Is it really [EMAIL PROTECTED] or did you edit it?

Yes I edited it. They correspond to my user name and company realm
which I'm sure are correct.

[jabberd2] Multi-user chat

2008-01-14 Thread Aiko Barz
Hi,

what are the multi-user chat recommendations?

1) mu-conference:
There is no gentoo maintainer for this package. Creating my own
Portage script revealed some coding issues:
   http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=118113

I wrote a patch and send it to the mu-conference mailinglist: No
   reaction...
   https://mail.gna.org/public/mu-conference-talk/2007-11/msg0.html

2) palaver:
The main inspiration for writing palaver was to replace JCR
mu-conference. How many people are using palaver?
   http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=205728

Are there other packages or is there a plan to implement the multiuser
chat into jabberd2?

Regards,
Aiko

I'm using mu-conference with a small userbase (rarely more than 50 users
in jabberd, and I think no one uses multi-user stuff). Compiling and
installing mu-conference is really easy if you follow the readme file so
I never worried about the lack of an OS-maintained package. It's just one
executable with a relatively simple configuration file; no libraries or
hard-coded directories to make it difficult.

It would be nice if you didn't have to jump through the JCR hoops, I'll
admit. But I've not heard of anything else, unless there are good IRC
gateways for jabberd -- in which case you'd have to maintain an IRC server
but if it were heavily used I think I'd prefer that anyway.

I do not have such plan. I'm running mu-conference for years now, fixed
some bugs, added some features. mu-conference 0.7 is now pretty
featureful and standard compliant. I see no reason to reinvent the
wheel. ;-)

But if someone is willing to submit MUC component for jabberd 2, I would
accept it gladly.
