[JAWS-Users] Re: JFW on a network: Was: Jaws reading log-in screens

2007-03-22 Thread K Anderson
Thanks Andy. My Network Administrator confirmed what you appear to already
know. he said there is absolutely no way for anybody to set JFW up so that
it runs on start up. This greatly saddens me, but with a bit of
luck/patience I will learn to live with it. (smile) yes, you are definitely
right about my not being able to leave the system on all the time. (smile)
Oh well it's time to put that issue behind me and now cross my fingers that
they can figure out how to set things up so I can access the help files in
JFW. It's one of those things you take for granted until you don't have it.

Hi Katrina,

I am running JAWS on a network computer, but JAWS is only installed on my
computer. I think that the fact that JAWS is running on the network is the
problem. If JAWS is running on the network, you won't be able to access it
until you have accessed the network. The only thing that you can do other
than installing JAWS locally on your machine would be to just stay logged in
at all times, which will, of course, bring forth the wrath of your network
admin.

Hmmm. I have recently started using a new computer on a new network at
work. I'm not sure what the network is, but the OS is Windows XP Pro. The
system is running a network version of JFW 7.1 and IE 6. Seems every day I
encounter another problem. The thing that bothers me the most is that I can
not set JFW up to run on start up. I'm not even given that option under the
JFW Basic Settings. Perhaps the Network Administrator could access this
setting...I'll definitely ask. However, the Network Administrator tells me
that FS reports there is no remedy to the problem. Approximately 6-10
employees use JFW on this network, and only two of them can set JFW to run
on start up. My understanding is this is because they have JFW running from
a dongle (sp?) rather than from the "Jaws Network."

Another issue that bothers me is that I am not able to access "Help" in the
JFW application. The Network Administrator is supposed to be contacting FS
about this so hopefully they can figure it out. Any thoughts or suggestions
about using JFW on a network would be appreciated.

I think someone who has admin access will have to check the load before
startup option under basics in the options menu. I think that creates the
service. When I was doing an internship, they said JFW wouldn't speak the
login prompt, but it actually did, and that was a Novell one instead of the
usual one that ships with Windows.

Hi list,
I think this issue was mentioned on the list before, but forgot the
information on it. At work, They use a log-in screen to get into the system.
Jaws doesn't read this screen. I therefore have a not so fun time trying to
log in. I think I remember someone else on the list having a similar issue.
If I remember correctly, I think the solution was having Jaws run as a
service. Or was it the other way round i.e have Jaws run as an application?
Am I on the right track? If so, how do you choose how Jaws runs? If I am
wrong, is there a solution to my problem? I will be using Jaws Pro 8.0 at
work, on a desktop running Windows XP Pro.
Thanks a lot
Jason

You can do it one of 2 ways.
If you just want to change it on the fly, do an insert 2. That will cycle
between characters, word, none and bothe characters and word, but it will not
stay that way.
If you want it changed permanantly, while in Windows Live, do an insert f2.
Arrow down to configuration and press enter.
Do an alt s for settings.
Press enter on, user.
Tab to, typing echo and press your arrow key to characters and press enter.
Do a control s to save and alt f4.

[JAWS-Users] Deleted Folder In Outlook Question

2007-03-22 Thread Donnie Parrett

Many times I need to go to my deleted folder to look for something that I have
deleted. I used to
be able to hit the letter of the first name of the person that sent the email
and it would
automatically bring to the top of the list everyone's name that began with that
letter in
alphabetical order. For some reason it doesn't work like that any more. I
guess I have
accidentally changed a setting or something. Can someone please tell me how I
need to have my
settings in my deleted folder for this to happen again. I am using JAWS 7.0,
Windows XP and Outlook
2000.

[JAWS-Users] re: Jaws and Login Screens

2007-03-22 Thread Paul Bepey
Hi, Jason.
You need to get someone with local admin rites to login, you can then
tick the 'Start Jaws automatically box' under Basics, I think in the new
version of Jaws, you use the start-up wizard' option.
It may be worth asking if they will give you local admin permissions to
your machine as you will need it if you wish to use the Check for
updates option in Jaws.
Hope this helps,.

Many Thanks,
Paul Bepey.

[JAWS-Users] Re: JFW on a network: Was: Jaws reading log-in screens

2007-03-22 Thread Baracco, Andrew W
Hi Katrina,

I am running JAWS on a network computer, but JAWS is only installed on
my computer. I think that the fact that JAWS is running on the network
is the problem. If JAWS is running on the network, you won't be able to
access it until you have accessed the network. The only thing that you
can do other than installing JAWS locally on your machine would be to
just stay logged in at all times, which will, of course, bring forth the
wrath of your network admin.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JFW on a network: Was: Jaws reading log-in screens

Hmmm. I have recently started using a new computer on a new network at
work. I'm not sure what the network is, but the OS is Windows XP Pro.
The system is running a network version of JFW 7.1 and IE 6. Seems
every day I encounter another problem. The thing that bothers me the
most is that I can not set JFW up to run on start up. I'm not even
given that option under the JFW Basic Settings. Perhaps the Network
Administrator could access this setting...I'll definitely ask. However,
the Network Administrator tells me that FS reports there is no remedy to
the problem. Approximately 6-10 employees use JFW on this network, and
only two of them can set JFW to run on start up. My understanding is
this is because they have JFW running from a dongle (sp?) rather than
from the "Jaws Network."

Another issue that bothers me is that I am not able to access "Help" in
the JFW application. The Network Administrator is supposed to be
contacting FS about this so hopefully they can figure it out. Any
thoughts or suggestions about using JFW on a network would be
appreciated.

Katrina

I think someone who has admin access will have to check the load before
startup option under basics in the options menu. I think that creates
the service. When I was doing an internship, they said JFW wouldn't
speak the login prompt, but it actually did, and that was a Novell one
instead of the usual one that ships with Windows.

Hi list,
I think this issue was mentioned on the list before, but forgot
the information on it. At work, They use a log-in screen to get into the
system. Jaws doesn't read this screen. I therefore have a not so fun
time trying to log in. I think I remember someone else on the list
having a similar issue. If I remember correctly, I think the solution
was having Jaws run as a service. Or was it the other way round i.e have
Jaws run as an application? Am I on the right track? If so, how do you
choose how Jaws runs? If I am wrong, is there a solution to my problem?
I will be using Jaws Pro 8.0 at work, on a desktop running Windows XP
Pro.
Thanks a lot
Jason

Jaws 7 is better but still not great. JAWS works significantly better
with standard web content then flashy plug-in rich web sites.

You might want to see what happens if you uninstall or disable Flash
sometimes the content provider then will provide a more screen reader
friendly format sometimes they will just complain that you need a
plug-in.

Hi Donnie, Have the message of the person to whom you wish to write open and
do the following.
I just use ALT and the number 1 in the number row, twice quickly, which will
do a "Read Only". You then can use SHIFT DOWN ARROW to select that line and
finish with CONTROL C. Then open a new message, with, CONTROL N and paste
that in with CONTROL V. Once you have sent that message, you will revert to
the message from which you took the address. Just hit ESCAPE to go back to

Just hit ESCAPE to go back to
normal.
Hope that helps. Vicky

[JAWS-Users] reading the Lock Workstation screen was: Jaws reading log-in screens

2007-03-22 Thread Griffiths, Steve

My understanding is that this is another screen that will only read if JAWS is
set to start automatically. Is that how you have it?

[JAWS-Users] Re: starting a new list on googlegroups?

2007-03-22 Thread Jyotsna Kaki

Hi Tom,

I have personally created multiple Google groups and from personal
experience , Google groups is accessible. I believe you are referring
to Visual captcha when you talk about copying and pasting text.
Anyway, in case of Google groups, an alternative option is provided.
Which is audio captcha. There is a link around the edit box where you
are supposed to enter the text with the following label, "Listen and
type the numbers you hear". Click on this link and you will be taken
to a new window where the cursor will be placed in the edit box. This
is so that you can type the words in as they are read out. I do not
remember but I think you have to press a button/link 'play' on the new
window.

One thing to watch out for is that there will be two voices on the
audio captcha. One of the voices which will start talking first
(little bit earlier than the second voice) is background noise. You
will not be able to understand what this voice is saying. Then another
voice will start up which is much more clear and more understandable.
This is the voice which will give you the code you need to type in.
The voice gives a gap between tow letters/digits so that you can type
it in without missing it.

Please let me know if you have any trouble with any of the steps and I
will be more than happy to help you out. The audio captcha is very
helpful once you get used to it.

[JAWS-Users] JFW 8.0 & Outlook html e-mail

2007-03-22 Thread Chris

Hi Folks!

JFW 8.0 does not read many of my html incoming e-mails. I get
information on the e-mail's table format but only some of the text.
I've tried following with the configuration manager and verbosity for
outlook but nothing has helped. I'm sure I'm not the only one with
this problem. Any suggestions? thanks. chris in Minneapolis

[JAWS-Users] Re: help with jaws and macromedia flash

2007-03-22 Thread Terra Syslo

It's a site that has a slide presentation where i need to click to get each
slide to play. It is for an online work from home opportunity through
www.liveops.com the site is easy enough to navigate, but the training
modules use flash.

Jaws 7 is better but still not great. JAWS works significantly better with
standard web content then flashy plug-in rich web sites.

You might want to see what happens if you uninstall or disable Flash
sometimes the content provider then will provide a more screen reader
friendly format sometimes they will just complain that you need a plug-in.

Hi, I am trying to do an online certification for a company that uses a
flash presentation. There are buttons you need to click on to get the video
to continue. I am using jaws 5 and don't know how to get to the buttons. Is
there a way to do this? I also have a braille display, but it isn't showing
anything either.
