Re: where get bunzip2?

1999-08-31 Thread Adam Ambrose

You might need to go back to the install CD - I believe I've done a "Workstation"
install of RedHat 6.0 in the past, and it didn't install the bzip2 package by
default. In fact, it didn't install a lot of packages that had nothing to do
with providing server services, but that's another story...

Re: Problems with JDB

1999-10-13 Thread Adam Ambrose

I've been using jdb (through JDE) on the Blackdown 1.2 JDK since it's been
released, and I've only gotten the problem you described when I try to run
java/jdb with native threads. When I run it with green threads and no JIT, it
works perfectly for me, if slowly.

If you haven't already, try setting THREADS_FLAG=green and JAVA_COMPILER=NONE
before starting up java/jdb.

1.1) What is Mozilla?
 Mozilla is a cousin to Netscape Communicator that is being
developed by the Free

The latest version of the mozilla software is M12, and can be downloaded
from the above site. It's not yet quite ready for end users, but it

Did you have any NFS drives mounted when you initially tried the
install? The InstallShield program used by JBuilder gives that
erroneous "Not enough space" error message in that case. If you unmount
all NFS drives, the install should work (at least, it worked for me).

DDD is not written for any desktop environment or window manager, so you
should be able to run it in any environment without problems. More to
the point, I have run it in Gnome successfully! However, keep it mind
that it interacts with jdb, and as Nathan has mentioned on this list
before, jdb can be a bit flaky.

'ldd' is the command you want.

$ ldd `which netscape`
/lib/libNoVersion.so.1 => /lib/libNoVersion.so.1 (0x40013000)
libBrokenLocale.so.1 => /lib/libBrokenLocale.so.1 (0x4001d000)

libXext.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6 (0x400ac000)

libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x4015c000)
libstdc++.so.2.8 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.2.8 (0x4015f000)

libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x401bc000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x4000)

The 2nd to the last line there shows that this netscape is linked to
/lib/libc.so.6, which is glibc. To find the version of glibc,

$ ls -l /lib/libc.so.6
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root root   13 Dec 21 04:58 /lib/libc.so.6 ->
libc-2.1.2.so

Re: using jdb within Emacs/JDE

2000-05-17 Thread Adam Ambrose

Questions on JDE are more properly directed at the JDE mailing list:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
There is a helpful archive of this list at
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/maillist.html.

Your problem stems from the fact that the jdb that is shipped with the
latest 1.2 JDKs on linux is of a new architecture (based on JPDA). The
2.1.5 version of JDE does not work with this version of jdb.

There are several solutions:

1. Use 'oldjdb' instead of just 'jdb'.

2. Upgrade to the latest beta release of JDE, 2.1.6. There is a new
debugger in this version which is based on JPDA, and thus does not use
jdb. It is not yet complete, but is rather functional. Read the 2.1.6
release notes and check out the mailing list archives for information on
how to set this up - as it is still beta, there is no "formal"
documentation written up on it yet.

Re: JavaOne report - Linux support!

2000-06-06 Thread Adam Ambrose

Ah, so it was you who was asking the politically barbed question! :)
I enjoyed that.

It seemed that Eileen was just hyping up performance on 1.3 in
general - she just as easily could have been talking about 1.3 on Solaris.
Also, the fact that they weren't using the JIT with 1.2.2 when comparing
benchmarks with 1.3 + Hotspot was a bit silly.

All in all, it was nice to see stronger support from Sun for Linux.

The more proper place may be to put any extention packages in
$JAVA_HOME/lib/ext, as I just discovered the other day from here:

I hadn't either - I didn't specify the right path for the JDK. It
should be:
