Question concerning 1.2?

1999-05-17 Thread Matthew Brown

Hello,
Sorry if I am emailing to wrong person..I have just installed and
configured OpenLinux 2.2(which ships with glibc2.1) and I noticed that
after I d/led your port I noticed that it wouldn't install and then I
realized that you all haven't compiled it yet for 2.1 and I was
wondering what kind of time frame will it be until then. Don't worry I
will keep using your 1.1.7B until then..Linux will be my development
platform compared to Win98(just wished Sun would fully support Linux..)

Sincerly,
Matt Brown

1999-06-14 Thread Matthew Brown

Hello all,
I am new to this list because I am interested in your port of 1.2 to
the Linux which I more or less use constantly(system is shared with
Win98) and when I try to use Swing, it says that it cannot find Metal
Look and Feel which I have seen on the mail archive that its a bug but I
wonder is there a work around yet and could I use Swing 1.1.1beta2
which I also have on my machine in the spare time till it gets fixed??

Using 1.2 with Swing 1.1

1999-06-27 Thread Matthew Brown

Hello,
Some of u might think the above question is a big DUH since 1.2 has
Swing 1.1 built with it. What I am asking is this, since the bug
exists ( OpenLinux 2.2 / Intel) of jdk 1.2 pre v2 won't displaying Swing
due to that it can't find the metal look and feel. Is there any way
I could compile it under 1.2 but use Swing stuff from the Swingall.jar
file that I have when I am using 1.1 with jdk 1.1.7ver3???

Well,
If you want to stick with 1.1.7B and Swing 1.1, u have the following:
Netbeans Developer 2.1
VisualAge 3.0 Tech Preview(Swing 1.03) -- but it should be easy to
recompile up to use of 1.1 of JFC
AnyJ -- Not bad .. A little properitary .. fast though
Codeguide -- Decent Editor that supports plugable JDK's.

Swing 1.1.1 / JDK 1.1.7ver3

1999-07-19 Thread Matthew Brown

Hello,
Swing 1.1.1(Offical) has been released but it says that it requires
JDK 1.1.8 and I was wondering if that means its hard coded to work with
1.1.8 or can it still work with this port of 1.1.7???

Comments about JDK1.2pre-v2

1999-07-25 Thread Matthew Brown

Hello,
I dowloaded and setup my machine to use JDK1.2pre-v2(by switching
from a 16bp to 32bp) and from screen resolution(1280x1024 to
1024x768..:() so that I can try out swing to see if it works. Well,
here are my observations:

1)Seems 1.2 runs faster than 1.1
2)Did run out of memory(I know of the bug and haven't had a chance to
run it w/o JIT)
3)Ugly Fonts(fixing this bug today)
4)Does it suppose to be correct with running the SwingSet program that
it suppose to say Swing 1.0 Because thats whats it said when I
viewed it last night. I also have jdk117v3/Swing 1.1 and when I view
SwingSet inside it, it said "Swing 1.0"
5)When I viewed the table inside the SwingSet, it didn't work correctly
and when i tried using the Debug graphics, it went SLOWW.

Any comments to what I have discussed above?

Using JPDA with Blackdown JDK?

1999-12-20 Thread Matthew Brown

Hello,
As my subject line says is that question I would like to ask. Can the
JDPA work with Blackdown or does it require us to port it to Linux?? Is
the JPDA 100% java or does it require some native calls that need to be
rewritten for linux??
