2006-12-19 Thread jason smith

Hi Ricque,
thanks for getting back to me. I was actually doing a google search for the
answer, when I got your reply. Something else you might be able to help me
with. I uninstalled Jaws 7.1 as I wanted to do a repair of Jaws 7.0. I had
downloaded 7.0 from FS and so did not have the training materials installed.
I wanted to put this on before upgrading to Jaws 8.0. After uninstalling
Jaws 7.1. I came across the Jaws repair function in the menus. I chose this
and the repair was performed. However, now Jaws wouldn't start
automatically. No problem, as I have a hotkey for it and will be installing
Jaws 8.0. Stupid me, then realized, that because this repair, was done using
the Jaws 7.0 downloaded from FS, it still wouldn't contain the training
materials. I then put my Jaws 7.0 CD in and did a repair using it. My
question is, would the training materials have been completely installed? I
think we are usually prompted about whether to install the training material
or not. I wasn't prompted. I also have only one CD for Jaws 7.0. Should
there be two like with Jaws 8.0? I don't quite remember if we got two or
not. In a way I think we did. I just want to check, before I keep looking
for something that doesn't exist "smile".

thanks for your help

Hi Jason,
The following was taken from the Jaws help topics.
Enhanced Edit Support
If you select this check box, JAWS provides enhanced support for edit and
rich edit areas. This feature allows for increased accuracy while reading
text
in these areas. In addition, enhanced edit support allows JAWS to
recognize

an extended selection of text attributes and better detect languages
automatically.
However, you may experience reduced responsiveness while using certain
programs. This check box is cleared by default.
Smart Word Reading

In previous releases, when issuing the Say Word command, JAWS would only
read the current word or character when the cursor was positioned on a
text

unit,
such as a compound word, telephone number, date, time, or math equation.
With Smart Word Reading enabled in version 8.0, JAWS now reads the entire
text
unit when the Say Word command is issued.

Note: The Smart Word Reading feature is application dependent. So, if
Microsoft Word normally reads the entire text unit as one word or number,
then JAWS
will do the same. Likewise, if an application, such as WordPad, reads each
component of the text unit, then JAWS will do the same.

For example, in the sentence, "She is my sister-in-law," if the cursor is
placed anywhere on the word "sister," JAWS would say "sister." However, in
JAWS
8.0 with Smart Word Reading, JAWS will say the entire compound word,
"sister-in-law."

Likewise, in the sentence, "The appointment was at 2:00 P.M.," JAWS would
say "colon" if the cursor was placed between the digit 2 and the colon. In
JAWS
8.0 with Smart Word Reading, JAWS will say the entire text unit as two
o'clock.

As a final example, let's look at how JAWS reads a telephone number. If
the

cursor is placed between the dash and the 444 in the telephone number
1-800-444-4443,
previous JAWS versions would say, "444." In JAWS 8.0 with Smart Word
Reading, JAWS reads the entire telephone number as, "1-800-444-4443."

Indicate New Line When

In the Speech and Sounds Manager, you can specify text or a sound that you
want to hear when you move to a new line of text while typing or reading.
Select
one or more of the following check boxes to specify when JAWS should
indicate a new line:

list of 3 items
. Editor Wraps Text While Typing - JAWS indicates new lines when your
editor

or word processor wraps text to the next line while you are typing.
. User Navigates Left or Right Across a Line Break - JAWS indicates new
lines when you are reading by word or character.
. User Reads Text Containing NewLine Characters - JAWS indicates new lines
when you are using the standard JAWS reading commands and encounter the
special
character that represents the beginning of a new line of text.

Word-wrap, is available in Notepad, and Wordpad, but I can't say for sure
about Word.
The following was taken from the help topics in Notepad.
. Wrapping text enables you to see all the text on the line, but it
doesn't

affect the way text appears when it is printed.

HTH,
Ricque

Hi Ricque,
what exactly are smart-word reading, enhanced edit support, and
word wrap? Are these settings within word and if so where are they? Word
wrap, I know is automatically adjusting text, so no words are split at end
of a line. The other two things you mention, I have never heard of.
thanks Jason

Hey everyone,

pull the albumn name of the Cd I put in, nor did it pull the artist, or
any song titles. Wondering how to fix this? Also, wondering how to set
the order of how it organizes the artists, albums, etc in my music. I'd
like it to do artist, albumn, then track titles. The way it was before
was in the mp3 folder then you had a folder for the artist, then in the
artist folder the albumn name, then in that folder were the songs. Does
anyone know how to reset that?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Jason,
The following was taken from the Jaws help topics.
Enhanced Edit Support
If you select this check box, JAWS provides enhanced support for edit
and
rich edit areas. This feature allows for increased accuracy while
reading
text
in these areas.

With Smart Word Reading enabled in version 8.0, JAWS now reads the
entire
text
unit when the Say Word command is issued.

Note: The Smart Word Reading feature is application dependent. So, if
Microsoft Word normally reads the entire text unit as one word or
number,
then JAWS
will do the same. Likewise, if an application, such as WordPad, reads
each
component of the text unit, then JAWS will do the same.

For example, in the sentence, "She is my sister-in-law," if the cursor
is
placed anywhere on the word "sister," JAWS would say "sister." However,
in
JAWS
8.0 with Smart Word Reading, JAWS will say the entire compound word,
"sister-in-law."

Likewise, in the sentence, "The appointment was at 2:00 P.M.," JAWS
would
say "colon" if the cursor was placed between the digit 2 and the colon.
In

In the Speech and Sounds Manager, you can specify text or a sound that
you
want to hear when you move to a new line of text while typing or
reading.
Select
one or more of the following check boxes to specify when JAWS should
indicate a new line:

list of 3 items
. Editor Wraps Text While Typing - JAWS indicates new lines when your
editor
or word processor wraps text to the next line while you are typing.
. User Navigates Left or Right Across a Line Break - JAWS indicates new
lines when you are reading by word or character.
. User Reads Text Containing NewLine Characters - JAWS indicates new
lines
when you are using the standard JAWS reading commands and encounter the
special
character that represents the beginning of a new line of text.

Word-wrap, is available in Notepad, and Wordpad, but I can't say for
sure
about Word.
The following was taken from the help topics in Notepad.
. Wrapping text enables you to see all the text on the line, but it
doesn't
affect the way text appears when it is printed.

Rick,
Well, yesterday I called Freedom about my problem with notepad and the girl
I talked to couldn't reproduce the problem either and sais she would get
back with me, but never did.
So I called Freedom again today and spoke to another person. His notepad
was doing the same thing mine was, reading only the first few digits of a
string of digits seperated by dashes.
He said there was no fix for this.
So far, he and I are the only ones experiencing this problem that I know of.
I am sure it has something to do with smart word reading, since it works OK
in version 7.1, but have no idea what to try next.

Thanks for your information.

[JAWS-Users] Re: A problem with Notepad.

2006-12-19 Thread Denny Huff

Rick,
Well, yesterday I called Freedom about my problem with notepad and the girl
I talked to couldn't reproduce the problem either and sais she would get
back with me, but never did.
So I called Freedom again today and spoke to another person. His notepad
was doing the same thing mine was, reading only the first few digits of a
string of digits seperated by dashes.
He said there was no fix for this.
So far, he and I are the only ones experiencing this problem that I know of.
I am sure it has something to do with smart word reading, since it works OK
in version 7.1, but have no idea what to try next.

Thanks for your information.

Denny Huff

2006-12-19 Thread Robert S. Batchelor

If it happens again do a Windows Key+M to get on your desktop and the letter
"J" (if your shortcut is actually called JAWS) that will highlight it, then
change focus to desktop, use the applications keys to bring up sub menu and
scroll/arrow down to "arrange by" and pick one.

The Icon has been found. In trying to move the 7.1 Icon it had accidentally
fallen in between two
lines of Icons. When my son Brad looked at the desktop for me, it took him
about half a second to
see where it was. Thanks to all who offered help with this matter.

[JAWS-Users] a couple of new programs on the web site

2006-12-19 Thread David Ferrin

I've just actually added 4 programs but only two of them are relatively new
to me. The first is called popcorn, personally almost as good as doughnuts
but I digress. Any how it's a stand alone email client, and no I haven't
mastered it yet myself. It should be good for a companion to your portable
versions of JAWS which we've worked on in the past. Also another little
neat peace of software called singe is now up there as well. It's a
completely portable CD/DVD burning program. Now it will only burn data
disks and not audio FYI. Still I think it's way cool. Think about it
folks, not only can you create a portable version of JAWS installing the
video intercept manager without sited assistance, you could also check your
email from any internet connected computer and even copy a few files on to
CD if the need would arise. Personally I think this has been a full day's
work, I mean on the surface of it the potential is really great. Note: I
don't want any of you to turn in to hackers on other systems that don't
belong to you, this is just to make your traveling experiences a bit better.
So stay out of trouble on those strange computers.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Where's My Icon?

2006-12-19 Thread Denny Huff

Donnie,
Go to the start menu, program files, jaws version 7.1, arrow up to, Jaws,
but don't press enter.
Now with Jaws highlighted, press your application key, then type the letter
n until you hear send to. Arrow down to, desk top, create shortcut and
press enter.
This should put your Jaws 7.1 shortcut on the desk top.
Just a note, if the icon says, jaws 7.1 (
), this will mean your other Jaws shortcut is still on the desk top
somewhere.

[JAWS-Users] Re: A problem with Notepad.

2006-12-19 Thread Ricque

Hi Jason,
The following was taken from the Jaws help topics.
Enhanced Edit Support
If you select this check box, JAWS provides enhanced support for edit and
rich edit areas. This feature allows for increased accuracy while reading
text
in these areas. In addition, enhanced edit support allows JAWS to recognize
an extended selection of text attributes and better detect languages
automatically.
However, you may experience reduced responsiveness while using certain
programs. This check box is cleared by default.
Smart Word Reading

In previous releases, when issuing the Say Word command, JAWS would only
read the current word or character when the cursor was positioned on a text
unit,
such as a compound word, telephone number, date, time, or math equation.

In
JAWS
8.0 with Smart Word Reading, JAWS will say the entire text unit as two o'clock.

As a final example, let's look at how JAWS reads a telephone number. If the
cursor is placed between the dash and the 444 in the telephone number
1-800-444-4443,
previous JAWS versions would say, "444." In JAWS 8.0 with Smart Word
Reading, JAWS reads the entire telephone number as, "1-800-444-4443."

Indicate New Line When

In the Speech and Sounds Manager, you can specify text or a sound that you
want to hear when you move to a new line of text while typing or reading.
Select
one or more of the following check boxes to specify when JAWS should
indicate a new line:

list of 3 items
. Editor Wraps Text While Typing - JAWS indicates new lines when your editor
or word processor wraps text to the next line while you are typing.

Word-wrap, is available in Notepad, and Wordpad, but I can't say for sure
about Word.
The following was taken from the help topics in Notepad.
. Wrapping text enables you to see all the text on the line, but it doesn't
affect the way text appears when it is printed.

HTH,
Ricque

Hi Ricque,
what exactly are smart-word reading, enhanced edit support, and
word wrap? Are these settings within word and if so where are they? Word
wrap, I know is automatically adjusting text, so no words are split at end
of a line. The other two things you mention, I have never heard of.
thanks Jason

[JAWS-Users] comparing scripts

2006-12-19 Thread David Ferrin

Interestingly enough the same script in 7.0 is different in 8.0 after doing
a line by line comparison. Also for me in outlook 2000 the same problem
that Donnie is getting is happening to me. What I'm going to try is replace
the newer version of the script with the older copy. I've already tested
this idea in 7.0 and it does work, so now it's surgery time. Don't try this
at home folks but I do need to learn the answer for my own benefit at least.

Hi Ricque,
what exactly are smart-word reading, enhanced edit support, and word wrap?
Are these settings within word and if so where are they? Word wrap, I know
is automatically adjusting text, so no words are split at end of a line. The
other two things you mention, I have never heard of.
thanks Jason
