 Hi,

I believe there's something in advanced settings that will update
automatically every so often. To access this, go to the AVG user interface
from the context menu you went to before, then press alt t for tools and
 up
arrow and enter for advanced settings. You're now in some weird treeview
thing. Go down or press s until you here schedules and press right arrow
to expand it. Now select the schedule you want to edit, then tab and edit
the schedule. When done, click apply to save your settings and edit
 another
 schedule if you want.

I have a question and I'm not sure if anyone would have any ideas as to
how
I can resolve an issue I'm having.

At work, we use Lotus notes to send/receive emails. There is a
 webmail
version, which seems to also use lotus notes as well, by accessing the
mail servers, and the way you send mail is there's a toolbar at the
 top
 of
the page, that you have to use the Jaws cursor to find, and there you
 have
the reply, forward, New Memo etc., buttons.

The thing is, I can see the toolbar on my desktop computer at work,
 but
 I
can't see it on my laptop at home. Supposedly, the toolbar is there,
according to the IT guy who looked at my laptop.

Could someone tell me why it would display on my work computer and not
 the
one given to me to telecommute?

I'm using IE 6.0 on both machines, we are running the latest version
 of
jaws, so I'm not sure what's the issue.

 Does anyone have any ideas?

 Ginny

Re: [JAWS-Users] firefox 2.0 and problems with FF 3.0

2008-08-01 Thread Marco Zehe
Hi Chrissy,

unfortunately, because of the crashes you and others are seeing with
JAWS 7.10 and early versions of 8.0, I cannot recommend Firefox 3 unless
you're willing and able to get a paid upgrade to JAWS 8 or 9. The
problem is that Firefox 3 returns a valid answer to a certain query
where 2.0 did not, and JAWS 7.10 stumbles. Only the latest free update
of 8.0, build 8.0.2173, and JAWS 9, fix this problem.

Chrissy wrote:

Problem is FF3 cloeses every 2 to 3 clicks. It just quits all the time. So I
looked for my old copy of FF, deleted my old FF profile and did another one

Does FF3 only work for users able to afford the upgrade to jaws 9? seems

[JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder

2008-08-01 Thread Moderator
Here are the list guidelines, all members should read them carefully!
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The
purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader
Program.

So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what
software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better
with
scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be
requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we
all know
works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or
want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently.

Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact
instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It
creates
a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I
am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how
new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence
to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be
there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is
quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than
first.
So try it yourself first what ever it might happen to be. If you get stuck
then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current
dilemma.
Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if
there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with
JAWS
is perfectly fine.

The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and
Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of
Freedom
Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I suggest
you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly.

Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also
any news letters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be
posted
to the list prior to receiving moderator approval.

Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done
for your protection. The message list might state that there is an
attachment
but in fact Mailman does remove them.

When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive
in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply
delete
messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 200
subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here.

Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines,
then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions
that
are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not
receive an answer for a number of reasons.

Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the
footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. There you
will
find the group web address along with some other relevant information
pertaining to contacting the management team ETC. It is very frustrating to
read
a post asking for the group web address when the very next line states visit
the JAWS Users List home page and the next line after that is the URL.

Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you
may receive an email from the Mailman program asking you to reactivate your
account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and
follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after
receiving
a number of such messages then we will figure that you no longer wish to be
a member of the list and remove your email address.

The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with
flirting or other such inappropriate activities. this is not a high tech
swap shop
or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services
will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is
off
topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does
not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and members should
only
post in the following manner:

Using the TO: field with only one list address. The SUBJECT: field should be
short and to the point without including any member names.

The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message rules
to go by the To: field often times such rules get fowled up and in effect do
not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at
the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and
every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with

unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators. Lastly
please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to help
dying
kids, should ever be forwarded to the list.

No auto responders are to be used on

Although, I'd recommend using the development snapshots, as they're more up

I have a question and I'm not sure if anyone would have any ideas as
to
how
I can resolve an issue I'm having.

At work, we use Lotus notes to send/receive emails. There is a
 webmail
version, which seems to also use lotus notes as well, by accessing
 the
mail servers, and the way you send mail is there's a toolbar at the
 top
 of
the page, that you have to use the Jaws cursor to find, and there
 you
 have
the reply, forward, New Memo etc., buttons.

The thing is, I can see the toolbar on my desktop computer at work,
 but
 I
can't see it on my laptop at home. Supposedly, the toolbar is
 there,
according to the IT guy who looked at my laptop.

Could someone tell me why it would display on my work computer and
 not
 the
one given to me to telecommute?

I'm using IE 6.0 on both machines, we are running the latest
 version
 of
jaws, so I'm not sure what's the issue.

 Does anyone have any ideas?

Well I'm not sure really, because she didn't tell me, but not only that, but
jaws wouldn't talk much to me at all, and yet she managed to get it talking

it finished talking to me. So anyway, thanks to you, I got her installed ok,
but I couldn't get her to scan automatically, and also to automatically

 Hi,

NVDA supports firefox 3 apparently. you can get it from

 http://www.nvda-project.org

Although, I'd recommend using the development snapshots, as they're more
 up
to date, if not stable releases.

 Hi Chrissy,

unfortunately, because of the crashes you and others are seeing with
JAWS 7.10 and early versions of 8.0, I cannot recommend Firefox 3 unless
you're willing and able to get a paid upgrade to JAWS 8 or 9. The
problem is that Firefox 3 returns a valid answer to a certain query
where 2.0 did not, and JAWS 7.10 stumbles. Only the latest free update
of 8.0, build 8.0.2173, and JAWS 9, fix this problem.

 Marco

 Chrissy wrote:
Yes it works perfect, I am using it with 7.10 without problems.
On the other hand, I have tried instaaling firefox 3 twice now, because
everyone said it was great and I wanted to also try webvisum.
Problem is FF3 cloeses every 2 to 3 clicks. It just quits all the time.
 So I
looked for my old copy of FF, deleted my old FF profile and did another
 one
and it works again as before.
Does FF3 only work for users able to afford the upgrade to jaws 9? seems
that those folks are the ones mostly praising version 3.

Any info on solutions for my problems with 3 appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Ms outlook

2008-08-01 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Hi, Outlook has never been, and will never be, free. You either have to buy
it standalone or buy a version of Office that supports Outlook. If you meant
Outlook Express, then yes that's free as it comes with every version of
Windows since Windows 98. Hope this helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] NVDA

Now, Patti, really?
Such a question on a Jaws list!
This would be more appropriate on the blind-computing list.

Hey could some one tell me how to download NVDA to a thumb drive off list?

Thanks for the help
Patti

 Hi,

NVDA supports firefox 3 apparently. you can get it from

 http://www.nvda-project.org

Although, I'd recommend using the development snapshots, as they're more
 up
to date, if not stable releases.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] firefox 2.0 and problems with FF 3.0

 Hi Chrissy,

unfortunately, because of the crashes you and others are seeing with
JAWS 7.10 and early versions of 8.0, I cannot recommend Firefox 3 unless
you're willing and able to get a paid upgrade to JAWS 8 or 9. The
problem is that Firefox 3 returns a valid answer to a certain query
where 2.0 did not, and JAWS 7.10 stumbles. Only the latest free update
of 8.0, build 8.0.2173, and JAWS 9, fix this problem.

 Chrissy wrote:

[JAWS-Users] Navigating in Vista and Windows Explorer

2008-08-01 Thread Chris Feist
Hi. I must say, moving around in Vista's Windows Explorer is rather
confusing. I had some sighted help to get the layout to look a little more
like it did in XP, but navigating is still baffling. My question is general
at this point. Are there any tips or tutorials available for Windows
Explorer while in Vista for us JAWS users? A matter of fact, my question
goes for Vista as a whole. I looked on the Freedom Scientific Web site, but
I didn't locate any helpful documentation on Vista. although, I suppose I
may have been looking in the wrong place. Thanks for any help.

No it can not work with a 64 bit system. Eric stated back in January that 10
might possibly but he wasn't sure at that time. Also folks I understand that
a public beta for 10 might be out toward the end of this month. That's all I
know about it.
