want to ask that if we want to explain non muslim
about the presence of allah. How we will elobrate the
omnipresence of god.

Answer 11040 2004-03-08
 1. Allah Ta’ala states in the Qur’aan, ‘Verily, in
the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the
alternation of the day and night, and the ships which
sail through the sea with that which is of us to
mankind, and the rain which Allah sends down from the
sky and makes the earth alive there with after its
death, and the moving creatures of all kinds that he
has scattered therein, and in the veering of winds and
clouds which are help between the sky and the earth,
are indeed proofs for people of understanding.’
(2:164)

2. Verily, in the creation of the heavens and the
earth and in the alternation of night and day, there
are indeed signs for men of understanding. (4:190)

3. Allah has created every moving creature from water.
Of them, there are some that creep on their bellies,
some that walk on two legs and some that walk on four.
Allah creates what He wills. Verily, Allah is able to
do all things. (18:45)

4. Allah causes the day and the night to succeed each
other. Truly, in these things is indeed a lesson for
those who have insight. (18:44)

5. And verily in the cattle there is a lesson for you.
We give you to drink from that which is in their
bellies, from between excretions and blood, pure milk,
palatable to the drinkers. (14:66)

6. And your Lord inspired the bee saying, Take your
habitations in the mountains and in the trees and in
what they erect. Then, eat of all fruits, and follow
the ways of your Lord made easy (for you). There comes
forth from their bellies, a drink of varying colour
wherein is healing for men. Verily, in this indeed, a
sign for people who think. (14:68)

7. Say (O Muhammad – sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam],
‘Tell me, if (all) your water were to be sunk away,
who then can supply you with flowing (spring) water?’
(68:30)

8. Do they not see the birds above them, spreading out
their wings and folding them in? None upholds them
except the Most Beneficent (Allah). Verily, He is the
All-Seer of everything.

9. Do they not look at the camels, how they are
created? And the heaven, how it is raised? And at the
mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? And the
earth, how it is spread out? (88:17-20)

10. Say (O Muhammad – Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)
Tell me, if Allah made night continuous for you till
the day of resurrection, who is a god besides Allah
who could bring you light? Will you not then hear? Say
(O Muhammad) tell me, if Allah made day continuous for
you till the day of resurrection, who is a god besides
Allah who could bring you night wherein you rest? Will
you not then see? (28:71-72)

>From the above examples and Aayaats and a multitude of
others, a person can clearly see the Omnipresence of
Allah and that this whole system of the universe is
being run by a superior being.

and Allah Ta'ala Knows Best

[IslamCity] DAJJAL'S LITTLE WHITE RAPISTS STONEWALL PHILIPPINES COURT

2006-05-04 Thread rabiulawwal1427

Assalamu aleikum.

Photo of the rapists:
http://www.inq7.net/archive/2006/apr/28/index_image1.jpg

The term little brown brother is used in the Philippines with the
same meaning as Uncle Tom or house nigger in the US. It is based
on US President William McKinley's reference to Filipinos as our
little brown brothers when the US seized control of the Phillipines
from Spain over a hundred years ago. The term is apt for Philippine
Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez who is working to cause delays on
behalf of Dajjal Bush. Under its submissive treaty of subjugation by
the US, the Philippines has just one year to go from initial inquiry
to final completion of the trial. If not completed within one year,
all charges expire and Dajjal Bush's little white rapists go home
free. The continuous delays may prevent prosecution from being
completed prior to the one year deadline.

In large part the Philippines has itself to blame for accepting such a
treaty in the first place and for degrading itself to the point that
its people are actually ashamed of the color of their skin. For what
may be destined to be a classic in the annals of ethnic self-hate, see
the article on chronic dark underarm syndrome promoting white skin
treatments in the very same media outlet that quite properly denounces
Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez as a little brown brother:

Makeover 911 : Hardcore dark underarm solution
http://news.inq7.net/express/html_output/20060428-73978.xml.html

Yet the Inquirer sees no contradiction in denigrating its own people
while bewailing US control over the Philippines regime.

Such is the depth of degradation to which kaffirs can bring
themselves. Let us pray to Allah (S.W.T.) that their similar efforts
worldwide fail to manipulate Muslims into similar self-loathing
through the vehicle of progressive, liberal or moderate Islam
which has no place in our deen.

4 GIs accused of rape decline to enter plea in arraignment

INQ7.net
April 28, 2006
http://news.inq7.net/express/html_output/20060428-73997.xml.html

(2ND UPDATE) THE FOUR US servicemen accused of rape did not enter any
plea during their arraignment before a local court Friday, according
to reports culled by INQ7.net.

With the non-entry of a plea by Lance Corporals Daniel Smith, Keith
Silkwood, and Dominic Duplantis; and Staff Sergeant Chad Brian
Carpentier, presiding Judge Benjamin Pozon of Branch 139 of the Makati
regional trial court would enter a not guilty plea for the suspects,
according to undersecretary Zosimo Paredes, executive director of the
Visiting Forces Agreement, and a GMA Network Flash Report.

Defense lawyers said they refused to enter a plea because they planned
to appeal Pozon's ruling earlier on Friday that junked a motion by the
Department of Justice to downgrade the charges against Silkwood,
Duplantis, and Carpentier. They claimed that their clients' rights
were violated by the decision.

Pozon said the DoJ motion to downgrade the charges against the three
from principal to accessories to the crime was devoid of merit.

The judge refused to be interviewed after the hearing.

Smith, Silkwood, Duplantis, and Carpentier appeared in public for the
first time Friday and attended their arraignment on charges that they
allegedly raped a Filipina in the former American naval base in Subic
on Nov.1, 2005.

The four allegedly raped the 22-year-old Filipina inside a van. The
van's Filipino driver, Timoteo Soriano allegedly witnessed the crime
although he had recanted his testimony about seeing the four Americans
allegedly rape their victim.

Soriano had been dropped as one of the respondents to the case when it
was initially lodged at the Olongapo City regional trial court but the
victim's lawyers appealed his reinstatement.

The corridor on the 11th floor of the Makati City Hall was full of
people, mostly media men and members of the women's group Gabriela.

The session hall was also jampacked, mostly with staff from the US
embassy, which under the VFA had placed the four servicemen under its
custody up until their arraignment this Friday.

The VFA is the treaty that allows the US military forces' presence in
the Philippines. It provides for procedures in cases where US soldiers
violate Philippine laws. In this case, the VFA allows the US embassy
custody of the accused while the investigation and trial are ongoing.

The rape victim's mother arrived with a woman whose head was covered
with a bandana, partly obscuring her face. It was unclear if the woman
was the victim.

Only the mother and brother of the victim were allowed inside the
session room after being frisked by security guards.

Journalists and photographers, who were not allowed inside the
courtroom, had to peer through glass panels to see inside.

The victim's mother made a public appeal for help. Sana tulungan nyo
kami. Kahit bundok-

[IslamCity] Doha Inter-faith Forum Seeks UN Ban on Blasphemy

Doha Inter-faith F,tazorum Seeks UN Ban on
  Blasphemy

The participants also declared
that religions have nothing to do with "terrorist acts" carried out
by "fanatics."
  DOHA, April 28, 2006 (IslamOnline.net News Agencies) -
Muslim and Christian clerics, joined by Jewish rabbis, ended the fourth
edition of an inter-faith dialogue in Qatar Thursday, April 27, with a
call for United Nations action to ban blasphemy and offenses to religious
  symbols.
Participants in the three-day forum "call for the respect of
religious sanctities and symbols, affirming that respect for sanctities
does not clash with the right to (free) _expression_," they said in a
closing statement carried by Agence France-Presse (AFP).
"The participants look to the issuing of international
legislation by the United Nations that would call for the respect of
religions and declare any insult to their symbols to be a crime," the
  statement said.
The participants also declared that religions have nothing to
do with "terrorist acts" carried out by "fanatics."
The call, one of 10 recommendations adopted by the
conference, follows a crisis sparked by the publication of cartoons that
lampooned Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in European
papers, which infuriated Muslims around the world.
EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana and European External
Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner have suggested that the EU
and the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) co-draft a UN
  resolution on religious tolerance.
The OIC and the Arab League, the Muslim world's main
political bodies, are seeking a UN resolution, backed by possible
sanctions, to protect religions against blasphemy.
  "Cultural Workshop"

Huntzinger said the workshop aims
at "countering the risk of the development of misunderstandings,
prejudices and fear among peoples and civil societies."
France announced on the sidelines of the conference
the launch of a "cultural workshop" starting in September in a bid to
promote understanding between the West and the Islamic world.
The workshop, which is the brainchild of French
President Jacques Chirac, will hold its first session in Paris on
September 13-15, ambassador-at-large Jacques Huntzinger told
  AFP.
Huntzinger said the workshop aims at "countering the
risk of the development of misunderstandings, prejudices and fear among
peoples and civil societies" on the two banks of the
  Mediterranean.
According to a presentation of the project, a copy of
which was obtained by AFP, the second session will be held in the Spanish
city of Seville February 7-9, 2007 and the third in the Egyptian port of
  Alexandria in June next year.
Participants in the "dialogue of peoples and cultures"
will come from non- governmental organizations although organizers will
seek the support of the governments concerned.
"The platform must be given to historians, educators,
researchers and new thinkers on both banks. With the help of the media,
satellite channels and the Internet, they will know how to fight
  stereotypes," the document says.
The series of workshops will be open to Arab countries
of the Maghreb, Levant and Gulf, in addition to modern-day Israel, Turkey
and member states of the European Union.
Themes to be debated will range from the role of media
to the relationship between society and religion in secular systems and
  those based on Shari`ah.
Earlier this month, Spain urged the West to engage in
a more constructive dialogue with the Muslim world to promote mutual
  understanding.
Seeking to repair damages caused by the cartoons,
Denmark, whose mass-circulation daily Jyllands Posten first
published the odious cartoons in September, is planning to boost its
spending on Middle East relations by up to 20 percent.
Doha also played host in February to the second
conference of the UN-sponsored Alliance of Civilizations, which urged
action not talk to bridge the yawning gap between the Muslim world and the
West in the wake of the cartoons crisis.

[IslamCity] Iraq War Drain on US Budget: You need to pay more......................

2006-05-04 Thread Abu Nabhan

Your tax is working well, it's not for you or your family but to play evinl events of the represantaveof Evil and who lead war against humanity. pay more watch the dramma. your leader is not lossing but you ango amrican people losing and who others supporting them. No "Charge-free" Iraq War Drain on US Budget: Report CAIRO, April 28, 2006 (IslamOnline.net) – Fighting a
no "charge-free" war unlike the 1990-91 Gulf War thanks to generous Gulf contributions, the US occupation of Iraq cost American taxpayers and the state coffers a staggering $6 billion a month or $200 million a day with federal budget deficit running at near record levels, a leading British newspaper reported on Friday, April 28. With no end in sight to the soaring occupation costs, the US administration has been disillusioned with Iraq's rich oil resources as it first hoped that they might pay for the occupation costs as the Arab country sit on the world's second largest oil reserves after Saudi Arabia, The Independent reported. According to a report by the non-partisan Congressional Research Service (CRS), various "key war cost questions" and "major unknown lie ahead. So far, the occupation of Iraq has already cost the United States $320bn (£180bn), according to the CRS. The Bush administration has refused to provide any specific overall figure for the war's cost. The administration has
awarded lucrative oil and reconstruction contracts to giant US firms, chiefly Halliburton and Bechtel Group. The New York Times reported on April 24 that a Halliburton's subsidiary, that was awarded a $2.4 billion no-bid contract, has mishandled the construction of a key pipeline crossing, which was presumed to be the main link between Iraq's rich northern oil fields and the export terminals and refineries that could generate much-needed gasoline, heating fuel and revenue for "reconstruction costs." Although the failures of that
effort are routinely attributed to "insurgent" attacks, the paper says, an examination of this project shows that troubled decision-making and execution have played equally important roles. Vietnam War The paper says that even if the US started withdrawing some of its troops this year, the conflict is set to be more expensive in real terms than the Vietnam War, a generation ago. In today's
dollars, according to CRS analysis, the eight-year Vietnam war cost only $549bn, much less than the $690bn projected for Iraq, and a combined $811bn bill for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now the Senate is set to approve another emergency spending bill in May, meaning that Iraq will have consumed $101bn in fiscal 2006 alone, almost double the $51bn of 2003, the year of the invasion itself. A study by Joseph Stiglitz, the Columbia University economist and former Nobel Prize winner, and the Harvard lecturer Linda Bilmes drew further a bleak financial picture. They reckoned the conflict could ultimately cost $2 trillion, if all factors are taken into account. These include the long-term healthcare costs for the 16,000 US soldiers already wounded in the conflict, and other indirect or hidden costs such as the rise in the price of oil, the need to finance larger budget deficits, higher recruiting costs and losses to the economy caused by the wounded. The invasion-turned-occupation of Iraq has proved a
thorn in the US administration's side with growing calls at home on President George W. Bush to withdraw the troops as soon possible with death tool among US soldiers hitting more than 2,400 as the occupation enters its fourth year. The administration claimed in the run-up to the war that Baghdad had extensive stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons and was working clandestinely to build a nuclear arsenal, therefore, presenting a threat to the world. An extensive CIA-led probe undertaken after the US military took control of Iraq failed to turn up any such weapons. The Americans were increasingly supporting the impeachment of the wartime president for misleading the American public and lying to them about his Iraq war. A Zogby International poll showed last month that 51 percent of respondents agreed that Bush should be impeached if he lied about Iraq.

[IslamCity] Get the Real Picture of The Prophet Mohamed (Peace be upon him)

Get the Real Picture of The Prophet Mohamed (Peace be upon him)

Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abdul Mutallib

Born 570 C.E. (Christian Era); died 633 C.E.

The following is based on books, manuscripts, texts and actual
eyewitness accounts, too numerous to mention herein, preserved in
original form throughout the centuries by both Muslims and non-Muslims.

Many people today are discussing Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.
Who was he exactly? What did he teach? Why was he loved so much by
some and hated so much by others? Did he live up to his claims? Was he
a holy man? Was he a prophet of God? What is the truth about this man?

You be the judge.

First before listing the A-Z (+2) Facts about Muhammad, peace be upon
him, let us begin with the very simple historical evidences. Here are
the facts as narrated by thousands of people, many of whom knew him
personally.

Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abdul Mutalib (Muhammad, the son of
Abdullah, the son of Abdul Mutalib) - Muhammad means praised one or
praising one

Muhammad was born from the lineage of Abraham's oldest son, Ishmael
(Ismail in Arabic), to the noble tribe of the Quraish who were the
leaders of Makkah in those days,.

He never fell into the common practice of his tribesmen to worship
statues, idols or man-made gods.

He believed that God was truly One God, and as such, He was to be
worshipped alone, without any other gods beside Him.

He held the Name of God in the highest of reverence and never took
God's Name in vain or for any vainglorious purpose.

He despised false worship and all of the complexities and degradation
to which it leads.

He insisted on keeping the Commandments of Almighty God, just as
prophets of old had done in the past.

He never committed adultery, and he forbids others from doing it.

He forbade usury and interest on money lending, as Jesus, peace be
upon him, had done centuries before him.

He never gambled and did not allow it.

He never drank alcohol or strong drink; even though it was a very
normal thing for people of his time and place.

He did not engage in gossip and used to turn away from hearing
anything related to it.

He offered prayers in the manner and direction (toward Jerusalem,
until Allah ordered the change toward Makkah) as was prescribed of
prophets in the Bible, standing, bowing, kneeling and prostrating as
they had done before him.

He fasted for days at a time to be closer to Almighty God and away
from the narrowness of worldly attractions.

He taught that Jesus, peace be upon him, was the Immaculate Conception
and miracle birth of Mary, and that she was the best creation of
Almighty God.

He insisted even to the Jews of Madinah, that Jesus, peace be upon
him, was the Messiah, the Christ, the one predicted to come in their
Torah (Old Testament).

He said Jesus, peace be upon him, did many miracles by the permission
of Almighty God, curing the lepers, restoring sight to the blind and
even bringing a dead man back to life.

He stated clearly that Jesus, peace be upon him, was not dead, rather
Almighty God had raised him up.

He predicted Jesus, peace be upon him, is going to return again in the
Last Days to lead the true believers in a victory over the evil and
unrighteous people, and he will destroy the Anti-Christ.

He commanded the payment of charity to the poor and he was the
defender and protector of widows, orphans and the wayfarers.

He ordered people to unite with their families and honor the ties of
kinship and he restored relationships between family members.

He required his followers to engage only in lawful marriage
relationships with women, and forbid sex outside of Almighty God's
Ordinance.

He insisted on giving women their proper rights, dowries, inheritance
and property.

His patience and humble attitude were exemplary and all who knew him
had to admit to these virtues.

 A. He never lied, never broke a trust, never bore false witness,
he was famous with all the tribes in Makkah and was known as: Spirit
of Truth (As-Saddiq).

 B. He never once engaged in sex outside of marriage, nor did he
ever approve of it, even though it was very common at the time.

 D. His relationship to Ayesha was only that of marriage. He did

[IslamCity] Khutbah: Du'a and Its Relationship with Destiny

2006-05-04 Thread Sadia Qureshi

Du'a and Its Relationship with Destiny*by Yasir QadhiThe topic of du'a and its relationship to destiny (qadr) is a very important one, and one around which much confusion exists. Many people ask: "If everything has already been destined to occur, then of what use is du'a, as, if Allah has written what I want, I will get it without making du'a and if it is not written for me, then I will never get it no matter how much du'a I make?" The response to this question lies in understanding that the outcome of anything is dependent on the performance of the efforts that are necessary to procure it. In other words, it has already been decreed, for example, that a seed will give fruit if
planted, but this will not occur unless the farmer takes the appropriate efforts in irrigating the crop, maintaining it, protecting the seedling as it grows, and ensuring as much as he can that the factors are amenable for the plant to give fruit. So even though a person believes in the Divine Decree, he must at the same time strive all he can to ensure that the desired goal occurs. So du'a is the means that one uses to achieve the desired goal that one has, and this means in no way contradicts the destiny that has been written for that person. This stance is clarified by the Prophet sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam's hadith reported by Thawban, that he, sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam said:"Nothing increases one's life-span except good deeds, and nothing repels Divine Decree except du'a. A person may be deprived of sustenance due to a sin that he does" (Ibn Majah)!
In other words, the performance of good deeds is a cause of increasing one's life span, so if a person puts in the necessary effort, the results will be achieved, and this is also destined. So both the means to achieve a goal, and the fulfillment of the goal itself, are already decreed. If someone were to ask: "How can du'a repel Divine Decree?" we would respond, "The fact that you may be ill has already been decreed by Allah for you, as has the fact that you will ask Allah to cure you of this illness (i.e. both the illness and your asking to cure the illness has been decreed). In a similar manner, a person maybe deprived of his sustenance that was decreed for him, since Allah's eternal knowledge encompassed the fact that this person would perform a sinful deed that would cause the deprivation of his sustenance. All of this, then, is from the decree of Allah, all Glory and Praise be to Him." There are a number of
ahadith that clarify this point. For example, Mu'adh ibn Jabal reported that the Prophet sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam said:"Caution will be of no benefit against Divine Decree, but du' a benefits all things, whether they come down or not. I therefore advise you to make du'a, O servants of Allah" (Ahmad, Abu Ya'la and al-Tabarani)! So no matter how cautious a person is, he cannot escape what is written for him, simply because Allah controls everything, and nothing escapes His Knowledge or Power. However, by turning to Allah through du'a , it is possible to avert something that might have been decreed. Salman al-Farsi narrated that the Prophet sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam said:"Nothing repels Divine Decree except du'a, and nothing increases one's life-span except good deeds" (Al-Tirmidhi and Al-Hakim).This hadith informs us in no uncertain
terms that the only way that we can repel some Divine Decree is through the means of du'a. So it is possible that some unpleasant matter has been preordained for us, but only if we do not make du'a to avert it from us. So if du'a is made, then this matter will not occur or be fulfilled, whereas if du'a is left, the misfortune will occur.Another narration in al-Tirmidhi also supports this. The Prophet sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam said:"There is no Muslim on the face of the earth that asks Allah for anything except that Allah gives it to him, or averts from him a similar evil, as long as he does not ask for something evil or for breaking the ties of kinship" (Al-Tirmidhi).From this narration, the benefits of du'a are made clear, and its value is understood. For not only is a person rewarded for making a du'a, but it is also a cause of repelling an evil that was destined for
him, and in obtaining the good that he was expecting. Ibn Hajr, commenting on the benefits of du'a, said:"And the benefit of performing du'a is the attainment of reward by obeying the command (of Allah to make du'a), and also by the attainment of what is asked for, for there is a possibility that the request is dependent on the du'a, since Allah is the Creator of both the effort and result of the effort" (Fath Al-Bari)!Therefore, the proper response to the question posed at the beginning of the chapter is, in the words of Ibn al-Qayyim, as follows:"The logical consequences of such a reasoning leads to a rejection of all efforts. It can, therefore, be said to a person who holds this view,

[IslamCity] IS IT HARAM TO LOVE SOMEONE OTHER THAN YOUR SPOUSE?

2006-05-04 Thread Saba Khan

QUESTION
I would like to know if it is haram to be in love with
someone other than your spouse?
I was inlove with someone that I could not be married
to because of our families. However, I am married now
to someone else, yet I still feel love for the other
person. I feel that I should be married to the one I
love. I always think of that person even during
intimate moments with my spouse and I feel I am being
untruthful and unfare to this marriage. I have tried
for the past two years (since I've been married) to
forget about that person and move on. I understand
that to be in love or fall in love with someone other
than your spouse in baseless according to Islam. But
what shall a person do when facing this dilema? How do
I achieve control over my emotions? Please understand
that I have no communication or contact with the one
I'm inlove with. We have not spoken since before my
wedding 2 years ago. Your detailed answer will be
greatly appreciated and helpful!
InshAllah...Aslamalakum

ANSWER
There are two types of love: voluntary and
involuntary.

The involuntary love is where there is a feeling of
love in the heart. But
one does not cultivate or pursue this feeling. One
tries to ignore this
feeling but it causes pain. For this pain, one will be
rewarded. The more
one makes Sabr, uses one intellect and understands
that it is not practical
to follow the demands of this love, then one is
drawing closer to Allah Ta'
ala due to the Sabr (patience) one is adopting.

The second type of love is voluntary. After
experiencing the feeling of love
in the heart, one contemplates about the beloved one.
To have this type of
love for someone besides one's wife is sinful. It is
sinful to intentionally
fantasise about this other woman. If at the time of
intimacy with one;s
wife, one fantasises about this other woman, then you
will be considered to
be making Zina. You will get the sin of Zina because
of your intentions
while your wife will get no sin.

The solution is to ignore this love in the heart. Do
not contemplate or
fantasise about this person and avoid contact with
her. If any thought about
this woman involuntarily enters the mind, ignore it.
Ignoring it causes you
pain then make Sabr, for which you will be highly
rewarded. If you pass away
in this state, then, Insha Allah, you will receive the
reward of one who was
martyred in the path of Allah Ta'ala.

Make Du'aa unto Allah Ta'ala to replace the love of a
mortal with his
eternal love. May Allah Ta'ala grant us all his true
love, Aameen.

and Allah Ta'ala Knows Best

[IslamCity] Political Tsunami

2006-05-04 Thread G.Waleed Kavalec

-- Forwarded message --
Here, Fisk asks if the courage of Walt and Mearsheimer might give other
American writers enough spine to state the obvious. Molly Ivins's recent
commentary, after her years of being terrorized into silence, suggests that
the answer is yes.

United States of Israel?

When two of America's most distinguished academics dared to suggest that US
foreign policy was being driven by a powerful 'Israel Lobby' whose influence
was incompatible with their nation's own interests, they knew they would
face allegations of anti-Semitism. But the episode has prompted America's
Jewish liberals to confront their own complacency. Might the tide be
turning?

By Robert Fisk

04/27/06 http://news.independent.co.uk/world/fisk/article360492.ece

The Independent -- - Stephen Walt towers over me as we walk in the Harvard
sunshine past Eliot Street, a big man who needs to be big right now (he's
one of two authors of an academic paper on the influence of America's Jewish
lobby) but whose fame, or notoriety, depending on your point of view, is of
no interest to him. John and I have deliberately avoided the television
shows because we don't think we can discuss these important issues in 10
minutes. It would become 'J' and 'S', the personalities who wrote about the
lobby - and we want to open the way to serious discussion about this, to
encourage a broader discussion of the forces shaping US foreign policy in
the Middle East.

John is John Mearsheimer, a political scientist at the University of
Chicago. Walt is a 50-year-old tenured professor at the John F Kennedy
School of Government at Harvard. The two men have caused one of the most
extraordinary political storms over the Middle East in recent American
history by stating what to many non-Americans is obvious: that the US has
been willing to set aside its own security and that of many of its allies in
order to advance the interests of Israel, that Israel is a liability in the
war on terror, that the biggest Israeli lobby group, Aipac (the American
Israel Public Affairs Committee), is in fact the agent of a foreign
government and has a stranglehold on Congress - so much so that US policy
towards Israel is not debated there - and that the lobby monitors and
condemns academics who are critical of Israel.

Anyone who criticises Israel's actions or argues that pro-Israel groups
have significant influence over US Middle East policy, the authors have
written, ...stands a good chance of being labelled an anti-Semite. Indeed,
anyone who merely claims that there is an Israeli lobby runs the risk of
being charged with anti-Semitism ... Anti-Semitism is something no-one wants
to be accused of. This is strong stuff in a country where - to quote the
late Edward Said - the last taboo (now that anyone can talk about blacks,
gays and lesbians) is any serious discussion of America's relationship with
Israel.

Walt is already the author of an elegantly written account of the resistance
to US world political dominance, a work that includes more than 50 pages of
references. Indeed, those who have read his Taming Political Power: The
Global Response to US Primacy will note that the Israeli lobby gets a
thumping in this earlier volume because Aipac has repeatedly targeted
members of Congress whom it deemed insufficiently friendly to Israel and
helped drive them from office, often by channelling money to their
opponents.

But how many people in America are putting their own heads above the
parapet, now that Mearsheimer and Walt have launched a missile that would
fall to the ground unexploded in any other country but which is detonating
here at high speed? Not a lot. For a while, the mainstream US press and
television - as pro-Israeli, biased and gutless as the two academics infer
them to be - did not know whether to report on their conclusions (originally
written for The Atlantic Monthly, whose editors apparently took fright, and
subsequently reprinted in the London Review of Books in slightly truncated
form) or to remain submissively silent. The New York Times, for example,
only got round to covering the affair in depth well over two weeks after the
report's publication, and then buried its article in the education section
on page 19. The academic essay, according to the paper's headline, had
created a debate about the lobby's influence.

They can say that again. Dore Gold, a former ambassador to the UN, who now
heads an Israeli lobby group, kicked off by unwittingly proving that the
Mearsheimer-Walt theory of anti-Semitism abuse is correct. I believe,
he said, that anti-Semitism may be partly defined as asserting a Jewish
conspiracy for doing the same thing non-Jews engage in. Congressman Eliot
Engel of New York said that the study itself was anti-Semitic and deserved
the American public's contempt.

Walt has no time for this argument. We are not saying there is a
conspiracy, or a cabal. The Israeli lobby has every right to carry on its
work - all
