Re: NEW JDK RELEASE!
Hi Ekkehard, I get the same error in SuSE 6.2. SuSE 6.2 has glibc2.1.1 iinstead of the supported glibc2.1.2 so maybe it's the same problem on your box (installation). If not, I would be interested to get some information about running JDK1.2.2 on a glibc2.1.1 system. Are there any RC-builds planned for glibc2.1.1 or glibc2.0 (freebsd-linux-emulation)? I downloaded rc1 before rc2 was out (in fact before any announcements were made) and it didn't work with the same error (btw it has the "glibc2.1.2" in the name too)i, that's why i "upgraded" to rc2. Would I have to recompile some apps or something like that? Or does it just fit into the system and is completely downwards-compatible(I heard something about changed symbolnames)? This is why source distribution of applications are the only worthwhile ones, we can't be having with all these bloody binary incompatibilities because someone can't be arsed to type make. Think I might give Debian a spin in VMWare... Anyone have any insights into putting glibc2.1.2 onto SuSE 6.2? I know it's already running multiple libcs - eg: support for libc5 still, so something should be possible to stick 2.1.2 on the other end. -- Rachel - End forwarded message - -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". I tried to run it on a AMD K6-2 450 and it didn't even start up because of the same error. Maybe, as you said, this isn't a glibc2.1.1 problem, but is there a specific pentium-II specific machine-code? Jan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Questions to SUN, blackdown, inprise
Hello to all of you, I've read the most of the discussion about the blackdown-inprise issue and I'm really annoyed (even more i'm pissed off) about the way SUN treated the blackdown-team. Now I have some questions and most of them are to SUN-representatives on this list: What I don't understand is: Why didn't Inprise ever contact or support (testing and bugfixing) the Blackdown team in their porting effort, if they just wanted to have (and this seems to be the case) a production quality JDK1.2.2 for running JBuilder on Linux? Why didn't SUN try to merge the efforts of blackdown, inprise and their own? (I didn't hear any comment from SUN on this list yet) Who is porting Java 2 v1.3 to Linux? Is it SUN themselves, Inprise, blackdown, or does SUN wait until IBM does it? Did the blackdown-team get the same support from SUN as Inprise? Will there be support from SUN to te blackdown-team in the future? Will there ever be a bugfixed sunwjit? When will SUN change their java-linux website and press-announcement to honor blackdowns work and add a link to www.blackdown.org, so people who want to get java2 for linux from the SUN-website can choose which implementation they want (native threads)? Is there anyone from SUN here? At last I wish to thank the blackdown-team for their great, yet still unhonored, porting-effort, and Paolo for being part in this discussion.
