[JAWS-Users] the web site

2007-03-02 Thread David Ferrin

Like I posted last evening, the site will be down for a day or two until all
of the DNS information gets transferred to where ever it needs to go. I'm
currently uploading all of the files to the new location as I possess the IP
address for that location. I don't see any point in posting that
information since it won't be of any use to anybody at all at the time when
everything catches up. So my email accounts may experience some brief
interruptions in service, but hopefully not for long. Other than that I'm
in the middle of a two hour upload, so it's off to read a book for a while.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Urgent help about drag and drop

Thanks for your help Patti.

 Patty,
First of all, do you have a group called family and one called friends?
If so, then highlight the name you want to be placed in one of those
 groups
and do the insert control numbpad slash command.
Next arrow to that group and repeat the drag and drop command.
Note: Sometimes if the item you are wanting to drag is separated by
 several
other items from where you are wanting to drop, you may have to drag and
drop the item a few times before you get to the group you want it in.
For example, if you have 30 items in your list, and the item you want to
move is position number 25 and the group you want to move it to is
 position
number 5, then you may have to drop that item at position number 15, then
drag and drop it at position number 10 and so on until you get it where
 you
 want it.

The drag and drop command works good.
First of all, what are you wanting to drag and drop? Possibly the cut
and paste would work just as well for you.
As for myself, I only use it in certain situations.
For example, if I am making a CD with CD Burner, I use the drag and
drop feature to rearrange the song list I am burning to the CD.
I also use it to move my contacts in Windows Live Messenger to
 different groups.
If I have a contact in the group called, co-workers and I want to move
that contact to, friends, I use the drag and drop feature.

 Insert control numbpad slash.
Place the item where you want to drag it and then another insert
control numbpad slash to drop it.

[JAWS-Users] DecTalk Access32 as default synthesizer

 Patricia,

Tell your sister that Outlook does this a bit different. When she is
creating a new message and she's in the to field just start typing the
person's name in. She can either type part or all of it. Outlook will
fill it in automatically after she leaves the field. If there is more
 than
one match in the address book she will be prompted to choose which address
she wants once she goes to send the message. She can confirm what is in
 the
field by hitting the alt key and the # 3 key on the keyboard not the
 number
pad. Let me know if you have other questions.

 thanks

[JAWS-Users] Re: latest JAWS patch

2007-03-02 Thread Patricia

Hi Jeff,

I've never used the update feature this way..but I checked it out and didn't
complete it as of now till I am clear here as to make sure by doing so the
update knows what it is updating and not putting the wrong thing on my
computer. I noticed I had to paste in a code and tehn do the update process
so just wanted to make sure that it gives me the update for xp and not vista
through this process?

Yes we should. There is a section on the homepage of the FS website that
 has
a section with a link for those of us running Windows XP and Windows 2000.
 I
have already done this. If you are running JAWS 8 and go to the help menu
and choose check for updates, you can get it from there or you can
 manually
download it from the FS website.

[JAWS-Users] Re: DecTalk Access32 as default synthesizer

2007-03-02 Thread Payment Center

Hi Arianna,

In my opinion, the easiest way to set the default synthesizer, is to
reinstall JAWS, and selected the guided installation.

In the guided installation, you can select your default synthesizer.

Best wishes,
 Aran.

I asked this question earlier in the week about using DecTalk Access32 as my
default synth. David recommended that I look on the JAWS users site for
setting up a default synth, but that didn't solve my problem.

Dec Access32 needs to be loaded and I need to know how I set this up so that
it will happen automatically when I start JAWS. I hope this is clear enough
for someone to give me an answer. Do I need to put something in the .ini
file or how do I get Dec Access32 to come up as the JAWS synth?

Hi Patricia,

I have Outlook 2003, and this is what you need to do.

Hit ALT-T for Tools.
Hit O for Options.
This puts you in a properties sheet. The first tab that you will land
on his Preferences. Go to the Email Preferences button and hit the
spacebar. Go to the Advanced Email Options and hit the spacebar. Make
sure that the checkboxes for Automatic Name Checking, and
automatically complete addresses in the To, CC, and BCC fields are
checked. Tab over to OK and hit ENTER. Tab over to OK and hit ENTER.
Then she should be good to go.

 Patricia,

Tell your sister that Outlook does this a bit different. When she is
creating a new message and she's in the to field just start typing
the
person's name in. She can either type part or all of it. Outlook
will
fill it in automatically after she leaves the field. If there is more

 than
one match in the address book she will be prompted to choose which
address
she wants once she goes to send the message. She can confirm what is
in
 the
field by hitting the alt key and the # 3 key on the keyboard not the
 number
pad. Let me know if you have other questions.

[JAWS-Users] Re: DecTalk Access32 as default synthesizer

2007-03-02 Thread Ricque

Hi Arianna,
I would have to check further, but as far as I know the Access 32 from G W
Micro will not work with Jaws.
If you do get it installed, the best you can do is this:
1. go into the Jaws default configuration manager and then synthesizer
options.
2. if the Deck talk shows up there, then select it as your default, then
close the dialogue, and save your settings when leaving the configuration
manager.
3. re-boot the computer, and see what happens.
If you need more assistance, let us know.

 I

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Out Typing Jaws 8.1163

Hi Folks,

I know that those of you who are expert keyboarders have complained about
out typing Jaws for a very long time.
Have you speed fingers been able to come up with a fix?
My job requires that I craft some fairly long reports and for the first time
I have found myself waiting for Jaws to catch up to my remedial typing
skills.
FYI, I was trained as a Columbus typist, this means you pick a key and land
on it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards

Larry Stansifer

[JAWS-Users] Re: web mail

2007-03-02 Thread tammy cantrell
Sorry to be so long in replying to your wonderful instructions. I have been
out of town. Needless to say, I now have email mountain. I greatly appreciate
the time you spent in writing me these wonderful instructions. I will be
saving these instructions in several places. I do have another question. Is
composing or replying to a message easy to do with Jaws? I was ask these
questions as I zoomed by a student. I haven't had time to get in there and
experiment with it. Thanks so much for your time and efforts.

  Hi Tammy,

Sorry to get back to you so late on this, but I found your message stuck away
in my bulk items folder and forgot to check it in the last couple of days.
Anyway, I regularly use Web Mail to check my e-mail through Yahoo, it is quite
simple once you set it up to your liking.

  For example...

My current sequence is as follows:

Please keep in mind that I have already set up everything I need to check my
e-mail quickly and to expedite not staying on my Internet Explorer window very
long.

Suffice it to say, I have set up my Yahoo log-in screen as a favourite, and
because it's the only link in my favourites menu with the letter Y, all I have
to do is hit the keystroke of alt+A to go to the favourites menu, then the
letter Y to go to the Yahoo log-in screen.

The link for that is usually mail.yahoo.com, and once there, you can add it
to your favourites, and do the following:

Hit the F key to go to the first form field. This will usually be the
username field.

Once you've established that it is the field you want, place a permanent
placemarker there by pressing the control+shift+K keystroke.

This will take you to a dialog box with the list of placemarkers already on
the page.

Since you haven't placed any, this list should be empty. Tab once to the add
button and press the spacebar, which will pop up a placemarker name dialog box.

You can either, choose to go with the name already there, or type in a new
name for it.

Now, Having done this, every time you go to the Yahoo log-in page and press
the letter K to go to the first place marker, you'll land on the username
field, at which point, you would go into the forms mode and enter the
appropriate information and hit enter.

Now that that's done, the following page will also need some work in order to
stream line any future e-mail checking through web mail.

So, in the following page after you've logged in, press the letter L until
Jaws says list of 5 items.

This is where the list of folders is.

By folders I mean the Inbox, Sent Items, Drafts and Bulk and Trash folders.

These are links that you use to go to the other web pages that contain your
e-mails.

This is also the list that will tell you how many unread e-mails you have in
each folder.

One thing you can do to streamline this process is place another permanent
placemarker on that list of 5 items, or on the inbox link, if you want to go
directly there, and use the placemarker to navigate the screen. This
completely negates the process of having to scroll through the hundreds of
links on the page.

Once you've seen how many unread e-mails are in each folder, if that is your
desired choice to do, hit enter on the folder, and the page with all the
e-mails you have will pop up.

After this, reading the list of e-mails and, subsequently, reading the
e-mails you want to read are easy, once you know the specific keys to press to
get you to where you want to go.

So, for argument sake, Let's say you see that there are 53 unread messages in
your inbox. Once the inbox link is highlighted, you press enter and the
resulting page will load up.

Once the page has completely loaded up, press the letter T for table, and
this will take you right to the top of the e-mail list.

In fact, once you press the letter T Jaws will take you directly to a
checkbox at the beginning of the list of e-mails in the folder.

Jaws will say something like checkbox not checked select all, blah, blah,
blah.

Anyway, this table starts off and lists the e-mail headers as follows:

  Sender:
Attachments: (If any, usually not spoken, or spoken as a blank column)
  Subject:
  Date:
  Size:

These are the columns in the table that lists the messages you have waiting
to be read. There are other columns that will sometimes show up, such as view
address book listing, or view contact details and other information, but in the
table column headers, like the attachment column, Jaws often speaks these
headers as blank columns. The only time Jaws will say that there's something
there is when you are going through the list of e-mails, and there's an
attachment or there are profiles you can view, in which case, the first row
won't show these

Why are people doing this??? The fix is an automatic update from MS.
 There
is no need to download programs to fix something that MS already has a
 patch
 for.

2007-03-02 Thread Patricia

Are you sure? Why would it be offered as fixes on this list's web site as
well as part of the windows update as a separate update?
I thought vista was the only os that had the automatic time zone built in..
