[JAWS-Users] Re: jaws and thumb drives

2007-04-07 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
When this was first announced a number of months ago, I think I remember
someone at FS saying that you could run the dongle authorization and
Jaws on a thumb drive, but it would take up 2 USB slots. Someone else
indicated that dongles and some thumb drives can be daisy chained and it
would work on only 1 usb slot.

How would you daisy chain a thumb, or flash drive?
Both the drive and dongle only have one port, so no way to connect them

Hi Denny,
You can run a different version of Jaws from a flash drive,
it just doesn't work the same as the thumb drive version.
If you have a later version of Jaws that takes ILM authorization, you can
use a dongle to authorize since it will look for the dongle first.

Thanks Rick.
I know I have a dongle authorization for Jaws 4.5 and needed to obtain the
dongle version of Jaws version 4.5 in order for it to work correctly.
So in doing that, I assumed that you would need a dongle version for all
versions of Jaws.
It was more of a point of curiosity for me.

[JAWS-Users] Re: jaws and thumb drives

2007-04-04 Thread Denny Huff
Well, I only need it for a new machine I bought to do recording on. It
didn't have a floppy drive and I couldn't find my floppy disc to authorize
it anyway.
Plus, the software I use for recording is Sonar 3 and it only works with
Jaws 4.5 unless I would upgrade it, which would be several hundred to do so.
So my cheapest route was to get a dongle for Jaws 4.5.
So can a person get a dongle for Jaws 7.1 that will work with the Jaws thumb
drive?
Also, does one have to have a dongle to work with each different version of
Jaws?
In other words, if I got a dongle to authorize Jaws 8, would it also work
with Jaws 7.1?
Thanks,
Denny

send you a dongle authorization update.
My dongle is authorized thru version 8
It's a simple procedure, they will just e-mail you a file to update the
dongle.
It works much like flashing the bios.
You can only write to the dongle this way, otherwise it is read only.
Tip: whenever you upgrade your version of Jaws, always ask for dongle
authorization update.

Thanks,
Denny

[JAWS-Users] Re: jaws and thumb drives

2007-04-02 Thread Rick

Hi Sarah,
Here's exactly how it works.
If you have Jaws on a thumb drive, and you want to run it on another
computer that has never heard of Jaws,
here's what has to happen.
1. The video intercept has to be installed on the computer.
2. Authorization has to be installed on the computer.
There are several ways of authorizing Jaws, either ILM, or dongle.
If you have a dongle, that is the easiest way to authorize, but keep in mind
that the dongle drivers have to be installed.
If you authorize with ILM, that authorization can be removed.
So, the long and short of it is, that no matter how you plan to run Jaws on
another computer, something will have to be installed,
and then eventually un-installed.
HTH,
Richard Justice
