all i had to do to get jdk1.2 running on RH 5.2 is make the following symbolic
link, which i made in the /opt/jdk1.2/jre/lib/i386 directory.

lrwxrwxrwx   1 root root   27 Apr  6 18:44 libstdc++-libc6.0-1.so.2 ->
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.2.8.0*

I think it's time for me to butt in. I've got 1.1.7a and use jEdit extensively.
So far, it's never crashed, hanged, or otherwise caused problems (other than
that the JDK consumes 20-40% of my CPU even when jEdit is idle, but I guess
that's just the garbage collection).

This is the glibc version of the JDK btw.

As for performance, it's slow, but I'm on a P133 so I guess I deserve it.

I don't know about those DBMS' but the postgresql JDBC driver (which I
maintain) does run on Linux (which it's developed under).

It's available with the postgresql source, and I have pre-compiled
binaries on my web site.

I was programming back then. When your mainfram had 129K RAM, disk drives
were 13 Mb and data was stored on tape, two digits was a good choice.

I have less sympathy, though with analysts who specified two digits in the
last ten years. Suing software vendors seem to me an entirely reasonable
thing to do if your contemproary software fails.

I worry too, about RDBMS software that thinks decimal numbers can be
stored as real (floating point) and programming languages without native
support for decimal numbers being used for accounting applications.

I wonder how many banks could cope with Biil Gates opening an account and
depositing funds equal to his nett worth?

I did it, but it doesn't work. It seems not to be the standard problem with
missing libraries, because I get a Segmentation Fault, not a missing or wrong
library message.

Can you send me (to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]) the output of ldconfig -v, ldd
java and the ls -la of /lib and /usr/lib from your system? I'll try to find out
what is the wrong library. Thanks.

Question for the developers: the Segmentation Fault can come only from wrong or
too old libraries, right? If I put the right .so libraries anything should
work, or do I need something else?

Re: fonts not found warnings

1999-04-10 Thread John N. Alegre

Matthew,

I have been trying to solve this problem for a week. Could you PLEASE repost
or send me the solution.

Serching the archives on McKeon or [EMAIL PROTECTED] is not finding the post
you mention below. It turns up posts on g and PLAF but not this one.

Serching on font does not work, it turns up too many posts. I have seen
someone say "look in the backdown messages for the answer", but what are the
messages if they are not the list archives?

Please point us in the correct direction. Shouldn't this be in the FAQ?

john

Can I use your JDK 1.2 with a Red Hat 5.2 system?

When will the final release be available?
