The answer is partly within your message.
If you have the problem with Eloquence, and not Sappi, then that would
indicate that
the problem is with the synthesizer, and not the soundcard, if both are
using the same soundcard.
I would go to:
www.freedomscientific.com
and look thru the technical bulletins to see if your particular problem has
been addressed.

The past couple weeks when using eloquence for Jaws, I get some static and
popping sounds: particularly when Jaws stops speaking. I tried switching to
sassy 5 and this is not happening there. Could this be an indication that
