[JAWS-Users] Re: real speak voices in jaws 8

2007-01-04 Thread Walt Smith

That's a .wav file, so there's no way it could be used. That is, it's not a
synthesized voice. I'll pass your nice comments on to the guy whose voice it
is, though, since he's a good friend of mine.

That voice is a very good voice. I have wondered why they do not use it.

David all,

I've used the real speak voices and have mixed opinions on them. I guess
they are okay but don't think they are that much better than the standard
voice. What would be nice is if they could do a quality voice like the one
when you first put the CD in to install and it reads the first screen. That
is a very clear and nice voice

[JAWS-Users] Financial Software

2007-01-04 Thread Kerryann Ifill

I wrote to the list earlier, but I don't think it went through.
I'm on the hunt for a reasonably accessible programme for financial
tracking. I've toed with Microsoft Money and though I like its many
features, there are currently no scripts for the programme and its rather
inaccessible even with using the jaws cursor. On the other hand, money
talks is designed specifically for the needs of the blind, but its rather
primitive.
I also have access to quicken and I have no idea how the 2003 scripts will
react to a more current version.
Any thoughts or comments on this software would be much appreciated.
Have a great day.

Before purchasing RealSpeak from this site, check with FS to find out
whether or not the voices will work with JAWS before investing your
money.

I
don't know one way or the other whether RealSpeak that's not obtained
through FS will function with JAWS 8.0, so be sure before commiting

Visit
http://www.nextup.com/scansoft.html
- sample and purchase page. You can there download short demo samples.
However, you would need to purchase one of their products or purchase
JAWS8
to be able to use the voices.

Mine doesn't do it, either, but if you don't have the latest sound card
drivers, you can get them from the Creative Labs web site. They even have a
nice automatic tool that checks your system, identifies the card, and
installs the latest drivers.

I wrote to the list earlier, but I don't think it went through.
I'm on the hunt for a reasonably accessible programme for financial
tracking. I've toed with Microsoft Money and though I like its many
features, there are currently no scripts for the programme and its
rather

inaccessible even with using the jaws cursor. On the other hand, money
talks is designed specifically for the needs of the blind, but its rather
primitive.
I also have access to quicken and I have no idea how the 2003 scripts
will

react to a more current version.
Any thoughts or comments on this software would be much appreciated.
Have a great day.

[JAWS-Users] Ode To Dave

2007-01-04 Thread Donnie Parrett

It was oh so many years ago,
Probably in the days of a cave.
A woman gave birth to a little boy,
And his Father called him Dave.

He grew from a baby,
And became a boy.
And to everyone around,
He brought much joy.

And then from a boy,
He grew on some more.
And thanks to his faithfullness,
Our talents can soar.

He's the moderator,
On many a list.
And he rules them all,
With an iron like fist.

I am so happy,
And I'd just like to say.
To Mr. David Ferrin,
Have a Happy Birthday!

See ya,

[JAWS-Users] Re: Reoccuring Error Message

2007-01-04 Thread Walt Smith

Well, for one thing, it works okay for many people. The trouble is that
while it may work just fine for you, it may break someone else's files and
as far as I know, they haven't figured out exactly what specific factors
cause the damage. It may be the size of the file; it may be the length of a
given line in one of the files; it may be the characters contained in a
given line. Personally, I think that everybody who, like Donny, has ever had
a problem that they can be absolutely sure is due to the Merge utility
should let FS know about it because until they're convinced that there's
still a problem, they're not going to put much effort into tracking it down
and fixing it. Also, they may need specific files to test with if they can't
reproduce breakage in-house with their own files.
