[Bug 121708] Tokens, (like 'cdot') in Formula Editor are shifted

I can reproduce the problems with integrals and partial derivatives posted by
Mijail. I can also confirm that the problems are not visible in the PDF export,
only on screen. This is also the case for the examples that I posted, withe
sole exception of the square root, which has the (comparably minor) problem
that there remains a small gap between the root sign and the overline.

I also do not share the point of view that this does not affect the
functionality of the program. I use OpenOffice mostly for slides, and I need to
be able to project them in a way that looks professional.

Formula almost without problems, when no OpenSymbol is installed.

Could you try to write a formula that includes integrals and partial
differentials? I have the same problem since I work in Windows 8.1 with OO
4.0.1 and integrals really look awful. Have you tried to use built-in Export as
pdf? Documents generated by that don't seem to be affected by this issue.

(In reply to Nicholas Moisan from comment #1)
I was able to replicate the two bugs shown in the example, also on a Windows
8 64-bit computer. I was able to reproduce this bug in 3.4.1 as well as
 version 4.0.0.
I did not notice this bug occurring with any other symbols besides the
cdot and sqrt symbols. I was unable to test this on a Windows 7 machine,
so I have no insight into whether this is an OS-related bug or not.

However, I would argue that this is a p5 level bug as it is only a minor
issue and does not affect the functionality of the program, just makes it
 slightly more difficult to read.

Well, I agree that it doesn't affect the functionality of the program, but I
can't use OO Impress anymore since slides present formulas with a wrong aspect
for a presentation. This bug is really annoying, specially when using integrals
and partial derivatives.

I can see from the screenshot, that it is indeed not OpenSymbol.

Please take a text document in Writer and look, what the character table of the
Insert Special Character dialog shows, when you select font OpenSymbol.

Please try whether a simple editor can select font OpenSymbol.

My guess is, that the font is not properly registered in Windows. You can try
to delete the font OpenSymbol in Windows and reinstall it.

Only to be sure, look whether a replacement is entered in Tools Options
OpenOffice Fonts.

Which local has your Win 8.1.?

Thanks for the download, but I had 2.4.3 already installed - so this cannot be
the source of the trouble. To illustrate the problem again I attach three
screen snips from the exactly the same file:
1) on Win 7 OO 4.0.0 Font 2.4.3
2) on Win 8.1 OO 4.0.1 Font 2.4.3
3) enlargement of 2) to show detail of Sqrt break, cdot and - positions
shots are from two laptops, both i7 and geforce graphics, albeit of slightly
different specs and at different screen resolutions (I tested that, it makes no
difference to the effect)

This is still a bug under win8.1 64-bit: there are additional problems with the
vertical placement of the '-' sign and a seemingly random allocation of a
thicker and thinner 'over' line (the latter is not in a printout, so may be an
aliasing issue on the screen). However, the displacement in to the left AND
down does seem to affect most (all?) operators (see attached screenshot also
for the ':'

The document was started on Win7 and 4.00, and now migrated to a new machine -
it was fine before so there must be a difference how Win8.1 handles fonts and
distributes spaces...
Can we have a fix please, because this makes working with equations really
annoying

Please make sure, that the OpenSymbol font is installed on your new Win8.1
machine. The filename is opens___.ttf

If the font is installed, please tell us the version of the font.

I am replicating this bug with Niholas Moisan, but on a Windows 7 computer,
running OOo-dev 3.5.0 AOO350m1 (9611) and OOo 4.0.1 AOO401m5 (9714). In both
cases, when I try 25*13 (replace the * with the cdot) or 5*3, the dot is
correctly centered between the numbers. Also the square root sign (root of 5)
is correctly drawn.

The dot and the square root on Moison's computer look identical to those in the
Illustration of the shifted tokens file, but they look normal on mine.

I am running with an Nvidia video graphics card, Lenovo W520 i7 computer
Windows 7.

Moison is running with a Lenovo ideaPad y410p with an NVidea GForce graphics
card, also an i7.

I don't know how to class this in terms of priority or severity for a broader
market. I personally do a lot of mathematical writing (e.g. preparing slides
for classes, writing textbooks). If the program had these problems on my
computer, I would never use it.
