[JAWS-Users] Jaws and Skype
Hi, Something has happened to Skype both on my Windows XP Home computer and on this Vista computer which I don't understand. I have selected hot keys and Alt-Pageup to answer, Alt-Pagedown to cancel. It doesn't work on either computer, I did select Save in that dialogue. I also set Extended Keyboard and Simplified Graphics in the View menu I think that was found. They don't work! Unlike in the old days when I hit enter on a contact I get into the Chat window I would as soon not have chat at all! The only way to initiate a call is to go to the call menu and it seems too that this is the only way to hang up a call. Is this the way it has to be or is there something else I need to do? The XP Home machine is using Jaws 7, the Vista is using Jaws 9. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Skype
Hi Dale, Have you enabled the shortcut keys in Skype's preferences? You have to do this before you can use those hotkeys to answer and hang up a call. I'm assuming you have the scripts for Skype, as you mentioned going into the keyboard manager to set that up, but just in case you didn't, you should. Like I said, go into the preferences, and make sure the hotkey use is on. I think it says something like use global hotkeys or something like that. [JAWS-Users] a frustrating video problem
Hello, all. I just recently purchased a VGA KFA 286GFE8HDFEXX 8600GT RT video card to replace an aling MSN 8500 GT video card in my computer system. For the most part, everything seems to be working reasonably well, but I am experiencing a couple of hopefully minor issues that I am really hoping that someone on this list might be able to assist me in resolving. First of all, the essencials regarding my system: Abit Quad GT motherboard Intel qx6700 processer running at 3.50 ghz 4 GB of Kingston 8500 memory Windows XP Media Center Edition with Service pack 3. Jaws For Windows 9.0 Professional Internet Explorer 7.0 AVG Free Edition Version 8.0 Windows Defender Nvidia drivers which came out in july of 2008 This problem was drawn to my attention a couple of days ago when I went to the NLS talking books site to pick out some new books. Instead of downloading like normal, I was presented with the information bar and had to navigate to that and tell it that it's OK to download the file; I've never had to do that with the nls site until now. I went to check if some advanced options in IE may have been changed somehow, only to discover that JFW no longer reads weather options are on or off; just the option itself. For example: disable script debugging; it says that, but not weather it's on or off. I was hoping that perhaps someone on this list may have some ideas with regards to what could be causing this problem, and how I might go about fixing it. I don't know for sure how many other programs are effected by this, but if I try to access help for either Internet Explorer or JFW, that doesn't seem to read as easily as it should. I have double and tripple checked to insure that I am using all recommended display settings for JFW, and so far as I can tell, Everything is as it should be in that respect. In fact, absolutely nothing changed after the video card was changed; apart from downloading the absolute newest nvidia drivers I could find, everything should be exactly as it was prior to the card change. I thought the problem was resolved after updating the nvidia drivers, but this morning when I turned on my system, I was once again unable to discern changes in on or off status for advanced options in internet explorer. Not even using the jaws cursor or insert uparrow reads the on or off status; it's as if it isn't even on the screen. Apart from help and internet explorer, all other software I've had occasion to use since the change in video card seems to be reading as expected, but I'd really like to resolve this problem so that I can determine what change may have been made that is making me have to click the information bar any time I wish to download a file. Thank you very much for your time, and I hope that everyone is having a really great day. Missy -- next part -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Skype
Hi Dale, The scripts add more functionality to the program, such as talking caller I.D. when someone calls you, letting you know who has signed in and out, the ability for you to use the instant messaging portion of the program, being able to browse the different tabs of the program, and various other things that you can do with Skype, but are too numerous to list here. While you can use the scripts that come readily installed with Jaws, the newer versions available from David's site do what I said above, and more, but again, these are luxuries that can be left alone if you don't use those particular features I've mentioned above. However, whether you download the scripts or not, you still do have to change that setting in the options/preferences to use global shortcut keys, otherwise the alt-page up and page down won't work for you when you answer and hang up a call, respectively. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Skype
Hi Rick, Not trying to be cheeky, but what if that swapping of personal information, such as a Skype name, leads to getting assistance with Jaws, would it then be on topic for the list? This is a serious question, and not meant as a joke. I would like to know that if someone is having problems with Jaws, and I feel I can best help them with the spoken word then with the written one, would it then be permissible to send the Skype name, which, by the way is not personal information, in my humblest of opinions, at that juncture, or would it still be off-limits for the list? I'm also speaking of offering assistance to those wishing it. For example, if I wrote that I was able to help people set up and install Winamp, and if they wanted that explanation, they could visit the Jaws user's page, which is what I usually tell people, on or off list, but is it permissible to say that they can feel free to ring me over Skype, if they want the personal assistance? Again, I am not trying to be cheeky, as this scenario has happened on a couple of the lists I help to run, and, in fact, one of my lists will feature a Skype tutorial, on a conference call over Skype, on how to upload and download files from web based file sharing sites like send space or You Send It. In any case, the above example is to illustrate that I would like some clarification here on this, and I think the list would also benefit from this clarification.
