Ok - noted. Do not create new peer during rolling upgrade is safest, or
otherwise do not do so where namespace or filter spec is required. Is this
documented?

Not a issue. You can create a peer without table-cfs config when rolling

If a rolling upgrade to 1.4 (or 1.3.1 if this ends up being backported to it)
is in progress, and I create a new replication peer that doesn't use the
table-cf filter or a namespace, is there still an issue?

[~zghaobac] I think 1.3 is ready for the first RC after most pressing issues
has been addressed and I don't want to delay that any longer (also this one
affect other branches anyway, so may be in next point releases? Can pull in
1.3.1 later.

So the old RS still can read the old table-cfs znode and the old peer's
replication still work on old rs. The only problem is we can't create new peer
during rolling upgrade. I thought we need describe this in release note and
hbase book.

NO. Not do it. And old rs can't parse NS information due to it not support
it. So if you create one peer with NS during rolling upgrade, the old RS
replication will miss the ns information.

bq. This means during rolling update, if one peer with namespace added,
replication on old regionserver could not work.
The TableCFsUpdater copy table-cfs to peer znode, but it didn't delete the
table-cfs node, why replication on old regionserver can't work?

bq. But why changes for rb scripts of shell not be backported?
Sorry for this. I will add it in v4.

Due to we modify proto object of ReplicationPeerConfig (add tableCFs field),
so when we do rolling update, we have to update original ReplicationPeerConfig
data on ZK firstly (See TableCFsUpdater.java). This means during rolling
update, if one peer with namespace added, replication on old regionserver
could not work. We have to wait for the rolling update completed. This is the
big problem about HBASE-11393 for rolling update. Could we accepte it for
already released branch?

As for the patch v3, totally it looks good to me. But why changes for rb
scripts of shell not be backported?

Thanks for taking on this work. How different is the patch for branch-1 vs the
master patch? In branch-1 and below, we cannot remove deprecated methods for
public interfaces or interfaces exposed to the ReplicationEndpoints (like
ReplicationPeerConfig, etc). So, the ReplicationAdmin changes should be undone.

[~chenheng] you want to take a look at this?

> As HBASE-11386 mentioned, the parse code about replication table-cfs config
> will be wrong when table name contains namespace and we can only config the
> default namespace's tables in the peer. It is a bug for all branches which
> support namespace. HBASE-11393 resolved this by use a pb object but it was
> only merged to master branch. Other branches still have this problem. I
> thought we should fix this bug in all branches which support namespace.

[~enis] Please help to review this. Thanks. This bug has been existed since we
support Namespace. The fix is necessary for branch-1. But I don't know if it
can be fixed in branch-1.3, branch-1.2, branch-1.1 and 0.98..

The findbug warning was introduced by HBASE-16367. The white space was
introduced by protobuf generated code. The failed ut is not relate to this
